Persephone is the second planet of the protostar Lux in the White Sun system. Discovered in 2040, S/2040(Lux)02 is closer to the border worlds than Sihnon or Londinium, and while considered a “civilized” planet by Alliance standards, is still home to a large slum population. Therefore, one could find both the pinnacle of high society and the depths of the criminal underworld amidst the planet’s famously tiered societal structure.
Badger’s base of operations is located here. Before joining the Serenity crew, Shepherd Book had been living on Persephone at the Southdown Abbey.
Simon and River Tam, Shepherd Book, and Lawrence Dobson were picked up here from the Eavesdown Docks.[3] The planet was also the site of a swordfighting duel between Malcolm Reynolds and Atherton Wing.[4]
Jayne Cobb and Temperance McCloud met at a dive bar on Persephone, when the former was a kid. Already making a name for himself as a mercenary in Eavesdown, Jayne agreed to do a job for her, needing the credits for his mother to cover medical bills for his sick brother, Matty.[5]

Hades is the lesser of the two moons of Persephone in the White Sun system. S/2176(Persephone)01 was discovered in 2176.
Hades’ thin, brittle crust makes it unsuitable for terraforming with current techniques. Hades opened to mining ventures in 2310.
In 2517, a group of Browncoat vigilantes brought Mal to Hades to be tried for treason against the Independent Planets during the War.[1]
