Daisy Johnson, formerly known as Skye, is an Inhuman, a genius-level hacker and a S.H.I.E.L.D. operative. She was born to Calvin L. Johnson, a doctor working in China, and Jiaying, but was taken away when her mother was seemingly killed by HYDRA. Growing up an orphan, she adopted the name Skye and worked for the Rising Tide, putting her on S.H.I.E.L.D.’s radar. However, Phil Coulson recruited her into his team and appointed her as a consultant where she became a valued agent during the hunt for the Clairvoyant. After the events of the HYDRA Uprising, she joined the rest of her team in going off the grid. Skye was devastated when she learned that fellow agent Grant Ward was a HYDRA operative, and she joined the team in defeating the Centipede Projectand John Garrett.
When Phil Coulson became the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Skye went with him to begin rebuilding the organization. Working to stop HYDRA eventually led to Skye being reunited with her father. She discovered the alien-based origin of her mother’s lineage, and was exposed to the Terrigen Mist, granting her vibration manipulation abilities. The activation of her abilities alerted the attention of other Inhumans, and Skye was taken to Afterlife to help her better understand her powers. She was eventually reunited with her mother, and later played a large role in the conflict between the reunified S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Inhumans.
Assuming her birth name, Daisy Johnson became the first recruit and leader for the Secret Warriors. In that role, she began working with Alphonso Mackenzie to find new Inhumans and led the team in their battle against HYDRA. During a mission, Hive took control of Johnson’s mind and used her in his plan to conquer the world. For days, she acted as Hive’s right-hand woman, until the Inhuman army they were building fell into a trap which resulted in Lash releasing her from Hive’s control. The trauma of this combined with the heroic sacrifice of Lincoln Campbell led to Johnson leaving S.H.I.E.L.D. and becoming a vigilante known as Quake.
During this time, she came across the mystical vigilante known as Ghost Rider, with whom she created an alliance to fight criminal organizations. The two later helped S.H.I.E.L.D. to find the dangerous Darkhold before Lucy Bauer would use it. She rejoined S.H.I.E.L.D. after defeating Eli Morrow. Continuing fighting the Watchdogs and their leader Anton Ivanov, Johnson discovered that her S.H.I.E.L.D. colleagues were kidnapped by Holden Radcliffe and Aida, so she and Jemma Simmons entered the Framework in order to find them. They succeeded and they all returned to the real world – bar director Jeffrey Mace, who had died during a mission within the Framework – only to face the threat of the now living Aida. Johnson stopped Aida from using her for her ultimate goal
However, soon after their victory, the team was sent to the year 2091, when Earth had been destroyed and the surviving humans were enslaved by the Kree. Johnson was quickly trapped by the ruler of the Lighthouse, Kasius, and was forced to participate in the sale of Inhumans, because of the belief she was the one who had destroyed the planet. Only when Leo Fitz arrived to the place she was freed, but with a devicethat inactivated her powers. As the team found a way back to the present, Johnson refused to return due to her fear to cause the apocalypse, only to be forced to return by Coulson. As the team was working to prevent the Destruction of Earth, Johnson’s Inhuman Control Device was painfully removed by Fitz. With Coulson being missing after his capture by the new HYDRA leader, General Hale, Johnson assumed the role of S.H.I.E.L.D. leader in order to rescue him. Johnson saved Earth after she killed Glenn Talbot and later followed Mackenzie as S.H.I.E.L.D.’s new Director. Afterwards Johnson and the team dropped off Coulson and May in Tahiti so they could live what was left of Coulson’s life. They left for space in search of Fitz.

Biography
Early Life
Taken from Family
- “Found the senior agent up under a bridge. He managed to escape with a gunshot wound to the neck, but he bled out. He was still holding on to the 0-8-4. Poor thing was covered in blood. We thought she was dead too, but she was just asleep in a dead agent’s arms.”
“Wait, the baby? The girl was the 0-8-4?” - ―Richard Lumley and Phil Coulson
Born in a small Chinese village on the warm summer night of Saturday July 2, 1988 in the Hunan Province, Daisy Johnson was the daughter of a woman named Jiaying, who carried the genetic marker of the Inhumans and was gifted with longevity. The baby’s father, Calvin Johnson, an experienced medical practitioner, delivered her.[2]Shortly after Daisy’s birth, a group of HYDRA operatives raided the village and abducted the elders, including Jiaying. Jiaying was brought to Austria to the fortress of HYDRA General Werner Reinhardt. Reinhardt vivisected the woman and used her blood and organs to regain some of his youth, and left her remains to be found by the infant’s father,[3] driving him into a state of extreme rage. While Calvin butchered the HYDRA agents in search of his daughter, Daisy was found by a S.H.I.E.L.D. team sent in to investigate the massacre. Designating the infant as an 0-8-4, the team was quickly killed off by the girl’s father, prompting S.H.I.E.L.D. to send in a back-end team consisting of Richard Lumley, Linda Avery, and three other agents. They found the infant sleeping in the arms of the dead lead agent.[4][5]
After returning to the United States, the other members of the team started to be eliminated. To ensure her safety, the baby was dropped off by Avery at the Saint Agnes Orphanage, who gave her the name Mary Sue Poots,[6]and arrangements were made for her to be moved to different foster homes to keep her safe.[4] The girl’s father continued to search for his daughter, relentless in his search.
