Angels are many things, and one of those is killers.  Alice is one of the finest, pun intended.

Appearance:

Alice has two appearances; the way she looks on Earth surrounded by mortals, and the way she looked on the Terrace. Most often, people see her on Earth, as she doesn’t often return to the Terrace these days. To most, she’s a rather small woman at 5’1” with dark brown hair and soft, pale skin. Her eyes are green and sharply alert at all times.

Her dress is often better than most; dresses, slacks, and nice shirts. Alice isn’t one to look scummy under any circumstances; she has a name to keep for herself! Her body is free of scars and odd marks, she has no tattoos, and only occasionally wears ear-rings to keep up with the day’s fashion expectations.

On the Terrace, her face remains the same but there are distinct differences. For one, her hair grows in length to past her waist; long, wavy, white hair with a subtle glow. The most distinct feature, however, is the vibrant white set of wings upon her back. They appear pure and untouched by other colors, and match the shade of her hair.  She defaults to this mode when she visits Inisfree, sensing it is Heaven on Earth; it is only right to go back to her true form there.

Personality:

Alice isn’t cold, but she really isn’t generally warm, either. She does have her odd affections for select people and creatures, but generally speaking she seems rather neutral on everyone. Alice has been always motivated by her creator and the tasks put forth to her. She is an angel of judgement, truth, and exorcism. She is often sent to deal with especially problematic demons, along with other angels who specialize in such tasks; they team up to defeat the worst.

Alice does, of course, have a bit of a soft side; she actually does really enjoy some humans; some of their ancestors were among one of the gods’ children, after all, and some of their descendants have still turned out mostly decent, all things considered (even though they weren’t supposed to breed, much less to the gross extent they have).  Alice can’t help but feel some attachment to them, as well, like a protective older sister would. Of course, not all siblings are good-natured, and she has no hesitation in dealing with them.

Alice has been living on Earth for over thirty years now, moving around as a human until 2014. In that time she’s learned to play the part and has some personal joys in her “human” life; she enjoys dancing, music, bars —the latter perhaps not the most angelic of activities, but everyone needs to let off steam now and again.

She has worked within LA for the past five years, all the while with the casual appearance of being just another human. Her career of choice is hospitality management —specifically with clubs. She’s helped run clubs on and off for years and now she’s the boss at a small club near San Diego. It’s a nice enough job, allowing her to hear a variety of things that can be useful when serving her maker.

Once you get Alice’s affection, she has a very maternal way about her. She isn’t easy to get close to, and it is a bit easier to get on her wrong side than the right.  Her good side is very loving, while her other side is very vindictive.  She is a killer who has been killing and exorcising for damn near a millennium, after all.

When it comes to demons, she doesn’t adore or make excuses for them, but unless told by the higher-ups about any demon that “your ass is grass”, she won’t go out of her way to do them in. Of course, if Alice sees a demon outright doing unspeakable things, she will intervene, but generally she keeps herself waiting for the larger projects that come down the line.

Abilities:

