A comic soft-disclosing her made it seem like she might have died, but Blink is still with us today.

Life Summary from the TV Adaptation:
- Even she doesn’t know where she was born. (Yes, the material/comic indicates the Bahamas, but she wasn’t brought up with knowledge/details of that.)
- Raised in a foster home, she grew up as a fairly typical American girl, albeit one sheltered and hidden from the world; for her own good, as well as that of the rest of the mutants cared for by that place.
- Her powers manifested near the onset of puberty, and were terribly frightening for her; the first time they worked, she woke up in a pool of blood, and has been nervous about using them ever since. Always careful and conscientious, she only uses them when absolutely necessary.
- As she learned how to better control her gift, she started helping out those who’d been helping her. This led to some expected and unwanted attention from paranoid authorities, and she has since lived ‘on the run’.
- The first team she joined was an auxiliary to the X-Men, and their activities eventually led her to other countries, worlds, and even dimensions. Her powers continued to form, stabilize, and increase during their use across all those missions and realms, and she can now not only open portals to places she has seen, but also make throwable portals which look like short javelins; whatever they strike, they teleport. Additionally, she has become able to open portals between dimensions.
- Today, her work is still largely secret, and she is a member of a different team. Their goal is to repair what they consider to be ‘broken’ realities; dimensions with unusual levels of suffering, they work to stabilize.
- She went to Inisfree in the 2020s, and helped us study her ability, figuring out how it worked, and what else she might be able to do.

Details:
Phalanx Covenant
Blink was one of the many young mutants captured by the Phalanx to assimilate their powers. Blink was tense and panicky and frightened of her powers (having “woken up in a pool of blood” after her first use of them). Clarice could not properly control her powers, and apparently was unable to teleport anything in an intact form. Instead, any object or person caught in Blink’s teleportation field, also known as a “blink wave”, would be shredded.
She eventually used her abilities to “cut-up” Harvest, a Phalanx entity guarding her and her peers, but apparently was caught in her own teleportation field and died in the process. Because of her sacrifice, the remaining captives were set free and became the X-Men junior team Generation X.
Necrosha:
Recently, Blink was seen in the company of Selene. Instead of accidentally killing herself she transported herself to a different location and her mutant power allowed her to arrive intact. Harvest, however, did not survive.
Blink joined the Inner Circle and with them, she fought against the X-Men, because she thought that they betrayed her, thanks to Selene’s mental manipulations.
After Selene was killed, Blink escaped from Necrosha. She traveled to Eastern Europe where Selene was born and tried to resurrect her, but she failed. The X-Men found her there and Dr. Strange used his magic to free Blink from Selene’s spell. Freed from the spell Clarice realized that she was a killer and remembered all her victims. Emma invited her to join the X-Men, but Blink refused and escaped.
Regenesis:
Blink saved people from many disasters which caused Cyclops to send the New Mutants to find her and bring her home. The team discovered that Blink was after a band who were being controlled by an extraterrestrial sentient ship that had been using them to generate chaos energy so it could call for help. The team stopped the band and threw the ship into space.
Dani Moonstar offered Blink a choice to come and join Cyclops’ X-Men in Utopia or Wolverine’s team at the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning. Blink initially chose Wolverine’s side and went to Westchester, but occasionally returned to Utopia as a “reservist” for the New Mutants.
Blink did not appear during the Avengers/X-Men conflict, and it is unknown if she took a side.

Powers and Abilities
Powers:
Warping Teleportation: Blink possesses the ability to generate teleportation warps, allowing her to displace people and objects within their own set area space. Her effective range is to the moon and back.
- Trans-spatial Displacement Bills: Also, Blink can manifest the energy for her portals in the form of short javelins, which causes their targets to teleport. She uses this power offensively and defensively, i.e. fully or partially teleporting whatever they are affected by away or re-directing incoming attacks back at the target. They also act as a warp beacon to translocate whatever they locked onto back to keyed positions.