When she was nine, she stayed with a family called the Brodys, that Poots particularly wanted to like, but she was soon sent back to the orphanage.[7] Since she did not like her legal name, she gave herself the name Skye. When she grew up and became a computer expert, she deleted all official records on her “Mary Sue Poots” identity.[6]
Skye became obsessed with finding out the truth about her parents and eventually she ran away and joined the Rising Tide, a computer activist (or as Skye would say, “hacktivist”) group. Skye and the Rising Tide shared certain beliefs about the freedom and accessibility of information. It was through the Rising Tide, that Skye bonded and became involved with master hacker, Miles Lydon.
Skye spent two years living out of her van and using her skills to reveal classified data to the public while searching for information about her parents. However, in all of her searching, the only evidence she was able to find about them was a document with all of the pertinent data redacted by S.H.I.E.L.D. It was then that she came on to the idea of infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D.[8]
S.H.I.E.L.D.
The First Mission
- “S.H.I.E.L.D. covered up New Mexico. Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. Of course you’d be covering up Centipede. Holy no way. You don’t know what that is. Billions of dollars of equipment at your disposal, and I beat you with a laptop that I won in a bet?”
- ―Skye to Phil Coulson and Grant Ward
While investigating the rumors of something called “Centipede” in Los Angeles, Skye witnessed Michael Peterson‘s display of superpowers during an accident which would kill a normal human being. She posted video of Peterson online and left just enough evidence for S.H.I.E.L.D. to track her down. She met with Peterson at a local diner and advised him either to run, as she did not trust S.H.I.E.L.D.’s motivations, or to get ahead of the situation by using his abilities to become a super-hero.
However, after the meeting with Peterson, she was captured by S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents Phil Coulson and Grant Ward, who were seeking out Peterson for his own safety, and taken to the Bus for interrogation. After being questioned in the Cage of the Bus, Skye agreed to help them.
Becoming a Consultant
This section requires expansion |
- “Skye? That girl’s not qualified to be a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.”
“Agreed. That’s why I’ve invited her on as a consultant. S.H.I.E.L.D. does it all the time. Technically, Stark‘s a consultant.”
“And technically, Skye is a member of the Rising Tide. She hacked our RSA implementation–”
“Twice, from a laptop. Imagine what she’ll do with our resources.” - ―Grant Ward and Phil Coulson
After helping S.H.I.E.L.D subdue Peterson and get him the help he needed, she accepted an invitation to join Coulson’s Team,[9] while maintaining contact with Miles Lydon and Rising Tide.[10]
Infiltration into Ian Quinn’s Mansion
- “I’m not an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., so I could go in without breaking all these stupid rules.”
- ―Skye to Coulson’s Team
Realizing that S.H.I.E.L.D. wasn’t the monstrous behemoth she originally believed it to be, Skye realized that she wanted her place in S.H.I.E.L.D. and volunteered to go on an undercover mission in Malta. There she managed to get herself an invitation to a party hosted by billionaire Ian Quinn, who had kidnapped a S.H.I.E.L.D. scientist named Franklin Hall. Quinn caught Skye trying to steal documents from his office but Skye managed to persuade him that she planned on betraying S.H.I.E.L.D., this got her into Quinn’s personal office where Skye was able to activate a device to allow Fitz to disable the security system. Skye escaped and Coulson was forced to kill Hall when he tried to destroy the island.
After this mission Skye decided to commit herself to her training and the team, with teammate Grant Ward acting as her supervising officer, she started training with hand-to-hand combat and guns.[7]
Conflicting Loyalties
- “That’s why I learned to crack systems, why I joined the Rising Tide. To find any details I could about my parents. There’s nothing. No records. There’s no trace of them. My lifelong search has led to a single document, redacted.”
“By S.H.I.E.L.D..”
“No matter what you do, I’ll never stop looking.” - ―Skye and Phil Coulson
When a hack from Miles Lydon endangered the life of “Registered Gifted” man Chan Ho Yin, Phil Coulson‘s teamsought to bring him into custody. Tipped off by Skye, Lydon evaded capture and met up with Skye at his apartment in Austin, Texas. Coulson, fearing that Skye might turn, tasked Agent Melinda May to follow her. She confronted Skye and Lydon at his apartment and took them into custody.
While in custody, Skye tried to convince her team that Lydon was a good man who only believed in freedom of information. However, when Agent Grant Ward provided evidence that Lydon sold the information about Chan to mysterious buyers for one million dollars, she realized that he was not the man she thought he was.
Skye helped Ward extract Coulson and May when the operation to rescue Chan went bad. Afterward, Coulson gave Skye an ultimatum — come clean with him, or be left behind. Skye decided to tell Coulson the truth about her quest for her parents and agreed to the stipulation of wearing a Tracking Bracelet, one that keeps her from operating electronic equipment, in return for being allowed to stay with S.H.I.E.L.D. In return, Coulson agreed to find out what he could about Skye’s parents.[8]
The Mystery Deepens
- “Will you help me find out what really happened?”
“Dangerous waters. But, I can try.”
“Thank you.” - ―Phil Coulson and Melinda May
Soon after, during a visit to the Hub, Phil Coulson was as good as his word and looked up the original version of the file. Coulson was truthful when he told Skye that the document was not about her specifically, and that it was about the woman who dropped her off at the orphanage, an unnamed female S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Coulson apologized for the lack of specifics, but Skye was grateful for the information anyway.
