Backstory:

Director Nick Fury was born ~1920, enlisted ~1940, served during WWII, then worked for the OSS (precursor to the CIA), then the CIA during the Korean War (1950s) and Vietnam War (1960s), and finally served as SHIELD’s second commander, a.k.a. its Public Director. He continued this work into his 60s and 70s (’til the ~1990s). Thanks to a regenerative substance he was given, he has lived longer than most humans would during his era and with his diet –without aging beyond the appearance of someone in their 40s.

“Phil” Coulson was an agent of SHIELD during Fury’s ‘winter’ years in the organization. After the Rapture, Phil was appointed as Fury’s replacement. Phil served as Director of SHIELD for half a decade; not very long, compared to Fury, but he made impressive changes and restorations during those years.

Claire Barton is the most recent Director of SHIELD; ever since ~2017, she has had the reins.

Claire’s Timeline:

1991: born
2008: hooks up with Auz briefly during college
2009: has a son by him, but never tells him; he had already disappeared across the continent
2011: begins working for SHIELD, followed by several years of promotions
2013: moved with other approved SHIELD staff to one of the Leviathan ships
2014: instrumental in re-establishing SHIELD for some of the rebuilt human cities
2017: chosen to be SHIELD’s next Director
2027: reconnects with Auz, then meets up with him
2028: introduces their son to him during a flight to Ushuaia (also meeting Amber ICV1 and Nyria on that plane)
2029: sees just the civilian spaceport of Inisfree before deciding to part on good terms (as the nature of the Inisfreeans was very new and unsettling to her (because she didn’t yet understand how people born their way were anything other than robots), especially since her son had taken a liking to Nyria while on their flight toward that city of theirs)

Claire and Auz will eventually get back together, as will their son and Nyria…

2030s Update:

Feeling bad for how she left the man who was the father of her son, without even giving him a chance to show her what he had built during all their years apart, she eventually reached back out to him. Respecting her reaction and newfound need for him, he was soon on a flight to reconnect with her once again, and the two made up and made love multiple times in her house back in the rebuilt States. She asked if it would be alright if her son reconnected with his daughter, Nyria, and he smiled, nodding; he agreed.

Nyria now dates their son whenever the two have time, and they have an understanding about what she is and can do for him (i.e. not having the ability to have children or ‘go steady’). The way they care about/for each other has helped Claire to see that what Auz built really is more than the kind of primitive robots Outlander-humans make; he created his own race, and raised them very well, the vibe they always give off being one of total compassion and empathy, at least toward people Auz truly loves –and Claire is definitely one of them. Eventually this will reassure Claire that trying out Inisfree one more time won’t make her feel as insecure or self-conscious as it had before; now she knows that the people there will really look forward to seeing her, and see her the way Auz does –as the beautiful and impressive woman she is.

Claire has plans to reconnect even further with Auz… on her desk at SHIELD headquarters.