  • Angelic Weapons : Every angel has an angelic weapon that they may create whenever they need. Only one weapon is allowed at a time. Angelic weapons are incredibly powerful, and should be used with caution. Sword of Judgement Alice’s angelic weapon is a sword, silver in color with what appears to be—and is—a diamond in the hilt. The grip is wrapped in braided gold and silver. The weapon will only allow Alice to use it in moments where judgement has been agreed upon. Cases where the punishment for crimes or grievances is death, often have orders which come from higher up the chain of angelic command, but from time to time Alice and the sword make the call.
  • Magic Absorption : She is able to absorb magic attacks, but cannot use the magic against anyone; it goes in, is absorbed, and is gone.
  • Smite: Angels can use their divine powers to punish those who have wronged another. They can only smite (strike with a firm blow, not necessarily killing) someone that has killed someone, though. Smiting typically kills the person, but there have been some who have survived it. The angel is left weak for twenty four hours.
  • Improved Strength:  Angels created in the beginning are stronger than Superman; they can change worlds, and a single strike from one can wipe out a city in an instant, leaving the angel a little less energized, but still far stronger than the strongest humans.  Angels created millennia ago are less powerful, but still stronger than most humans, even on the given angel’s weakest days.  Angels created just centuries ago are the newest, thus needing more time to increase their energy and skills to that level; when weakened, they will be as a normal person for a while.
  • Improved Speed:  Younger angels can fly as fast as a jet, and run like a vampire.  Older angels can essentially warp Space-time, blurring away and appearing elsewhere in an instant.
  • Fast Healing:  Most wounds & illnesses only take seconds to heal, but do not result in antibodies useful to humans (though drinking angel blood in general will bestow that angelic line’s abilities partially on the consumer/s).
  • Immune to Disease
  • Immortal : Only able to be killed by decapitation, though angels can be turned to stone (and this is a curable condition for them, while nuking one is disintegration which counts as decapitation).
  • Stained Identification : Angels are able to tell if a person has killed someone by the bright white rings around the person’s pupils –and a good (wise/seasoned) angel will check to see if those killings were to stop evil beings, such as in self-defense, proactive or otherwise.
  • Flight : All angels can fly as long as they have their wings.
  • Speak Truth:  Alice is able to, with skin-to-skin contact, cause another creature to be unable to lie. Of course, this doesn’t force them to speak or force them to not twist words like Angels so often do on their own.
  • Exorcism:  Alice is the angel of exorcism, which means she has quite the knack for it. Her focus is mostly on demons, but she is capable of exorcising any sort of spirit. When it comes to demons, her exorcising ranges from pain that would push the demon toward leaving to death. Often it simply makes the demon feel the need to retreat to the Ossuary. Alice will use this in order to escort souls to their appropriate resting place.  *Greater demons (based on age) are more difficult to exorcise.

Weaknesses:

  • Demons are more likely to harm angels than the other races of Ataraxy. A fight against a demon will leave the angel in a very weakened state.
  • Angelic weapons are only able to be wielded by the angel, and many have a mind / will of their own. If the weapon doesn’t agree with its creator’s use of it, then it may turn on the angel. Along with this, angelic weapons can be corrupted by demonic influences.  It takes time and great intent, but it can be done.
  • Angels themselves can be corrupted. Without a belief in something, even just themselves, they are stricken of their abilities and wings, left as nothing more than mortal humans –albeit, very attractive ones.

History:

Angels are creations of an ancient maker, and Alice was one of those creations, but the soul that is Alice existed before she became an angel; it existed centuries ago as a ‘human’, and Alice the angel has no recollection of her past as a ‘human’. It’s probably for the best; she was a devout woman (the good way; to dance, sex, nudity, and healing; the pure and helpful way things were in the beginning) who stood against the evils of the world. She believed demons were around them. They were ‘wolves in sheep’s clothing’.

The ‘human’ her could see them; a twisting of the face; their unnatural thoughts betrayed them by manifesting in unnatural degradations of their form. She knew they stood against what was right and just in the world, so she set about killing them, outing them. For a while, she was able to do this… until she came across one she just couldn’t completely get. Tricky it was, in a position of political power, and Alice was branded a witch, a devil, and was killed at his hand.

She had been pure, a servant to good beings while in her ‘human’ life. Her soul was genuine, worthy of a gift (and, in a way, getting a break from ‘the beyond’, to be a human, was a gift itself –and a reward).  Memories were erased, but the pure soul was left updated to serve a new purpose. She was still a servant, but now she was her own weapon, and that sword she’d been granted was just a bonus. Initially she was no more than another angel, sent to protect all the good beings still dealing with the ruthless ones infiltrating the Earth.  She abided by what was expected –in a cold sort of way; she wasn’t loving toward the humans, she’d save the good ones, protect them, and return to the Terrace once able.

Alice continued on like this for several centuries before her abilities really became clear; she specialized in killing. She wasn’t overly benevolent, and she followed orders, just as any good solider should.  Her time on Earth had been minimal compared to the original generation of her kind, she preferring the freedom of the Terrace, but every time she did go back to Earth, her nature & specialization became more & more apparent; undeniable.

Alice was put on Earth; a placement, really. The first time, she was to travel as needed to where she was required, but otherwise she just lived, existing among the humans and supernaturals as if she was one of them. Initially, it was a struggle, Alice trying to understand humanity and all their odd emotions. It took a century, but by 1925, she grew to love some of them. They were like puppies in her eyes; they made mistakes, they struggled, but they were enduring in their own little way.