However, Coulson was not being completely honest with Skye, as he indeed discovered more than he was willing to reveal to her until he knew more himself. The file itself created more questions than it answered, creating a larger mystery that Coulson wished to solve for Skye’s sake. To this end, Coulson recruited Melinda May to help uncover the truth.[11]
Kidnapping of Phil Coulson
- “I know I’m not some badass field agent like May or Ward, but this is what I do. You can’t kick me off this mission. Listen, I will do whatever you say. All this protocol crap doesn’t matter to me. All that matters to me is Coulson.”
- ―Skye to Victoria Hand
The team received a message that a criminal named Edison Po had been broken out of prison by Centipede Soldiers. As Coulson’s team got closer to learning the secrets behind the Centipede program, Mike Peterson was hired as a new member of the team. After one mission was unsuccessful, Peterson was contacted by Centipede’s recruiter that Peterson’s son Ace had been captured. In exchange they wanted Peterson. Skye and the team arrived at a meeting with Raina but it turned out Centipede wanted Coulson all along. They took Coulson prisoner and Peterson asked Skye to look after his son. Peterson ran to save Coulson but Centipede blew up the bridge, seemingly killing him.[12]
While Agent Victoria Hand was on board the Bus briefing Coulson’s Team and other S.H.I.E.L.D. agents on leads towards Phil Coulson‘s captors and plans to find him, Skye attempted to pursue a lead on the case by hacking the financial system in order to look into the finances of Vanchat. This caused a disruption to the briefing when her Tracking Bracelet locked down the Bus‘ computer systems. Hand’s course of action to remove her from the plane was backed by Melinda May, who claimed that she was of no use on the plane. The rest of the team helped her to avoid being sequestered by S.H.I.E.L.D. and provided her with a satellite phone that she would be able to use once.
While on the run from S.H.I.E.L.D., she tried on her own to hack the financials but was met with similar success to her efforts on the Bus, forcing her to use social engineering to gain access to the home of Lloyd Rathman, impersonate Agent May, and force Rathman and the security guards who came to investigate to use a computer for her to divine the information she sought. After discovering Centipede Project‘s Mojave Desert site on her own, she was able to inform the rest of the team that she was headed there.
After actively participating in his rescue, including the incapacitating of Raina with a right cross, Coulson finally saw fit to remove Skye’s Tracking Bracelet.[13]
The Truth Revealed
- “That’s the thing about Skye. What I told her shattered her world. Her lifelong search led to stories of murder and now it’s too difficult to continue. Her search is over. Her story ends here. But you know what she said?”
“Tell me.”
“She said no, her story started here. Her whole life she thought she wasn’t wanted, that she didn’t belong, that every family that took her in didn’t want her to stay, didn’t care. But all that time, it was S.H.I.E.L.D. protecting her, looking after her. That’s what she took away from the story. Not the family she’ll never have, but the one she’s always had. Here I am, telling her something that could destroy her faith in humanity, and somehow she manages to repair a little piece of mine.” - ―Phil Coulson and Melinda May
Soon after, while Skye and the rest of the team visited the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Science and Technology, Phil Coulson and Melinda May traveled to Mexico City, Mexico, where they tracked down former S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Richard Lumley, who had been involved with Skye’s case and fell off the grid soon after.
Lumley told Coulson the story of that long-ago op, revealing that Skye herself was the 0-8-4. Soon after returning home, the other agents involved in the op began to be eliminated until only he and Linda Avery remained. Avery took steps to hide Skye in the foster care system, making sure she would never be in one place for too long, before being murdered herself.
Coulson, tiring of secrets, revealed this to Skye but feared that learning of all of the lives lost on her behalf would shatter her spirit. However, in the end, Skye’s resilience surprised him. She was grateful that S.H.I.E.L.D. had protected her all of these years and now considered them to be the family that she never had.[4]
The Mysterious Weapon
- “Uh, Coulson? Should I set some extra place settings for dinner? Looks like you made some friends.”
“Skye. We’re coming in hot.” - ―Skye and Phil Coulson
After the mission at S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Science and Technology, the team was informed by John Garrettabout a mysterious weapon in Jamaica. The team went to the town of Negril and found the weapon. After some skirmish with the guards they managed to get the weapon on board the Bus and fly off. Once they examined the weapon, Skye was able to hack the weapon’s code and track its origin to the remote town of Limoux, France.[14]
Shot
- “Oh, no. Oh no! Oh God! Simmons! Get down here! Oh- oh God. Hang on. Just hang on, okay? Oh God. She’s been shot.”
- ―Phil Coulson
After the mission in France, the team found a lead to the whereabouts of the Clairvoyant through Ian Quinn. Tracking a mysterious packagethat Quinn acquired from Cybertek Technologies, the team went undercover and boarded the train transferring the package to Quinn’s care. However, the team was jeopardized by Luca Russo, and Cybertek sent operatives to neutralize the team. In the ensuing chaos, the group was separated, and only Skye and Leo Fitz were left to pursue Quinn.
