Temple of Pluto

There is a lone structure standing in the middle of our underground’s longest cave.

Introduction:

Inisfree’s temple of and to Pluto is not for worship, nor necro-related practices.  No coffins, corpses, nor ‘raising of the dead’ are here.  Instead, it is a beautifully constructed reminder that the afterlife is actually a very pleasant place for many, and that Hell/Hades is not a place of torment or damnation.

History:

Pluto (Greek: Πλούτων, Ploutōn) was the ruler of the underworld in classical mythology. The earlier name for the god was Hades, which became more common as the name of the underworld itself. In ancient Greek religion and mythology, Pluto represents a more positive concept of the god who presides over the afterlife.

Dimensions & Layout:

This temple is comparable to those found at and around Rome; fluted pillars support an ornately-carved white-stone roof, with matching patios and foundation stones.  A ‘larger than life’ likeness of the god, Pluto, is found centered inside at ground-level, and is not unlike that of Abraham Lincoln in his own namesake memorial in D.C..  Holograms instead of statues line the inside of this temple, honoring the ethereal and intangible nature of people in ‘spirit’ form.  Paintings of the pre-Christianized river Styx, and its legendary boatman, depict normal-looking people politely ferrying those of this special dimension to and fro’, rather than just along a mandatory one-way route from shore to Hell.

  • overall form:  rectangular prism on concentric rectangular platforms (wraparound steps)
  • interior as large as most human/Outlands major sports stadiums
  • high ceiling (several stories above interior-floor level), like the cave/dark (in a good way) version of St. Peter’s Basilica
