Preface:

All of the areas in Inisfree with plants are landscaped, growing under controlled conditions, and have aphrodisiacs, colorful plants, and fragrant ones (a.k.a. aromatics), all of which are non-invasive.  However, the term ‘landscaping’, when used colloquially, refers to the personal gardens, large flower pots doubling as traffic filters (allowing pedestrian while preventing vehicular), and normal-sized front and backyards, as well as the lawns designed for public viewing, such as in parks, and the rooftop farms and gardens.  Flora across our city is typically categorized by size, and kept in areas with distinct borders, evident in the size of the plant-life they contain.  Here are the basics:

  • Landscaping:  a no-canopy area; shortest plants, such as those commonly found in gardens, meadows, yards, and the like, always with direct sunlight, and no ‘smart-plants’ (plants in no-canopy areas do not respond to passersby)
  • Biolume:  a sometimes-canopy area; shorter plants, often with direct sunlight, and which glow and change various colors, especially evident in low light and nighttime
  • Forests:  ‘greenbelts’ which are single-canopy; regular-sized plants, such as small to average-height trees
  • Swamp:  the double-canopy of a jungle; taller and thicker plants, including house-sized trees and vines
  • The Ferngully Crater (FAU):  the true-rainforest’s triple-canopy; giants including trees several stories tall and taller, mushrooms big enough to function as group umbrellas, and flowers you can use as chairs

Biolume Specifics:

Short for ‘bioluminescence’ or ‘bioluminescent’, these areas of Inisfree include internally-lit flowers, mushrooms, shrubs, small vines, and even entire trees.

The area with the most biolume species is here, nestled around the outer edge of the crater-like ‘depression’ / terrain-bowl feature of the central mountain which is known/abbreviated as “the F.A.U.”.  It is considered a distinct/unique forest/greenbelt for obvious reasons.

This Biolume Forest contains hundreds of species of glowing flora and fungi, many of them larger than what you are likely to ever find in the Outlands of Earth; you will find trees hundreds of feet tall here, with glowing leaf undersides like the legendary first trees of the elves.  There are also mushrooms as tall as multi-story houses.  Some (also glowing) flowers are big enough to sit on/in.

The trails through this particular forest are easy to navigate, even traverse barefoot; they are not too muddy, and have no sharp pebbles on them.  Ice and snow patches may exist in a few always-shady places.  Tiny trickles of streams here and there keep things comfortably damp, but never fully wet or ever flooded.

Not everything here glows, of course; perhaps a third of the plant structures here do, so most of this place remains comfortably shady, with dappled sunlight through the single canopy during the days, and truly ‘magical’/romantic starlight through those same leaves openings at night.  The colorful glows of the glowing parts are slightly noticeable in that daylight, a little more-so in the shaded/shadowy areas, and totally apparent in the dark of night.  It is the same level of brightness and the kind of soothing, almost trance-inducing colors as those of lava-lamps.

Dimensions & Layout:

This forest in Inisfree is basically a ring-shaped area around the FAU.  It is hundreds of feet from its outer to inner tree-lines, and has an inner diameter of ~6,072′ (for the FAU crater) and an outer diameter of ~7,240′ (spanning the FAU crater plus the mound-like slanted border-terrain encircling it).  Its canopy-covered area is ~12,200,000 sq.ft. (280.07346189 acres, or  0.43761478421 square miles).

Its lowest point/portion is ~1,760′ (1/3 of a mile) above local (Inisfreean) ground-level.

Its highest point/portion is 5,280′ (1 mile) above local (Inisfreean) ground-level.