The pair arrived at Quinn’s compound, where Skye proceeded inside alone and was shocked to find Michael Peterson, still alive but horribly scarred. She attempted to get Peterson to escape with her, but unknown to her, Peterson was being controlled by the Clairvoyant through a Backscatter X-Ray Eye Implant, and the package was actually a high-tech prosthetic leg that was subsequently attached on Peterson’s limb. Skye attempted to stop Quinn, but was shot twice in the stomach. Close to death, she crawled to the door and called for help, but was unable to call loud enough. She was eventually found by Phil Coulson and saved at the last minute by her team, who sustained her condition by placing her inside of a Hyperbaric Chamber.[15]
Shortly after being shot, the team took her to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Trauma Zentrum in Switzerland, where despite the doctors’ best efforts, her injuries were too severe and there was nothing more they could do other than keep her comfortable. Desperate, Coulson decided to take Skye to the location where he was brought back from the dead. After some research, the team located a secret facility known as The Guest House. With the help of Agent John Garrett, Grant Ward’s former S.O., the group managed to retrieve GH.325, a drug that seemingly regenerates damaged cells. Right after the drug was administrated, Coulson arrived warning not to give Skye the drug, as he discovered in the compound that the drug was made from the bodily fluids of a blue alien corpse hidden inside the base. After initial shock and struggle, Skye managed to recover thanks to the effects of the drug.[16]
Solving the Mystery
- “To hell with any protocols or any code I used to be bound by. We have a long list of questions that we need answers for, and we’re going to go after them ourselves.”
“Well, if the team‘s up for it–”
“No, no, listen to me. I trust them, but we need to protect them from this. Fury went to dangerous lengths to keep this under wraps – lied to me, lied to S.H.I.E.L.D.. This is a powerful secret, a secret men died for. Until we know why, we can’t share this with anyone. For their safety and ours.”
“Got it. So, what’ll be, A.C.? What do we go after first?”
“The person responsible for this. And we make him pay.” - ―Phil Coulson and Skye
During Skye’s recovery, the team joined forces with the Asgardian Sif in taking down Lorelei. After that situation had been dealt with, Coulson revealed to Skye the true nature of the drug, and the two decided to work together to find the secret behind it, without telling the rest of the team.[17]
Return of HYDRA
Becoming an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
- “Welcome to S.H.I.E.L.D., Skye.”
“I told them to come up.”
“I… I don’t know what to say. Thank you.”
“Don’t thank me. You’ve passed every required S.H.I.E.L.D. exam with flying colors.”
“For a Level 1 agent.” - ―Phil Coulson, Melinda May, Skye and Victoria Hand
The group soon resumed their hunt for the Clairvoyant, joining up with other significant S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. Skye was given the duty of splitting the team into different groups and sending them to find and analyze potential suspects for the Clairvoyant’s identity. To give her proper authorization for committing to the task, Skye was made a Clearance Level 1 S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.
The team eventually traced the Clairvoyant to Thomas Nash, whom Grant Ward murdered after he threatened Skye’s life. However, Skye and Phil Coulson suspected that Nash was not the Clairvoyant, and after analyzing the evidence given, they realized that the real Clairvoyant was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.
Before any further action could be taken, the Bus was suddenly hijacked by Agent Victoria Hand, who ordered her agents to take everyone on the team except for Coulson.[18]
The Exposure
- “It was sent from a S.H.I.E.L.D. source. It’s got to be some sort of activation signal, to HYDRA members within S.H.I.E.L.D.”
- ―Skye
As Victoria Hand directed the Bus to the Hub, the team intercepted an encrypted message that revealed HYDRA had infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D.Having been exposed, the HYDRA operatives began assaulting various S.H.I.E.L.D. outposts and picking off non-HYDRA loyalists. Agent Hand believed Phil Coulson and his team to be HYDRA sleeper agents, and brought them to the Hub for incarceration.
Battle at the Hub
- “I needed to keep things compartmentalized.”
“Like with May? I’m not an idiot. We live on the same plane together, for God’s sake.”
“Well, with her, I knew I could. With you… I didn’t want to risk it.”
“I was offering to talk, Ward, not to have sex with you.” - ―Grant Ward and Skye
Upon arriving at the Hub and believing Hand to be the Clairvoyant, Skye encrypted a hard drive so that Hand couldn’t access vital information that the team had collected over their various missions. Then the group split up in order to evade capture, with Skye and Grant Ward holding off various agents while the rest of the team attempted to rescue Jemma Simmons, who had been working at the Hub during the pursuit of the Clairvoyant. During their time together, Skye and Ward admitted their attractions to each other but Skye chose not to pursue any relationship.
Skye was later present when the HYDRA sleeper agents at the Hub were rounded up, and displayed shock at the revelation of Agent John Garrett being the Clairvoyant.[19]
Ward’s Betrayal
- “All this time, everything we’ve been through… why? How could you?”
“I was on a mission. It wasn’t personal.”
“It was… You did not just say that. “It wasn’t personal”?”
