Beylix is the first planet of the protostar Penglai in the Kalidasa system. S/2040(Penglai)01 was discovered in 2040.
It is used as a smuggling rendezvous. Malcolm Reynolds‘ war buddy Monty was captured by the Alliance here during the Unification War.
Jayne Cobb and Temperance McCloud held up a bank here some time when they were partners-in-crime.

Newhall is the second planet of the protostar Penglai of the Kalidasa system. S/2040(Penglai)02 was discovered in 2040.
Overview
It is a newly terraformed planet with large oceans. Stands to reason that water is the planet’s primary commodity. Newhall’s people live on small island chains or on floating stations on the oceans.
Newhall’s water plants are always in need of workers, hence the Alliance’s generous incentives for settlers who move here. Terraforming new worlds requires a lot of fresh water, and Newhall has water to spare. Processing the water and preparing it for shipping isn’t an unproblematic job, though. The water needs to be collected, desalinated, purified, packaged, then loaded for transport.
Those of Newhall who don’t want to work the water plants can make a good living fishing. And there’s always the tourist centers, for those who like to swim and cavort – or those who want to tend to those who do.
A group of Alliance settlers from Bernadette that was bound for Newhall was attacked by Reavers, and never made the scheduled landing.

The Six Sigma Asteroid Swarm (formerly “Pacifica“) is the forming artificial asteroid belt of the protostar Penglai, in the Kalidasa system.
Discovered in 2042, S/2042(Penglai)04 was the fourth planet of the system, which was destroyed following a cataclysmic failed terraforming attempt, resulting in the creation of the Six Sigma Asteroid Swarm, A/2274(Kalidasa)k7f1y, in 2274.
Overview
Ecotopia, a terraforming company, was tasked with terraforming Pacifica, which had a surface area larger than existing terraforming technology would allow. Ecotopia assigned a team to find ways to reduce Pacifica’s crushing surface gravity. The team determined that a planet-sized gravity dampening field could aid in the gravity reduction process, though this was extremely experimental. During the rotation process (adjusting rotation to Earth standard and simulating seasonal change), it is speculated that the seismic activity became too much for the planet’s crust to withstand, resulting in the destruction of the planet, four of its five moons and the Ecotopia terraforming station.
This embarrassing incident resulted in the renaming of the (now) asteroid swarm by the Blue Sun PR division from “Pacifica” to “Six Sigma”, which has since stretched to fill the orbit of the original planet. It is estimated it will take 1,000 years before the swarm will become a fully-fledged asteroid belt.
Six Sigma is categorized as a Class III navigation hazard.

Lear is the sole surviving of the five moons of the planet-turned-asteroid swarm Six Sigma (formerly “Pacifica”) in the Kalidasa system. S/2207(Six Sigma)05 was discovered in 2207.
Overview
Originally designated S/2207(Pacifica)05, Lear was the fifth moon of the planet Pacifica before its destruction during a terraforming accident in 2274.
Despite clearing out most of the debris along its corridor around Penglai in the 200 years since Pacifica’s destruction, there are still substantial meteor showers that make its surface an unhealthy place to be. As a result, the inhabitants of the moon live sheltered beneath the moon’s surface.