  • 1097:  created (unknown if this was as a human in a previous life, or in her first life as an angel)
  • 1097-1824:  grew up mostly on the Terrace
  • 1825:  put on Earth, and disliked humans for a century
  • 1925:  finally found some humans she could stand, even like; it took her almost a thousand years to like any

She moved around a lot, spending time in Europe during WWI and WWII, moving to where the real atrocities were happening when she was told, and dealt with it. By 1960, Alice moved to New York, where she lived and began to work in a variety of businesses, mostly within the entertainment industry. By the 1980s, Alice found herself in Chicago where she co-owned a popular club.

Of course, business was just fun. Her real work came on and off again; occasionally she’d hear nothing for a year, then be busy as could be, hunting demons and putting them in their place for months. She never questioned her orders; it wasn’t her place to wonder on the will of her chain of command. In 2000, Alice moved once more; to LA.  She regarded it as a warm place that was beautiful. She fell in love with the sea and the people.  It was so very different back then.

Perhaps it was that she got to kill those who caused problems, and had good luck meeting the people who behaved.  Somehow, she’d managed to live in the big human cities without poverty, infighting, or growing to hate everything.

Her role grew and changed there; champion of truth, successfully enforcing her god’s judgment, she felt her purpose had grown from a mere attack dog to something greater; judge, jury, and executioner. While Alice would still take orders from above, she would protect the beings on Earth from each other and from themselves.

January 1st, 2013:  The Rapture finally hit.  False religious figures had told everyone that not even the angels knew when it was coming, but the angels, the Mayans, and others had known, recording it as the first brief time immediately following the near-end of 2012; it was what some called The Shift.  Telling billions of people it could be at any time was just another attempt to keep them stressed both before and after.  Alice was among those who felt no surprise or stress at all, and merely sat back and watched, wondering if she would be called up to join in.

April 16th, 2014; the day the supernaturals ‘came out’.  This was another interesting day for Alice; she’d known of the supernatural, and understood why they were silent for so long. Humans weren’t fully predictable; their reactions had always been mixed, and often it was the loudest of their kind who were the ones that got what they wanted; the most emotional & attention-hungry would be the ones to stir their masses and decide the fate of this ‘supernaturals coming-out movement’. Alice herself didn’t feel fear; she felt a need to prepare to protect those who weren’t strong enough. Being so strong, quick to heal, and skilled at combat, now she had no fear of exposing what she was, though she didn’t relish the thought of it either.

Luckily enough, Alice never had to fully expose herself –on or after that day. She continued saving people when they needed it, and when orders came from above, and she was careful to keep her identity as an angel hidden. One poor soul she saved felt a debt, and the two of them came to an agreement; Alice would manage his club, co-owner of a place known as “Heaven and Hell”.  It was such a fitting place for an angel, and would allow her another easy way to keep her low profile.

Since 2014, Alice has helped run that club, and her killing life goes on.

2020 Update:

As with numerous others in post-Shift (rebuilt) San Francisco, Auz hadn’t had time to properly meet her during his last expedition there.  He’d learned of her, though, and seen what she looked like.  That was always enough to keep a woman on his mind.

Years later, she was on his mind again.  He reached out telepathically, having gained some experience contacting Angels (and other telepathically-capable) that way.  Alice reached back.

She was excited –and her sexy eyes lit up– when she heard from his own mouth that he, too, owned and managed a club.  Her jaw almost hit the floor when he added, “–and fifty-one of them.”  She had to know more.

When she learned he was a fellow pure-hearted, Angel-loving, trained-killer himself, that sealed the deal for her; she was smitten, and was wonderfully-direct in letting the amazing Earth-man know about it.  That night lasted into the first rays of sunlight several hours later.  They didn’t stop until they’d both passed out, midday.

Alice was on a plane to Inisfree with Auz later that week.  She checked out all its night-clubs.  She’ll be showing Auz “The Terrace” soon –and meeting the other Angels he’s met and befriended.  (This is the Dawn/Era/Age of Reunions, after all.)

2022 Update:

She’s getting married to Auz this year –and they’ll be having their ceremony in club Angels Allure!

He is now familiar with The Terrace, thanks to her.  She is now familiar with all the others Angels who have linked up in Inisfree, and he is familiar with the many others she has introduced him to.  They’ll both soon be familiar with the Angel realm even beyond The Terrace, too; Auz and Alice will be going, hand in hand, from time to time… into actual Heaven, the core that all stars share.