“Skye, listen to me…”
“God, you might actually believe that. That… that is the twisted logic that they teach you when you sign up to be a Nazi.” - ―Skye and Grant Ward
In the aftermath of the HYDRA Uprising, Phil Coulson was left in charge of the Hub and Skye gave him intel. When Colonel Glenn Talbot insisted on sending peacekeepers there, Skye was assigned to collecting the team’s badges and erasing their identities, so that Coulson’s Team could escape persecution. Eventually, they found Providence.[20]
While there, Skye learned from Agent Eric Koenig that the Fridge was raided by HYDRA, and, fearing for Grant Ward, who was sent to the Fridge to imprison John Garrett, Skye gave Ward the location of Providence. As half the team went to Portland to capture Blackout, Skye and Koenig discussed using NSA satellites to find the escapees. They brought Ward in their discussion, not knowing that he was a HYDRA sleeper agent and had helped free those escapees. Ward had come to Providence to retrieve the pass codes to the encrypted hard driveSkye handed him earlier. To keep his identity secret, Ward killed Koenig; however, Skye found his body in a closet. Realizing “Ward is HYDRA,” Skye sought Ward’s motive for being there so she boarded the Bus with him, only to learn he wanted her codes.[6]
Kidnapped by Deathlok
- “You should be thanking me, I saved your ass.”
“You didn’t save my ass. You turned it into a public spectacle.”
“You let her get one over on you. That’s exactly what Garrett was afraid of.” - ―Deathlok and Grant Ward
Skye tricked Ward into taking her to Ruthie’s Skillet in Los Angeles, claiming that the code was location-based. When she tried to escape him, she was captured by Deathlok. She confronted Ward on his betrayal and he told her that his feelings for her were real. When Deathlok used a Heart Stopper on Ward to solicit her cooperation, Skye acquiesced and revealed that the codes were altitude-based, causing the Bus to take off. Fortunately, Coulson came to her rescue and they used Lola to escape.[21]
The next morning, Coulson’s team made a plan to defeat Garrett and retrieve the Bus. After the meeting, Skye and Melinda May had a candid conversation about their feelings toward Grant Ward and how to focus them effectively. May also offered to be Skye’s new S.O. Eventually, Coulson’s team found the Barbershop Headquarters in Havana, Cuba that Garrett was using; when they entered, Skye and the others were surrounded by Centipede Soldiers and Kaminskyholding the Berserker Staff.[5]
Skye was able to access the computers in the headquarters to put a Trojan program for Garrett as her teammates battled the Centipede Soldiers and Kaminsky. Coulson’s team escaped as the building collapsed, burying their opponents.
Battle at Cybertek
- “I feel sorry for you, betraying the only people who gave you a chance at being a decent human being. Fitz was a hero because he still wanted to give you that chance after everything. But some people are just born evil, I guess.”
- ―Skye to Grant Ward
Garrett was found at the Cybertek Manufacturing Facility in New Mexico and, on the Jump Jet, Coulson gave instructions towards the battle at Cybertek.
Skye entered the Cybertek facility and went into the handlers’ control room, threatening that she had a bomb. She let Kyle Zeller know that she was in charge and called Garrett to let him know that Coulson was coming for him. Garrett bragged about ending Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons to her in response.
Ultimately, Skye found Mrs. Zeller for Kyle, freeing him from the incentive program that HYDRA was using to ensure cooperation. Then she found Ace Peterson, who was being held hostage to assure Deathlok‘s cooperation. With his son free, Deathlok killed Garrett. Skye approached Deathlok, asking him to join Coulson’s Team, but he declined.[22]
Agent Skye
The New Beginning
- “Sir, I need to get back out there and help May take him down.”
“No.”
“She’s my S.O. I’m a field agent now and I can handle myself.” - ―Skye and Phil Coulson
Skye went with Coulson’s team to the Playground and was reunited with Simmons, who survived Garrett’s kill order. When she asked Simmons about Fitz, she learned that he was alive. Then she met Billy Koenig.[22]
Skye was given the assignment of translating the Words of Creation written by John Garrett on the Bus. She used many avenues, including her contacts with Rising Tide, but after a month, she was not able to find any information.
Coulson tasked Melinda May, Antoine Triplett, and Skye to act as back-up for Isabelle Hartley, Idaho, and Lance Hunter who were attempting to buy information from a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent when they were attacked by Carl Creel, who stole the information on an 0-8-4 that they sought.
When Creel was identified as the assassin, Coulson sent Skye to see Grant Ward, now their prisoner in Vault D, who promised her that he would always be truthful with her. He told her how HYDRA communicated secretly to its agents, but before he could discuss her father, she returned him to isolation.
She was then sent on a two-pronged mission to obtain the Obeliskand a Quinjet. As Hartley, Idaho, and Hunter left the Government Storage Warehouse with the alien artifact to get Hartley medical attention, Skye and Triplett stole a Quinjet and used its cloaking technology to escape, while May departed on a motorcycle.[23]
After bringing the Quinjet to the Playground, Skye learned about the deaths of Idaho and Hartley. She was told by Coulson to pack Hartley’s possessions; Hunter approached and he and Skye had a talk about Hartley, her family, and his friendship with her.
Skye, May, Hunter and Triplett later went to Creel’s location to arrest him and retrieve the Obelisk. Hunter shot Skye and the others with an I.C.E.R. to pursue Creel himself.
Calvin Zabo told Raina that he needed Skye to explain the symbols on the Obelisk.[24]
Skye continued her training with May, who told her that killing was not an easy task. Lance Hunter and Alphonso Mackenzie later arrived and asked Skye if she had attended the S.H.I.E.L.D. academy, she told them she had not, which annoyed Hunter as he had made a bet with Mackenzie about the subject. Skye then talked with Ward about HYDRA’s recruitment policies towards gifted individuals. She learned that HYDRA could be very persuasive and that if the gifted refused, they would be crossed off.
