Introduction:
In the military, troops are sometimes tasked with brainstorming as part of planning near-future missions. They call those brainstorming sessions “Tactical Decision Games” (TDG). A TDG is just a typical abbreviation-laden military operation, and is the fancy way of saying they are going to ask and answer several “What if?” questions.
While designing Inisfree, we spent years running through untold numbers of TDGs, always asking the important “What if?” questions about all the features of our city-to-be. We imagined how very clever opponents might search for it, try to get through its borders and defenses, and what they might do if/while inside. Would they put Inisfree under siege, try and cut its power, throw everything in their arsenals at it –and, if so, how should we respond in each of those potential situations (and how should we prepare for them)?
Here are some of the most common “What if?” questions we asked, and our answers/solutions.
–
What if the power goes out somewhere in Inisfree, or all across the city?
- Water keeps running to/at all our houses and other buildings because it is supplied by gravity from our central mountain, keeping our canals fed by their tributaries, and our rivers, ponds, and lakes fed by those canals. Even our fountains work this way.
- Everyone has their own grid-independent power-generation/collection devices, as well as their own batteries; every home and office powers its own devices.
- Very few things in Inisfree require electricity to function; most are based on structural integrity, mechanical motion, aesthetics, or pleasant olfactory stimulation via their natural secretions/fragrance.
- Bioluminescent plants and guests (such as Fairies, and the irises of the eyes of our Inisfreean girls (ICVs)) can provide backup lighting/illumination.
- The E.M. “bumpers” around all our buildings (which prevent vehicles and aircraft from bumping/crashing into them) would still function, as they are based on a system that does not require an electrical power-supply.
- ICVs know how to fix everything in our city/realm, so no one has to wait on an electrician or other technician.
–
What if we are unable to grow enough/any food on our farmland?
- There are greenhouses/biodomes, underground grow-rooms (in our underground-silos network), and in-home farms, as well as rooftop-gardens, edible-lawns, food-forests, and other places were food-crops are grown, in every section/region of our city. Everyone has food growing within arm’s reach.
- Air-tight rations (similar to MREs, except much healthier and longer-lasting) are kept in our underground storage units.
- We have a vault of a vast variety of seeds, allowing us thousands of attempts to grow new generations of crops and other plants.
- Our allies have the ability to bring us food and other supplies within minutes.
- None of the ICVs require food for nourishment/sustenance.
–
What if there is no more bottled water available in our store/s?
- All our bodies of water are full of potable water; you can drink from any outdoor water source with confidence that it will refresh you and keep you feeling your best.
- We have a food-processing facility that can 3D-print or otherwise fashion bottles in a variety of ways, then fill them from our natural clean sources of water.
–
What if there are high winds, such as in a tornado or hurricane?
- Our perimeter-wall and mountain ranges work like mountains anywhere else in the world; they prevent the kind of vortexes that allow tornadoes to form or continue to/over/past them.
- We also have a next-generation version of a H.A.A.R.P. facility, meaning we can alter/steer the weather.
- ICVs (and their ships) can be deployed to function as mobile/mini H.A.A.R.P. facilities/devices, adjusting/removing/ending weather patterns/systems long before they get anywhere near us / our border/s.
–
What if there is an earthquake or ice-quake?
- Nothing can be shaken to the point of collapse in our realm, and this is because we, like those who designed NORAD’s spring/coil-mounted shipping-container buildings/modules, worked with architectural-engineers and related experts to ensure all our structures will self-stabilize during any ground-shaking.
- Energy from ‘quakes gets harnessed/harvested the same way we capture and put to use “green/clean energy” from other sources, such as foot-traffic or geothermal; we employ piezoelectric generators/nodes.
–
What if there is a (forest/any) fire?
- Not even our plants are flammable; nothing we build is.
- Our trees and other plants are carefully spaced based on fire-prevention landscaping principles; flames will not be able to leap between them, even if there are prevailing winds.
- Fire-suppression devices are designed to automatically turn on, using sound (predominantly, while sprinklers (water-based) and soil (dirt-powder) or even expanding (and later-vanishing) foam) to cancel-out any flames (which also prevents “grease fires” from being a possibility/concern).
- Books in our libraries are all printed on a material unlike paper; their pages (and covers) will not burn.
–
What if there is flooding in any of our plains/meadows/lowlands?
- Millions of automatic ballast-like devices can evacuate water down into isolated parts of our underground silos-and-tunnels network, and/or move that water outside our city (though it is generally best for us, at least from a tactical and energy-efficiency standpoint, to store/recycle that excess water).
