  28. 2023 Update:  2022 Scale-model of Neighborhood in Minecraft

Introduction:

All castles in Inisfree are grouped in this neighborhood based on their architectural style; French castles, called chateaux, are grouped in an adjacent neighborhood, with German castles, called schlosser, are grouped in another, while all other European castles are placed in this one.  Each castle is an architectural clone of its form-sake in the Outlands, with the exception being that these buildings are indestructible.  In cases where the namesake/inspiration structure was not fully/technically a castle, we have placed it upon a paved plateau and added a perimeter wall (always lower than the main structure, ensuring those inside still have excellent horizon views) in the style of a normal castle.

Dimensions & Layout:

This neighborhood is just over one third of a mile wide, and two miles long, giving it 19,514,880 square feet; 448 acres.  With 18 castles, averaged out, there would be 1,084,160 square feet (>24.8 acres) available per property; plenty of room even for these castles and all of their landscaping and more.  The smallest castles here only take up a ~198′ x 198′ area, though; 39,204 square feet (.9 acres).

Stormwind, almost its own town, is our largest castle replica.  It includes multiple ship docks (only as part of a large pond / small lake here in Inisfree, not connected to a bay or ocean), guild sections (town districts), spires (tall central town-section turrets), basements (not just for its prison/s), and moats (both external/normal, plus internal ones; around multiple sides of each town-section).  Its total ‘footprint’ (plot) is ~1,500′ x 1,500′; 2,250,000 square feet (>51.6 acres).

All of our castles are separated by nearly 200′ of forest as their shared collective of greenbelts.

The borders of this neighborhood are:

Access:

All castles are connected not by our standard white-and-gold highways-and-streets system/surfaces, but old-fashioned / medieval-style hardpacked dirt trails and cobblestone roads.  This is to keep with the overall ‘look and feel’ of this timeless/fairytale countryside neighborhood.

*Drivable vehicles can still use these routes to and from each castle, though it is recommended they employ their built-in repulsines to hover, as the dirt spans can get muddy during and after rains.

Special Features:

A few castles previously found only in fiction, such as popular video games, are also found here.  Hyrule Castle of Zelda is one example, as was Aedius Castle of Morrowind*, and Stormwind Castle of WoW.

Not Included:

Unlike some of the namesakes of the following, castles in Inisfree do not include cannons, cannonballs, or other medieval weapons.  Stands holding up suits of armor for knights are included whenever they were present in a namesake, though they do not hold weapons of any kind.  Even if a display-case showing some small weapons was present in an Outlands castle turned into a museum or tourist attraction, those weapons are not present in our copy/version of the structure here.

(We are not against weapons, knights, or defending one’s self.  We have many weapons and weapons training in Inisfree.  We simply prefer to keep each of these castles, which we make available as residences for our family members and distinguished allies, more of a peaceful and relaxing place.)

Castles Directory:

(The following numbers are just to count these castles; they are not their addresses.  For their addresses, see one of the map images below.)

  1. Anastasia’s Castle of northwestern Russia (~8×8 map-pixels area allotted) *technically not a castle; Alexander’s Palace
  2. Balmoral Castle (Scotland Royals) (~12×12 map-pixels area allotted)
  3. Beauty & The Beast’s Castle of France (~3×3 map-pixels area allotted)
  4. Buckingham Palace of England (~14×14 map-pixels area allotted) *technically not a castle
  5. Buda Castle of Hungary (~11×11 map-pixels area allotted)
  6. Castle Howard of Yorkshire (~13×13 map-pixels area allotted) *also somewhat more of a palace
  7. Cinderella’s Castle – Disney World, Florida (~3×3 map-pixels area allotted)
  8. Edinburgh Castle of Scotland (~14×14 map-pixels area allotted)
  9. Herod’s Temple of Israel (~15×15 map-pixels area allotted) –*with an Ark of the Covenant replica (non-functional; just for show) in its innermost chamber
  10. Highclere Castle of the U.K. (~5×5 map-pixels area allotted)
  11. Hogwarts School (from the movies, not the Universal Studios theme-park miniature) (~20×20 map-pixels area allotted)
  12. Hyrule Castle of Zelda (3×3 by itself, and ~9×9 with its walled market and the Temple of Time)
  13. Kronborg Castle of Denmark (~8×8 map-pixels area allotted) –*built upon, or part of, a star-fort
  14. Le Mont Saint Michel of France (~12×12 map-pixels area allotted)
  15. Peles Castle of Romania (~5×5 map-pixels area allotted)
  16. Sleeping Beauty Castle of Disneyland, California, or Paris (~3×3 map-pixels area allotted)
  17. Stormwind of World of Warcraft (~23×23 map-pixels area allotted) –*except without its docks/piers/bay
  18. Windsor Castle of Berkshire, England (~15×15 map-pixels area allotted)

All these castles are life-size, complete with hundreds of rooms, and often many streets and wards.  Most are several stories tall.  More may be added in the decades ahead.

*We decided not to build our copy/version of Castle Aedius due to its color scheme and internal/room dimensions.  We made the same decision about castle Aleppo (Syria), castle Hohensalzburg (Austria), castle Malbork (Poland), castle/fort Mehrangarh (India), castle Oheka (from the Great Gatsby, in New York –and more of a chateau or manor, anyway), castle Prague (Czech Republic), and castle Spis (Slovakia).

Population Over Time:

~100 people can be comfortably housed in most of our castles here.  The exceptions are Hogwarts (which can make room for up to several thousand students at a time; a normal college campus), and Stormwind (which is said to have once sheltered ~200,000 citizens –which could be in a grid of ~447 x 447 individuals)*.

Roughly 10 more people made this neighborhood their home (or at least their 2nd/vacation home) every ~year from 2013 to 23000 A.D..

  1. 2013:  the first ~9-10 guests or residents here
  2. 2022:  ~99th guest/resident living in this neighborhood
  3. ~23000 A.D. and beyond:  ~208,600 at capacity

*Stormwind has such a larger capacity because of several structure elements;

  • multiple basements
  • wider turrets and overall building sizes/dimensions
  • taller towers; more floors per tower/building
  • motel/hotel rooms and/or living-quarters over almost every store/shop along its canals/sidewalks
  • With ~half of its 1,500′ x 1,500′ area to work with (occupied by habitable structures), it has ~1,125,000 square feet at ground-level, and perhaps just as many at least on its first/lowest upper floor/s, as well as on its first/uppermost basement/s; 200,000 people would each have ~1/4 of a studio-sized apartment’s worth of space (a 10′ x 10′ room, as opposed to the modern 20′ x 20′ standard for studio-apartments) if most of Stormwind’s buildings intended for mass-occupancy were ~17 stories (~3 underground + ~12 above, making them stand (from ground/sidewalk-level) 120′ tall, which many of them appear to when walking through this area/community in the game).

2023 Update:  Given the name similarity, obviously Auz and Pele were excited when it occurred to them they should fuck here to even-better sex-christen/supercharge it.  They have since returned many times, christening and re-christening every room and corner.  This is Inisfree.  This is The (and Their) Way.  Amen.

Stormwind:

This castle-copy in Inisfree is where High King Auz will be having group ‘christenings’ with his wives such as Azshara, Garona, Jaina, Qiturah, Sylvanas (and her two triplet -sisters), Valeera, etc.; all those who originated in the time when the first Stormwind was built.  Yes, all of them will be eagerly meeting up here many times, for many activities.  This is Inisfree.

Images in this following album show how much space this castle takes up in this neighborhood of castles.  These are screenshots from the scale-model (1:46 scale), thus why each of the six sections/districts of Stormwind are represented by a single Minecraft block.