She accompanied May and Hunter to Casablanca, Morocco to help Donnie Gill, who was on board the Maribel del Mar. However, they were too late to save him from HYDRA re-triggering his brainwashing program. Skye was forced to shoot Gill and took a shot at HYDRA agent Sunil Bakshi, who was saved by Simmons, in order to make sure that her cover in HYDRA was maintained.
When she returned from the battle, she went into Vault D to ask Grant Ward if he had been brainwashed into working for HYDRA. Ward told her that since he would always be honest with her, the truth was no. Suspicious of Ward’s motives, Skye questioned his honesty streak. Ward revealed that he wanted her to believe him when he said that he could lead her to her father. Skye quickly left the cell. [25]
Bonding with Others
- “Hey, at least you got away from your ex. The guy I had a crush on is now the psycho living in our basement.”
- ―Skye to Lance Hunter
On South Beach, Skye helped Hunter to steal a ticket from Bridget so that she could copy it and get Phil Coulson and Melinda May into a gala for the rebuilding of Santa Maria de las Flores, a church that housed a 500 year old painting with the Words of Creation inscribed on its back.
As the two worked on the mission, Skye and the others bonded by telling stories of their past romances and love interests. Skye admitted that she once had a crush on Grant Ward. Meanwhile, she did independent research into the painting and learned that it was 500 years old but the inscription was not, causing Coulson to realize that there was another who wrote it recently. [26]
Finding Her Father
- “I believe Garrett and I had a negative reaction to the alien DNA in our system. Maybe you didn’t because it was already there.”
“Yeah, right, like I’m an alien. Hold on, are you saying that I am an alien?” - ―Phil Coulson and Skye
HYDRA performed an experiment at a wedding where the effects of the Obelisk were partially duplicated. This got the attention of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the field agents approached Coulson for instruction. Skye saw the symbolsscribbled into Phil Coulson‘s desk and questioned him, to his disapproval.
As she was researching the symbols, Lance Hunter suggested to Skye that she consult Grant Ward. When she decided to take Hunter’s advice, the first thing Ward tried was getting on the topic of her father. Naturally, Skye assumed he was trying to manipulate her, believing that her parents had died years ago. However, she challenged him to name his source when he reiterated that he would never lie to her. When Ward told her that Raina was his source on information about her father, she refused to listen, believing that Raina played him. She then changed the subject, demanding to know what he knew about the symbols.[27] Ward identified them as the same symbols he saw on their mission in Belarus a year ago [28] and again when John Garrett started carving them himself after his infusion with GH.325.[22] Ward desperately hoped that she was not the one writing the symbols, stating that Garrett drew the symbols in any way he could and it slowly drove him insane, causing Skye to realize that the same thing was happening to Coulson.
Just as Skye confronted Coulson about his carvings and he revealed that she could be an alien, hence why she had not experienced the same thing, Raina called for a meeting. At La Comtesse Furieuse, Skye was with Melinda May listening. Raina then revealed that she had discovered Jemma Simmons undercover at HYDRA and threatened to blow her cover if Coulson did not hand over Skye. When asked why she wanted Skye, Raina said that wanted to bring her to meet her father. Though May insisted she was lying, Skye realized that Ward was telling the truth about Raina knowing her father. She heard Raina say that her father had been seeking her all her life and that she could escort her to him. When Coulson refused to bargain, Skye, assuming that his condition was affecting his judgment and fearing for Simmons’ life, attempted to go out and surrender herself, but May restrained her, insisting that Coulson had a plan to save her. After Raina’s plan failed, Skye snuck off to find her father.
At his hideout, Skye found a picture of him before Coulson and the others arrived. When May found two bodies on the floor, Skye called her father a monster, causing the man to react with anger and grief from where he was watching on hidden cameras.
Skye confronted Coulson again when all returned to the Playground. She wanted full disclosure from Coulson and he decided to give it. He told her that he was upset that the symbols are incomprehensible to him; she revealed that she believes that they are a map.[27]
Playing Ward
- “Thank you for telling me everything you know. It’s time we get you out of here.”
“Really?”
“Really. You’re being transferred, Ward. Your brother wants you in his custody, and we’re gonna give him exactly what he wants.” - ―Skye and Grant Ward
Skye went down to Vault D and asked Grant to give information pertaining to his brother Christian. Digressing from his family to Skye’s, Ward told her that her father killed everyone in the Hunan village because they were all HYDRA agents who had killed her mother. As Skye was having an emotional breakdown, Coulson reactivated the Inertial Confinement Laser Barrier, telling Skye to stay on point.
Skye returned to the cell and begged Ward for all the information he had on her father. After he gave it, Coulson had him handcuffed to be put in federal custody. Passing Skye, he called to her, but she did not respond.[29]
Helping Coulson’s Problems
- “It’s all connected, everything. Ward has information about my father, who just happens to have the alien buzz kill device, which is connected to the writing, which is related to the GH serum that is in our blood. Like we’re pieces to a puzzle.”