Strength Level:
Blink possesses the normal human strength of a woman of her age, height, and build who engages in moderate regular exercise.

Clarice & Auz:
Our meeting didn’t start off any less than rocky, but it turned out very well.
“So… what?” she frowned at me, almost shaking her head from side to side as she started that sentence. “You just make people horny or seduce them or something? That’s your power?” Her tone was very frantic, interrogating; she was shaken from the past and didn’t know how to overcome such a thing.
I shook my head slightly, gently, my brow furrowed but not fully frowning; “No,” I softly told her; “I help them calm down. In a fully calmed state, people feel safe, free to be themselves, and the horniness is a natural form of interaction in that state; I reassure people enough for them to feel comfortable flirting and playing like they always wanted to.”
“I could portal you away, you know,” she tested me, half threatening.
“Yes, I’m sure you could.”
“And you’re not afraid of me for that?”
“Not really, no.”
“…Why not?” Still so alarmed, she asked it pointedly, demanding though still so on the defensive; her guard was up, but it was starting to feel like it wasn’t needed. Something else then occurred to her, ever suspicious of people after such a rough youth; “Wait. You’re just trying to smooth-talk me because you need my ability for something.” Another assumption; she was ‘stabbing in the dark’, unable to get her mental footing.
“…No,” I lightly smirked, regarding her, waiting for her to finish.
The poor girl kept her hands up, ready to portal either me or herself out of there if anything seemed off.
“I have my own way of teleporting, Clarice. I’m actually just hoping I can help you feel better someday. I don’t really want anything beyond that.”
“That’s bullshit!” she surprised herself more than me with that outburst, and her eyes became visibly watery; she was angry and tired of hearing people tell sweet lies, using them as lures for the most heartbreaking of traps.
“I’d actually like to go now, if you don’t mind. Is that alright with you?” I gave her the power; that was something people never expected after the Phase-1 bullshit of endless default fighting we were all forced to grow up with.
Her lips parted, her frown intensifying this time, but she didn’t know what to say; I was leaving her alone, just as she’d asked me to. She’d probably asked everyone for that. They’d all wanted, needed, or been suspicious of something; I didn’t fall into any of those categories.
“My offer stands,” I calmly said, taking a step back, my hands kept open and where she could see them; “if you ever need, or just want, a place to rest, or even stay, I have plenty of room, and you’re more than welcome to. I don’t ask for anything in trade. Come and go as you please. That is all.”
She pursed her lips, blinking away another wave of moisture blurring her vision, and the first two tears fell from her cheeks. She hated that they were showing, but that was how it was, and I’d already seen them, so there was no point trying to hide them.
I continued my slow retreat, giving her an understanding look, and only marveling at her beauty as a silent gentleman observes a sunset he can never reach.
“W—” she started to say something to me, the internal debate within her raging; dare she hope again? After so many betrayals and hells? Even if I was being honest, all that could lead to is more pain and loss… if she finally found something real, and lost it like all the rest. …Right?
“I’m going now, Clarice. It was nice meeting you.” I was sincere and respectful as ever, and she could sense it was real.
Proximity, especially with physical touch, but even with just my glances or voice, was enough to sway most people, she also knew. So then why was I removing myself from her, making sure I could have no effect? Did I really not want to manipulate the beautiful powerful girl?
My own portal opened behind me, and started to caress its way around my outline to the front, making me appear to fade away from the outside in, my sides turning transparent, and all that was behind me coming into view. That transparency slowly moved toward my center; I was almost gone.
“Wait! Auz, WAIT!” She dropped her hands, trembling, crying, more tears streaming down her face, her knees shaking, and she started to hurry to me, her fingers almost spasming, needing to be held. “Please!”
I stopped and reversed the graceful portal process, fully reappearing for her.