- All structures are are either built atop slightly-raised areas of terrain (if not on actual hills, foothills, or mountain slopes), or underground beyond the reach of flood-waters.
- Every room in all of our structures also has drains capable of preventing any flooding within their respective rooms.
–
What if there is a plague?
- Because of the way we designed our realm and teach all who are approved to come here, disease is no longer possible for any of them/us. (Getting sick is not natural, and only corrupt human governments tried to brainwash their people into assuming sickness is/was normal/unavoidable.)
- Also, we have discovered that disease cannot be transmitted; there is no way for germs to infect other people. Everyone causes and is responsible for only his/her own health.
–
What if our protective “sky dome” is penetrated or otherwise stops working?
- Inisfree is not in one of Antarctica’s windy or coldest locations, so the weather will remain tolerable.
- Our tall city-wall blocks most wind from most of our surface terrain/structures.
- Every structure on our property is over a vast network of bunker-like facilities and levels which can be retreated to indefinitely.
–
What if the plumbing somewhere fails?
- Clogs are broken apart with a disposal-like device in every drain.
- Drains and pipes are all part of a ‘smart-network’ which monitors, cleans, and purges itself, capable of shutting off its own valves, flooding and purging them, injecting dissolving agents, etc.
- Any ICV can come perform all required plumber tasks as a manual backup to our automated system.
- Most residences, and all places of group activities and business, have multiple toilets and backup piping.
–
What if our waste-management / recycling system fails?
- BTBs are designed to naturally automatically process (convert) human (and humanoid) waste (fecal matter, etc.), so technically no one even has/needs to flush a normal toilet unless they just want to.
- If the BTBs stop working, everyone has a compost toilet and a septic tank to last them for months to years, at least.
- The recycle facility we designed naturally causes a small singularity at its center, and has a series of special filters and barriers around it that prevent anything except what is truly intended to be recycled from getting close to that singularity, resulting in a stable, safe, nonstop “black hole” of sorts that turns everything that touches it into new material we can use in our 3D-printing factories, or to recharge our perimeter’s “rainbow cannons”, or even repair/rebuild any part of our city.
- There is always miles upon miles of room (both laterally and vertically) to start the old-fashioned means of managing waste; landfills –and, of course, we can start landfills outside our wall/s, keeping them downwind and out of sight for Ages.
–
What if our airport/s can no longer direct/control its/their air traffic?
- Most of the aircraft and Spacecraft that have access to our airspace are living beings themselves; sometimes this means they are based on A.I., and sometimes they are something more, but whatever the case, they can always land, taxi, launch, and pilot themselves, coordinating with each other the same way a flock of birds, or a group of telepaths, could, would, and does.
- Aircraft and Spacecraft can also land on stretches of our spacious highway system, or, in cases where the given craft has VTOL capabilities, it can land just about anywhere else.
–
What if our perimeter defenses are breached?
- First of all, our extensive network of sensors would detect this immediately.
- Our Mass-Alert System (M.A.S.) would notify the proper nearby authorities.
- There are numerous concentric and overlapping features/systems of our city which keep us protected from all outside who might wish us harm/annoyance; if our Sentry Towers are passed, and our concentric hidden moats are crossed, we also have tank trenches, magnetic slide pits, a mile-tall wall that is thick enough to withstand any tidal wave or nuclear hit, the strongest gates in the world (and perhaps in all existence), our own army and armada, the means to provide for all our needs for eternity, and multiple connections to useful realms and allied empires.
- Inisfreean policewomen are also available in all areas, and each is capable of protecting herself and anyone nearby.
- Rooftop Carriers are always ready to provide close-in air-support within our airspace.
- Intruders can be subdued, captured, and deported in a variety of ways.
–
What if an intruder is in part of our underground network?
- All silos and the tunnels that connect them can be remote locked, hermetically sealed, and even set to evacuate their own atmospheres.
- Many sections of the catwalk-like floor-grating (walkways) down there can be remote unsecured, allowed to hinge-tilt so that whatever is on them will slide/fall off.
- Just like on our surface (land) and throughout our airspace, we have ICVs on patrols in such a coordinated way that they are always within visual range of another ICV on patrol.
–
What if someone tries to smuggle in drugs or other contraband?
- Again, our network of a great variety of sensors would detect this immediately.
- Contraband can be destroyed, recycled, or teleported away.
–
What if there is an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP)?
- Everything we build is made with materials, and in such a way (with EM-shielding/casing), that an EMP would not “fry” it.
- EMPs, fast though they are, are just as instantly detected by our network of sensors.
- Our “sky dome” can resist even the EMPs from nearby stars (so EMPs from human-made nuclear devices will do virtually nothing to it/us).