- ―Skye to Phil Coulson
Unable to sleep, Skye caught Coulson carving the symbols and confided in him that she was troubled by the connection that everything had. Coulson confided in her also, telling her he was writing the symbols every night and was losing his ability to function. One of Skye’s Rising Tide contacts, Micro, sent her pictures of the murder victim Janice Robbins with the symbols carved into her. Skye and Coulson went to her apartment and found paintings she made with the symbols, signed “A Magical Place.”
Skye accompanied Coulson to the secret room holding the Theta Brain-Wave Frequency Machine, then told Alphonso Mackenzie and Leo Fitz to help hold Coulson down if he became unstable during the session. She was stationed as Coulson’s anchor to the real world as he recalled the past. She researched the names that Coulson gave her and learned that only two former Project T.A.H.I.T.I. patients were still alive, Hank Thompson and Sebastian Derik. When Coulson started acting erratically, Skye called Melinda May, informed her of the situation, and took her suggestion to lock up Coulson.
As Skye went down to Vault D with Coulson, he pushed her inside, activated the Inertial Confinement Laser Barrier and left to find Thompson.
Jemma Simmons freed Skye and she and Mack went to intercept Coulson in the SUV. During the ride, Skye revealed to Mack what was happening. He expressed disgust about Coulson having alien blood inside him; Skye looked at him ironically, as beforehand Phil Coulsonexpressed his concern over the fact Skye had not reacted to the writings as he and John Garrett had, which she should have as she had been injected with the GH.325. Phil Coulson believed the cause of this to be Skye already had the blood in her system and thus now he had started to believe that Skye is a alien, and Skye had reacted strongly against it.
They saw the Thompson family on the road, describing Coulson and Derik fighting, and told them that they will handle the problem. The two held Coulson at gunpoint and begged him not to kill Derik. Coulson revealed that he was not trying to kill Derik but was showing him the train tracks Thompson built. When Skye saw the tracks, she also realized that they were the symbols were three dimensional.
She witnessed Thompson decline Coulson’s offer to join S.H.I.E.L.D.and was one of senior agents assembled when Director Coulson gave a new mission: to find the Kree City that matched the Words of Creation before HYDRA could.
Later, she worked on accessing Sunil Bakshi‘s phone when it rang; Grant Ward called her and assured her that they will see each other again.[30]
Search for the Kree City
- “Standing by with Geek Squad. Paddington and Timelord are closing in. EMP ready in 40 seconds.”
“Copy that.”
“Kaena Point is down. Six minutes on the clock.” - ―Skye and Phil Coulson
Skye, Leo Fitz, and Antoine Triplett went with Phil Coulson to Oahu, Hawaii. He sent her to get an inscription on a watch for Darren, Triplett to give a button to a dry cleaner to place on a General Cole‘s jacket pocket, and Fitz to fix a transceiver in under six minutes.
Then, in Australia, Coulson explained his strange orders. When the watch and the button came together they would cause an EMP in Kaena Point Air Force Base, a military base too hard for them to infiltrate. The EMP would blackout that base but the satellite relaying station in Laura Creek, which was easier to enter, would activate for six minutes until the Hawaiian base was repaired. The transceiver could be used by Skye to hack satellite feeds to find the city.
Skye hacked the satellites aboard the Bus and the search for the city began. When Coulson and Fitz returned, they brought an injured Triplett. Before they could tell her what happened, the Kree City was found.[3] On the trip back to the Playground, Skye had a nightmare; afterwards she had an uneasy feeling about what would happen upon entering the city.[31]
Protecting Raina
Phil Coulson learned that HYDRA assigned Agent 33 to capture Raina. He decided that he wanted Skye on the team that would protect her, instead of the team he was leading to find the city. She gave Coulson a hug before they separated. When the extraction team reached Vancouver, Skye retrieved Raina and Billy Koenig from their safe house and escorted them to the rendezvous point. During the extraction, Agent 33 attacked the three and was defeated by Skye and Lance Hunter. Hunter left to look for Melinda May and Skye stayed with Raina keeping tabs on two HYDRA agents. Raina discovered that Daniel Whitehall was in possession of the Diviner and told Skye that she could touch it without being killed. Raina also told Skye that her father believed that Skye could touch it as well, stating that it was their “destiny” to hold it. Stating this, Raina turned and raced toward the HYDRA agents leaving Skye in pursuit. May slammed a van into the agents and Hunter pulled Skye and Raina aboard.
On board the Bus, Skye sat down with Raina to talk. Raina opened up to her, telling her about her life in Thailand before being picked up by Calvin Zabo. Skye repeated her opinion that her father was a monster, while Raina described him as merely emotional. Skye also procured the information from her that only the ones the Diviner deemed worthy could enter the temple in the hidden city, and that those not worthy “had better have said their goodbyes.” Skye immediately attempted to warn Coulson, but their communications were blocked by HYDRA, who had located the Bus through Raina’s Tracker.
Skye held a gun on Grant Ward as he boarded the Bus for Raina. Seeing Ward working for HYDRA, Skye cited that he gave S.H.I.E.L.D. Sunil Bakshi and told him to pick a side; he assured her that he had. Ward told the occupants of the Bus that the four HYDRA Quinjets surrounding them would not fire if Skye was given to him with Raina. Skye gave herself up to him as well for the sake of the others.[31]
Becoming Inhuman
- “Your whole life – our whole lives – have been leading to this moment.”
“Sorry, I don’t buy into the whole “this is your destiny” thing. We’re taking the Obelisk and we’re leaving. There are too many lives at stake.”