By that time, she was upon me, and slid her arms around under mine, praying that I would hug her back. “I’m sorry!” she moaned, sniffling, her head on my chest, turned to the side, voice as shaky as her fingers and knees, letting me feel her sorrow and need like a song resonating through my bones at that closest of ranges.
“I know. I believe you. It’s okay,” I rested my arms around her shoulders and back, hugging her close, helping her squeeze out all the bad.
“I know your effect is on me, but I’m okay with it… I want it. I choose it. …I choose you.” That took a lot of guts for her to say and really decide, and I let her feel my appreciation for that bravery in how I continued to stand there holding her.
–
We’d been in bed for a while, enjoying each other, her on bottom looking up at me, marveling at what we’d found. She’d been so worried at first about me cumming in her, but didn’t want me to wear a condom; we’d connected so well, and she wanted to build up her full trust for me.
“I changed my mind,” she looked to the side, dimples showing; a smirk, playful, hinting at something she knew I’d soon figure out.
I grinned, looking at her full lips, “Say it.”
She smiled, air escaping her nostrils; a quick and quiet, bashful and teased laugh, half frustrated with me, the other half of her loving the game. “I want you to cum in me,” she submitted, eyes moving back to mine, asking in how they moved, ‘Happy?’
After having her confirm that bravest of requests, we finished enjoying each other, and fell asleep all warmly tangled up together.
I kissed her forehead, and she kissed mine. That was the last thing I remember before the equally satisfying dreams.
–
“Mmm,” she purred, waking up on top of me, the sheets and blanket still draped over both of us, our body-heat just right.
I smiled, “Remembered where you are?”
“m-hmm,” she snuggled closer, her girly voice so cute and pleased, affectionate and light.
We snuggled and smiled for a long while, happy to be waking up as one, neither wanting to budge an inch, savoring each other’s body all we could.
“Want to stay on top?” I eventually asked her.
She nodded smoothly against my chest, “It makes me feel safe.”
“Okay,” I rumbled.
“Thank you,” she kissed my chest, her eyes still resting closed, basking in our union and combined warmth.
I hugged her to me, both my arms around her back and shoulders, and she melted for this, giving me all she was. My hands then slid around her lower back, pelvic dimples, and hips, moving in lazy paths, never predictable, always gently pressing her lower belly to mine.
“Mmmmm,” she purred, melting further; “you’re turning me on…”
“Want me to stop; so you can sleep in?”
“Don’t you dare,” she froze for a second, then giggling, squeezing me tight. “M-mm; don’t you dare.”
–
Returning to where I’d been staying out there in the latest part of the world she found herself in, I realized what she had come for.
She raised her arms for a hug, and I walked right up and gave her one, long and calm.
“It’s so good to be back with you,” she whispered, still pressing her head to my chest.
I started to lean back, and she raised her arms without thinking, then looking up into my eyes.
Helping her slide her shirt up and off, I saw she had chosen to not wear a bra, and she again put her arms around me, hugging her whole torso tight to mine, craving how calm and safe I always made her feel.
“Do you want this?” I asked in my smooth low voice, referring to my nature and ability; my effect on her.
Clarice nodded and raised her chin, our lips meeting, and we stood there kissing for a full minute… until her hands found what she wanted next.
I started to smile, looking down at what she was doing, then back into her eyes –which had never left mine.
“You never push your power on me,” she explained; “I know my feelings for you are my own; I feel safe because I am safe, not because of your influence on me.”
“I can go,” I offered, “if ever you decide you don’t like the effect.”
She gently shook her head. “Even when you use it, I still like how it makes me feel. It helps –a lot.” Her gaze recommitted. “I want this.”
We made love all night.
I’d never seen her so focused and present.
–
I’d always just used my portals for easier travel and emergencies. Clarice taught me how to play with them, finally making the previously functional things fun. We created a game out of it, and I told her how it reminded me of the video game simply called Portal.
