TNH Intermediate Hangars

These are now lined with multiple levels of catwalks along the storage walls.

Introduction:

The New Horizon‘s mid-ranged hangars are primary utilized for docking and decontaminating personal, corporate, commercial, and military shuttle-craft.  While the small hangars of TNH can handle fighter-jet-sized craft*, these larger hangars have room for a few dozen the size of private jets and small cargo planes.  Entourages are typically greeted and bid farewell from hangars of this intermediate size.

*Most of the human Space-fighters have individual hangars elsewhere on the carrier hull/exterior, and those mini-hangars are more accurately called garages, as each is designed to house and care for 1 fightercraft at a time.

Number & Locations:

TNH has 6 of these medium-sized hangars on each of its sides; 12 total.  Each side of the ship has a cluster of 4 of them that is 2 medium-hangars tall by 2 medium-hangars “long”.  The other 2 medium-sized hangars on either side of TNH are located near the rear (near the main engines/thrusters).  Their bay doors open out to the left or right side of TNH.

Dimensions:

Each medium-sized hangar of TNH is 14 stories tall; >140′.

They are ~200′ wide, and ~400′ deep (into the sides of TNH).

This gives each of TNH’s medium-sized hangars are floorspace of 80,000 square-feet, and a volume of 11,200,000 cubic-feet.

Personnel:

There are usually ~30 crew members working in each of these medium-sized hangars at any time.  Most are on/in the Spacecraft docked and anchored/tethered in here.

  • ~33 total: ~16/+ as pilots, copilots, other crew, and passengers (e.g. dropship pilot, copilot, mech pilot, and 1 squad = 16)
    ~3 in the “tower” (not including 1 ICV)
  • Red (ordnance, EOD): ~2
  • Orange ~1
  • Yellow ~1
  • Green ~2 (1 for internal beams, 1 for external)
  • Blue ~1
  • Purple ~2
  • Brown ~1
  • White ~1

Contents:

These hangars are typically for shuttles and similar-sized Spacecraft (anything the size of a bus, van, or wingless cargo-plane).  Dozens of them can line both sides of the floor of any medium-sized TNH hangar.  They (these hangars) are not big enough for the dropships TNH uses to transport its human-configured/sized BattleMechs.

Access:

Only TNH personnel (active-duty military, Inisfreeans, and contractors stationed aboard this ship) can enter these hangars, and only when they are assigned to work a shift in any of them.  This includes when they are tasked with deploying from one of these hangars, such as via piloting one of the dropships out of them.  All others require one of those approved personnel as their escort.
