Introduction:

Written as ‘SS SS’ (Shape-Shifting Sky-Scraper), and called ‘Quad S-es’ for short, these skyscrapers have individually rotating floors, resulting in their outer forms appearing to change shape like slowly spinning and twisting towers or giant snakes standing upright.  They are the same general height and width of many ‘normal’ skyscrapers, though.  A lot of what they contain/offer is the same, as well.

Count:

There are hundreds of skyscrapers in this area of Inisfree we refer to as our downtown.  Both the surface-side and underground portion of our downtown have hundreds of skyscrapers.  Most of them are what we call shapeshifting; they have floors that rotate independently of their building’s core (vertical column/center).

Estimate from the initial sketch and map:

70 per obtuse-triangular section (70 x 5) = 350
15 per acute-triangle section (15 x 5) = 75
50 in the center/pentagon
1 = WGI HQ Tower

476 skyscrapers on the surface side of Sotu (our downtown)

Now double all that for the under-dome, and you get 952 in total.

Based on the estimate/spacing from the scale-model in Minecraft, there are actually 505 on the surface, and 505 ‘mirrored’ below (in Sotu’s Under-concavity); 1,010.

*If you consider that there are additional buildings downtown which are not tall enough to be called skyscrapers, and which do not have rotating floors, Sotu has ~2,000 buildings in it (skyscrapers + high-rises and more).

All that being said, ~1/4 of Sotu’s skyscrapers have floors which rotate around their vertical central shaft/structure (where the building’s cluster of AIOWs is).  That means there are ~126 shapeshifting skyscrapers above this area’s ground-level, and ~126 shorter versions of them below; Inisfree has 252 shapeshifting/rotating skyscrapers.  They are all spread out as evenly as possible, resulting in each one being ‘surrounded’ on all sides by regular (non-shapeshifting/rotating) skyscrapers.

Amenities/Features:

Each shapeshifting-skyscraper includes:

  • aeroponic & hydroponic ‘edible gardens’
  • gyms
  • lounges
  • meditation areas
  • observation decks
  • offices
  • parking lots
  • party rooms
  • residences
  • restaurants
  • shops
  • swimming pools

Navigation:

The vast majority of the floors of these skyscrapers are identical and radially laid out, making navigation easy.  The tall, wide, central columns that provide the stability for these skyscrapers are unmoving, and there is only one per skyscraper, each one being equipped with multiple AIOWs.

To get to and from these buildings, take any Glowing Art Highway (G.A.H.) section that connects with/near them.  In some cases, the connecting G.A.H. section spirals up/down the outside (always just one-way; either up or down), either along the portion/sections of that skyscraper which do not rotate, or without connecting to that skyscraper except between the rotating levels/’faces’.  In other cases, the G.A.H. section will even go straight through one of the skyscraper’s non-shapeshifting/rotating levels/sections.

* You will see a number of yachts and sailboats casually traversing the waters of the Caribbean-colored moats that encircle and run between the tripod feet of many of the largest skyscrapers in this region of Inisfree.

Subterranean Partners:

Mirroring their location on the topside of Sotu, shape-shifting skyscrapers of equal dimensions and rotating floors designs are suspended from the gradually-domed ceiling of the Under Concavity; the cavernous enclosure situated exactly below the topside Sotu area.

Shifter-scrapers Directory:

There is a tall one of these special buildings in each of Sotu’s color-coded surface sections.  That makes five that are true skyscrapers, with the rest being spread out evenly throughout the downtown area, some hanging from the skyscraper-bridges connecting the taller towers within their own sections.  See what each of the biggest shape-shifting sky-scrapers (SSSS) in Inisfree look like:

  • Red SSSS (surface):  Triquetra Tower; triangular floors with concave sides (6-tall*)
  • Orange SSSS (surface):  Ellipsoid Tower; horizontal oval/elliptical floors (6-tall)
  • Yellow SSSS (surface):  Mediterranean Tower; Spanish-tile rooftops and stucco-like exteriors (6-tall)
  • Green SSSS (surface):  Helix Tower; floors that align to make the vertical extent of this tower look like DNA (6-tall)
  • Blue SSSS (surface) Fortress Tower; medieval-castle appearance (façade looks like stone/masonry, not steel), with conical turret roofs, many turrets shapeshifting too (6-tall)

(all occupied by Outlander business offices (where compatible people from outside Inisfree meet when in Inisfree to do/discuss their type of business), retail outlets (of individuals; all of Inisfree’s shops are in its mall), pent-house suites, etc.)

* “6-tall” is a reference to the scale-model in Minecraft; 6 Minecraft-blocks stacked = a skyscraper ~876′ tall; ~87 stories.

Even though the five gray sections are each ~twice as spacious as the five (red, orange, yellow, green, and blue) acute-triangle sections, the 126 shapeshifting-skyscrapers (other than the tallest skyscraper in each of those five (red, orange, yellow, green, and blue) sections) are evenly dispersed amongst the 11 sections of Sotu’s surface (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and five gray sections); 121/11 = 11 skyscrapers in each of those sections which have rotating floors.

Their ‘mirrored’ counterparts beneath Sotu’s surface continue that naming and numbering convention;

  • Red SSSS (subsurface):  Triquetra Ground-scraper; triangular floors with concave sides (6-tall)
  • Orange SSSS (subsurface):  Ellipsoid Ground-scraper; horizontal oval/elliptical floors (6-tall)

Additional Notes:

Residents and guests can reserve an entire floor, not just an apartment, and floor-owners/renters can pick the speed their floor rotates –within reason.  No one really ‘rents’, per se, in Inisfree, but we still use the term for those who reserve a floor for a time shorter than a long-term or permanent stay.  Come try it out for yourself; ‘renting’ here and adjusting the rotation-speed of your skyscraper floor!