She marveled and commented at how we both created the same type of opening, yet in such opposite ways; hers were made away from her body, while mine seemed to come from the very surface of my skin itself. Hers stayed open in front of her, while mine only opened around me, closing the moment the last of me was through. She could compress and throw hers like darts or spears, but I’d never thought of even trying that. She used hers from her own body’s energy supply, while mine drew on the power of the air, void, and universe itself. And while hers had primarily been used one at a time, I’d been learning how to create rapid sequences of them as a single action; this was the basis of what my people now called ‘warp-surfing’, essentially meandering through warped Space as if surfing on a new kind of wave.
I also had figured out how to make my portals semi-permeable, selective, even like one-way glass; I could choose what could pass through them, even to the point of light. This would have saved her so much trouble in the beginning; so many hostile cops and other authorities had tried to follow or shoot her through them. Accidents had happened. People got hurt. Some nearly died.
Teaching each other what we had naturally and instinctively done, and what we had figured out how to do and become specialized in, she made it possible for me to make it into a really entertaining game, and to do more than cast a series of portals for warp-surfing; I was learning how to open portals within other portals, and to even move them through each other, like she had done by surprise during her fatigue episode. In turn, I had given her the idea of trying to open them closer to her body, or from behind her, to work on modifying them so they weren’t so bright and two-way (less noticeable and accessible), and to create sequences and series of them, rather than just one.
We delighted in this time of ours; we’d both felt so called to develop the same ability, and in such distinct and interesting ways. And she knew my related technology could always help stabilize her power, as well as trace active and recent portals, helping her to find things she’d searched for for years. After she and I combined our portal abilities to play a new game of catch, as well as tag, jogging, freefall, and just reaching more secluded make-out points, we were bonded for life, inseparable –even though we could both always teleport away.
She even opened a portal behind me and yanked me backward through it, after which point we had fallen down onto her bed together, both of us laughing, loving what she had done.
“I’m sorry,” she laughed with me, already tangled up in our cuddle; “I wanted to surprise you.”
“I loved it, babe. Just don’t do that in my meetings,” I chuckled, taking her jawline and kissing her deeply.
Clarice was my playful little ‘portal bunny’ now, and we were deeply in love.
Our latest dates have been to the ancient portal sites; the megalithic stone ‘doorways’ of Peru and other remote places. We go there to see if either of our portal powers can reopen any of them, and to study them in hopes that we might learn something new and useful about ourselves or portals in general from them. Both of us have the growing feeling that one day… we will. (You can find mention of this project here.)
We’ve also happily found that when we are together, her portals become much more stable; my calming and reassuring effect on her cause them to be closer to perfect circles, opening and closing evenly, and lasting longer with less effort. Due to how amoebic and changing they were before, we reason that it may be possible to choose their shapes, going beyond just clean and messy circles. In other words, portals matching certain vehicle or doorway outlines, or even silhouettes and other complex shapes, may be within her capabilities.

Additional Notes:
By studying Blink’s different portal abilities in a laboratory setting, the Inisfreeans (ICVs) were able to increase their own portal technology; originally, ICVs and their ships were capable of opening portals for ‘warp-surfing’ across their own dimension and time-stream, but now they can just as easily connect with other times, dimensions, and time-streams of each dimension. Because of her, they can also open portals within portals. This will help them navigate The Webway, and detect who –or what— cast which type(s) of portals, and from where; they’ll become able to determine whether any given portal was naturally-occurring (such as from the site of a vortex or ancient ruin) or man-made (by a mutant, by a god, by a star-gate or ship, etc.).
She always wears the sexy loincloth onesie outfit seen in the comics featuring her –at least when around –and for– Auz. Sometimes she’ll cover it up under normal-looking Outlander/human outfits, but that is only to be inconspicuous when she is beyond the places where understanding people are. Because of this manner of dress she prefers and defaults to, Auz has started affectionately calling her “his Tinkerbell” at times.