–
What if our Repulsines do not work as expected?
- Like one reported recovered extraterrestrial engine/reactor, our giant Repulsines are designed to instantly shut off if anything in them goes wrong.
- With several redundant Repulsines (and other classified means of keeping our city right where we want it to be, and/or on the trajectory we intend), it is likely not even the slightest rumbling/shaking would be noticed.
- Our Repulsines are buried deep underground, so even a nuclear-level accident in one of them would not escape to affect the surface (nor would any leaked mercury-fluid/solution).
–
What if the private network linking all our ICVs has a glitch or shuts down?
- Every ICV is a living backup of all that the ICVs should know in order to be able to do their jobs forever.
- ICVs can communicate very rapidly in a number of ways, such as by changing the colors of the irises of their eyes, or using hand-and-arm signals (such as American Sign Language (ASL)).
- The ICVs, and the city itself, all know how to bring their network back online; they are their own I.T. technicians.
–
What if an ICV “goes rogue”?
- This is almost impossible, and that is because of how we designed, built, and networked the ICVs; every fiber in their being is made such that they cannot even think of “going rogue”, and they aren’t even physically capable of damaging anything we intended to remain a permanent part of Inisfree.
- If ever the unlikeliest does somehow occur, there are what we call the “Blood-red Forces” which we can call on to help.
- There are also the Mandaloridays which can be powered on and unleashed until any “rogue agents” are brought back under reason and control.
- ICVs cannot be possessed, hacked into, or otherwise interfaced with, overridden, or commandeered; their minds (and the rest of their bodies) are made specifically to be impermeable to telepaths, hackers, demons, parasites, and anything else from the outside world.
- The Grid Mind can always remote “patch” (or power-down, and even “recall-teleport”) an ICV, should the need arise.
- Whatever the maker of the ICVs desires… is automatically their will, they having been designed and built to be living extensions of that will; if he notices one is doing something he doesn’t like, merely becoming aware of that fact will trigger the offending ICV to stop whatever she is doing.
–
What if someone is taken hostage outside Inisfree, with a demand for some of our classified information?
- We have classified ways of persuading hostage-takers to release their hostages, and many of them are noninvasive, nonviolent, and harmless.
- We can also trick most beings (of any species/world) into believing they have been given what they asked for, or even into forgetting what they wanted in the first place.
–
What if our perimeter gates stop aligning?
- Even if all our perimeter gates failed, getting stuck or otherwise becoming inoperable/impassable, again, there are ways around them; one can fly or teleport, for example.
- Our ICVs are strong enough to get these gates moving manually, and our city’s main computer can help put the gates “in neutral” (the same way a car can be put in neutral to make it easier to push).
–
What if one of our giant perimeter doors gets stuck open or closed?
- There are more than a dozen alternatives for accessing our realm through the perimeter wall for those who are on foot or in a vehicle.
- It is always possible to fly or portal/teleport around.
- We have ways of clearing any obstacles that may have gotten wedged in between surfaces that need to meet to form a closed seal.
- We also have teams of exceptionally-strong people who can help push or pull on parts of those doors to get them back into the proper orientation/alignment.
- A stuck door might allow flooding or debris into one of the outermost gate chambers, but that won’t make it into the city, as every gate is a sequence/series of five chambers, and they are all strong enough to withstand nuclear impacts.
–
What if nuclear winter occurs outside?
- Our artificial-lighting systems throughout the city can provide all the ultra-violet (UV) light our plants and guests may need.
- Inisfree does not rely on trade with any other realm/government.
- We can deploy our ships and personnel to clear the skies, heal the lands, and replant whatever may be needed.
–
What if there is a restless spirit or haunting?
- “Muon Slide-traps” have been developed and field-tested; we can “suck in” and contain such an energy-based being as long as is needed, releasing it somewhere else when the time is right.
- ICVs can perceive people “on the other side” (just as cats are said/alleged to), and can communicate with them as easily as one human to another human.
–
What if the continent or planet we are on gets destabilized or destroyed?
- Inisfree is designed to be able to move itself out of harm’s way within an instant.
- We can even deploy our ships to use/fire their “Life Star” beams (like the Death Star laser, except designed to heal/reform things instead of explode/destroy them) to stop damage, no matter how catastrophic it is, or is becoming.
–
What if Inisfree ends up somewhere where there are no visible stars one can navigate by?
- Ansible-based and collective-consciousness technology allows it to automatically and always sense the presence/location of all other Inisfreean and allied beings, forces, and worlds, and to move toward any of those “signatures” at will and with ease.
