Murphy is a protostar in the Georgia system.

Discovered in 2020, P/2020(Georgia)01 is orbited by Hera, Aphrodite and Shadow.^[1]

Etymology:

Murphy comes from Merman, Mermaid, and mooring lines; the ropes used to tie a ship in to dock and pier (phonetically: “mu-ring”). Murphy also comes from Mu, which is short-hand or slang for Lemuria (LeMUria), the ancient Earth continent and kingdom that predated Atlantis and Egypt of the Gypsies and Djinn.

“Marine life” (phonetically: “Muh-reen”), aquamarine, and submarine also all stem from this root word and root-place, Lemuria. Concurrently, so does Marine Corps, and ‘every swinging dick in the field’ (the Marines).

Hera is the first planet of the protostar Murphy in the Georgia system. S/2041(Murphy)03 was discovered in 2041.

It is a largely agricultural world and being located midway between the Core and the outer planets on a major shipping lane, it is considered the food source for most of the system. Food is grown, processed and packaged on Hera, before being shipped offworld to supply the other planets.

Shadow is the third planet of the protostar Murphy in the Georgia system. S/2037(Murphy)02 was discovered in 2037.

A Border world, it was once said that “the prairies of Shadow stretched out so far under such a clear sky that a man could see from here to God’s plan.” Later, all that was left was charred and blackened rock. It was the home planet of Malcolm Reynolds.

Overview

Shadow was known for its grain farms and cattle ranches. The planet was almost entirely rural, with small towns dotting the countryside. While it had a few impressive towns, there were no actual cities. Its people were hard workers and independent-minded. Shadow was one of the first worlds to stand against the aggression of the Union of Allied Planets. Most of its young people volunteered to fight for Independence, including Tobias Finn, Jamie Adere and Malcolm Reynolds.

The aggressive bombing of Shadow during the war was meant to teach the Browncoats a lesson about the might of the Alliance. Instead, the bombing only hardened the resolve of those who fought and increased the Browncoats’ hatred of their enemy. Those few from Shadow who survived this difficult time lost loved ones, their lives forever changed.

By 2511 – after only 106 years of habitability – Shadow became a ghost planet. No one lived there; no one could.