2022 Update:
“Blink” has now been visiting Inisfree for four years. She and Auz have decided to marry each other in another one or two. Their relationship is going as strong as ever, and surely always will.
Even though he can always have the Grid Mind or one of his ships or ICVs open a portal for him, whenever she is around, he lets her do it instead. She loves that he trusts and lets her help him like that. She also, of course, loves that he never pressures her or even asks; the man doesn’t expect anything out of her, still, just as he assured her in their first encounter, that he just hopes she feels better now. She does.
In the years ahead, she’ll eventually hook up with other ‘superpowered’ allies of Inisfree such as Alanna Richards. When that happens, Blink will be able to open portals for entire nations, maybe even worlds. What will she choose to do when her ability becomes that goddess-level? Maybe she’ll be the one to help Inisfree with its relocations after that next expansion and mastery of her powers; maybe Inisfree won’t need to rely on its Uber Repulsines anymore at all.
She has noticed –with great relief– that it isn’t just her nerves that are always calmer when around Auz, the Inisfreeans, and their allies; her portals behave more controllably, too, as if the very fabric of spacetime, or the laws of physics, all also bow to his calming presence / will. Does everything work better and make sense around him? Apparently.
Every time she sees Auz, she makes sure to tuck her locks of hair back behind her ears so that he can see them; she has learned that he loves the way her ears are pointed, and he always asks permission to lean in and kiss them when she walks up to him.

Etymology:
This source says she came from the Bahamas; “Clarice Ferguson was born in Cartusia, Bahamas. Her purple skin complexion revealed her to be a mutant at birth. Her parents accepted this fact but feared their daughter would not be accepted by the local population. When Clarice was four, the Fergusons moved to Miami, Florida, in the United States. They hoped Miami would be home to a mutant population where an older Clarice would be able to socialize.”
This other source claims she came from Puerto Rico.
Her surname, however, suggests she is of Scottish descent; “FERGUSON Surname Meaning & Origin: Ferguson is a patronymic surname meaning “son of Fergus.” The given name Fergus, comes from Fearghas, derived from the Gaelic fear meaning “man,” and gus meaning “vigor.” FERGUSON is the 34th most common surname in Scotland.”
Thus it is more likely that some Scots had been living in the Bahamas, if she is, in fact, of that nationality.
Her first name is also not of Caribbean or Spanish origin; “the meaning of the name Clarice is: from the feminine form of the Latin adjective ‘clarus’ meaning bright or clear.”
In Ireland, her name means: “Irish: reduced Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Fearghuis or Ó Fearghasa ‘descendant of Fearghus’, a personal name composed of the elements fear ‘man’ + gus ‘vigor’, ‘force’, or possibly ‘choice’. This was the name of an early Irish mythological figure, a valiant warrior…”
In short, it translates to “man of force”, Ferguson then being “son of the man of force”.
Her brief ‘soft disclosure’ in the comics leaves a lot of unanswered questions; why was a family with a name of her/its background so far from Scotland, and why has she twice been portrayed/cast as an Asian in the movies?
From the way she was portrayed in the comics, her facial structure, ears, and manner of dress all point to the same thing her name does; she is a Fae, not truly a mutant, and perhaps a Changeling (meaning she may have been secretly traded during infancy, Fairies exchanging their daughter for the human one, which would explain why her parents did not have her color or power).
–
Comics:
Note how she is a fair-skinned Caucasoid redhead with clearly Irish and Fairy features.
–
Cartoon:
Once again, note her original/true features; facial structure, hair color, pigmentation, figure, etc..
–
Model:
–
Live:
Always-inappropriate shameful hollywood yellow-washed this character by casting a dark-skinned Asian to play a White woman, so please pardon these stills from that abomination of a TV show whorishly attempting to coax slightly higher ratings out of the masses.
Jamie Chung is gorgeous, and we love our hottie Asian allies, but still.
Let characters be what they were intended / originally-envisioned/-disclosed to be.
