Note from the Editor:

There is a fancy way of saying “businesses that recruit soldiers and other war-fighters… for the purposes of mostly-legal security-operations around the world”.  These are called “private military companies” (PMC), and it allows them to call their employees (who would otherwise be called mercenaries) “private military contractors”.  The work is the same; it is just as dangerous and morally-gray as it was in the service, and as it is for no-shit merc’s, but you get a steadier paycheck, and you don’t have to change your identity and hide from the three-letter agencies… as much.

I’d decided to try my hand at starting my own PMC.  Why not?  I’d taught and trained tens of thousands of these guys.  I’d deployed.  I’d gotten through hundreds of missions overseas, most of which were in the worst war-zones on the planet at the time.  I also had a high education, including a bit in business management, and had worked with project managers on multi-million-dollar projects on the state and national scales.

My PMC started off like most business ventures do; with a lot of research, discussions, and asking around for potentially-interested investors.  I gave it my all, spending every free moment on the thing, and even turning it into a full-time job all its own.  It wasn’t meant to be, but I learned a lot in the process, and even got to the point of scouting properties to put up a custom training-tower not unlike those used by SWAT and firefighters.

This almost-PMC was called… Schwarzdonner.  It would have operated in ways similar to, but a little more advanced than, Blackwater (a.k.a. Xe Services… and Academi).  It included some of my ‘operator’ inventions from Elite Team.

Poking Fun at Fake News:

Speaking of Blackwater, there was fake news about it, too; Blackwater was said to be helping out with providing security for executives and other key figures in hostile theaters overseas.  When you want to take the heat off the troops, such as elite units doing things non-elite types might question, you cook up stories about how those outside the service branches are doing things much more questionable.  Once enough attention is on them, you pretend to be taking measures to get them back in line –and their leaders, who are involved in this whole underhanded, “clandestine” process… start changing those businesses’ names.  (It makes them seem suspicious, which keeps the heat on them, while allowing them to carry on.)
