Intro:

This attraction of Inisfree is a bowl-shaped crater, just over half a mile in diameter at its rim, and houses a smaller crater as a bowl-pit offset from the center of its bottom.  In this inner crater, Inisfreean-borne girls practice their control of the wind (like Storm of the X-Men did), and pilots practice flying their Repulsine-craft (such as the Inisfreean Fighter-jets) around and through the twisters that result.  Off in the other direction, and up along the other side of the main crater’s rim, a snowy shoulder of the passing G.A.H. curves around to an alcove leading into the awning-covered entrance of military truck docking ports which connects further underground to the Overhang Base; the Inisfreean military base serving as both the center for Inisfreean cold weather operations training, and the guarded checkpoint for traffic moving down into the Main Womb.

Dimensions & Layout:

The main crater here is three quarters of a mile in diameter, while the smaller one near its center is just over one quarter of a mile in diameter; 1,386 feet across.  Together these craters, as a double-crater, create a bowl within a bowl, whose lowest point is one quarter of a mile below the surface of its parent region; the circular, snowy plateau which crowns Inisfree’s central mountain. Like a bowl, their sides are steep, and their centers smooth and flat.  Snow and ice does form in them a bit, but never builds up, and no water is retained in these craters, as the city’s silos process it all out.  At night, this whole crater glows as if coated in limestone; the effect of the overhead artificial moon refracting off the snowy slopes surrounding the visitors.

The Skyscraper:

One of the latest editions to Inisfree is the skyscraper built in the center of the innermost crater of this part of the Snow Dunes region. It is used to showcase the tornado-proof architecture of the Inisfreeans. Inisfreean girls practicing their telekinetic tornado control will guide tornadoes onto this structure and hold them there. When Inisfreean girls are not present at this crater, a tornado is often left in place around the skyscraper, hiding it from view and making it a great secret lovemaking spot for Inisfree’s elite.

Tornado Types Tested Here:

  • F1-F5
  • Dirt-based
  • Fire-spouts
  • Water-spouts
  • and converging combinations of all of the above

Practitioners of weather manipulation, such as with the hammer Mjolnir, find this bowl-shaped pit atop Inisfree’s central and largest mountain to be perfect for honing their elemental craft.  Whether you are just starting out and seeing what you can do, or leveling up to cause and direct actual tornadoes, this crater is the place for you.  Wizards and sorceresses, welcome.

2023 Update:  2022 Scale-model in Minecraft

2024 April/+:

  • The high-altitude (thin-atmosphere) conditions of this test-area tend to result in milder tornadoes, no matter how wide they are, though powerful people/tech’ can, of course, form and wield the more-common (more powerful) tornadoes.
  • While high-altitude / mountain-top tornadoes are thought to be rare, it may also just be that most people aren’t living atop mountains, so tornadoes up there might just be far less documented/noticed.
  • This crater’s bottom is ~3.5 miles (18,480′) above avg. global sea (oceans) level.  While that may seem too high up for a tornado to form, remember that they don’t form here without assistance/force, and they quickly naturally dissipate/end.  Also, tornadoes in the Outlands have been recorded atop ~14,000′ mountain peaks –and that’s just the ones in places where plenty of people were around to notice; there may be natural tornadoes at even taller summits around the world.
  • Most tornadoes naturally are 1,640′ to 4,921′ tall, so their tops here come nowhere near the underside of Cloud City II (which is 7,920′ above the top rim of this crater).
  • Most tornadoes naturally are ~400 yards diameter where they meet the ground, thus this 1,320-yard-diameter crater has plenty of room to practice forming them without any risk to people or structures in the rest of our realm.
  • The largest tornado humans recorded in modern times is El Reno, at 2.6 miles diameter.  We don’t form anything that big here, and there are numerous safety devices/systems in place to prevent one that big from accidentally forming.
  • ICVs, being a.k.a. Storm Troopers (when suited up) since they can wield the weather using suit-based next-gen’ HAARP technology, can rapidly take total control of any tornado up here, powering it down to nothing, if needed.
  • The GAH section that passes through one side of this crater is, like all things made by Inisfree (ICs), invincible.  It is also invisibly energy-shielded so no debris can fly toward the traffic, distracting/startling drivers/passengers.
  • Sightseeing here is allowed, so long as you are escorted by an ICV, all of whom know the perfect safe/comfortable distance for each type of person (newcomer vs. experienced/superhero, etc.).
  • study including tornado sizes and windspeed at different ranges from their centers
(image below from it, showing how wind-speed is highest along/near the wall of the tornado, and almost zero at its center)