“You got it all wrong. Whitehall, everyone has got it all wrong. This doesn’t destroy, it gives life – new life. We finally get to find out what we become.” - ―Raina and Skye
Upon arriving at HYDRA’s temporary hideout, an abandoned theater in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Skye was finally introduced to her father, Calvin Zabo, who called her by her birth name, Daisy. She openly expressed her fear and revulsion of him, but was relieved to finally receive information about her mother. At that point, Daniel Whitehall finally became aware of Zabo’s intentions, and when he threatened him and Skye, he forced Skye to touch the Diviner. She did, and it glowed, showing symbols. Despite her attempts at defending herself with it, Skye was detained but inevitably freed by Grant Ward; however, Skye, still unforgiving towards him for his betrayal, shot him repeatedly. She failed to kill him because of the Bulletproof Vest he wore. A violent struggle ensued where Phil Coulson and the team arrived and engaged in a shootout with Whitehall’s men. Whitehall himself was gunned down by Coulson, driving Skye’s deranged father into fury. After stopping her father from killing Coulson, Skye left to retrieve the Diviner, but found Raina had taken it to the hidden temple inside the Kree City.
Skye pursued Raina, but failed to stop her from activating the temple. To Skye’s astonishment, the Diviner opened, revealing a crystal which unleashed a mist. While the mist had no effect on Antoine Triplett, who had come to rescue Skye, it caused metamorphic effects on Skye and Raina. The two women were cocooned in stone and emerged with unusual superpowers. Skye now possessed the ability to generate earthquakes, and, breaking down upon seeing Triplett, who had been killed by a shard of a Terrigen Crystal after he kicked it off the pedestal it was on, unleashed a seismic event that slowly tore the temple apart.[32]
Under Observation
- “There is something really wrong with me.”
- ―Skye
Skye was put under observation for precautionary reasons upon the team’s return from the Kree City. While the team was arguing about the whole situation with the city, Skye’s heartbeat rose which triggered a minor tremors to shake objects in her cell. Skye almost told the others, but decided against it. When Jemma Simmons returned to the Playground, she brought DNA samples from Raina. As she checked the DNA samples Skye watched, growing suspicious and nervous that whatever had happened to Raina had happened to her too. The DNA revealed that there had been a major change in Raina’s biology. Simmons then told Skye she would compare her DNA samples with Raina’s and see it they were the same, but that she really doubted it.
Later, Skye overheard Simmons telling Phil Coulson and Melinda May that if necessary so that there would not be an epidemic, she thought it best to put Raina down. This only made Skye more nervous, wondering what they would all think of her if she in fact had turned out to have powers.
Her worst fears were confirmed when a very emotional Leo Fitz told her that he had thought he had the data about her vitals when the earthquake struck the city wrong, but then realized that they were in fact correct, that her heart was beating at an “inhuman” rate, and that she had caused the earthquake. Skye panicked as her worst fear was finally thrust upon her. The quarantine cell then started to rattle and the lamp above Skye’s bed exploded with glass flying in every direction. Fitz immediately ran out of the room; Skye managed to regain her composure and began cleaning up the evidence of the quake so that none of the others would know about her newfound powers. As she picked up the glass her hands were cut.
May and Simmons entered the room outside the box to visit Skye. May knew something was wrong as Skye tried to hide the truth, but when May noticed that her hand was bleeding, Skye struggled for an answer. Fitz then returned, with fake results from Skye’s blood test which he gave to Simmons; it stated that Skye was normal. Fitz then agreed to help Skye get her things and move out of the box. While helping Skye clean her wound in the box, he told her that the real results were like Raina’s results. He also told her that they would keep it a secret for not only her safety but also because the team had too many things to worry about at the moment and did not need something else. Skye then hugged Fitz and started to cry, saying it was all her fault. Fitz reassured her, saying that Skye was “just different now” and that there was “nothing wrong with that”.
Later, Skye joined the rest of the senior agents on the sofas remembering Antoine Triplett.[33]
Secret’s Out
- “Listen to me… just me. We can do this. You can do this.”
“I can’t… I can’t make it stop.”
“You will control your emotions, just like we practiced.”
“I can’t make it stop.” - ―Melinda May and Skye
While continuing the search for Raina, S.H.I.E.L.D. took notice of Lady Sif, who had appeared in Portugal with no recollection of her past or why she was on Earth. After thorough investigations, they discovered that Sif had fought an unknown man who wiped her memory with a hammer-like device. Skye and Bobbi Morse tracked the man down to a hospital, where Skye momentarily lost control of her powers, allowing the man to escape. Skye’s encounter with the man led to the team suspecting that he was actually a Kree, a thought that was later confirmed when the man was apprehended.
Introducing himself as Vin-Tak, the Kree restored Sif’s memory and explained that he had come to Earth after being alerted to Raina‘s activation of the Diviner. He explained the purpose of the Diviners, and his peoples’ role in the creation of the Inhumans. Realizing that she was in fact one of these people, Skye began to panic and lost control of her powers, exposing them to her friends. In the confusion, both Sif and Vin-Tak attempted to apprehend Skye, the former for the protection of the humans, and the latter with the intent of putting Skye down. Phil Coulson and Melinda May protected her, with May taking her to Vault D and activating the Inertial Confinement Laser Barrier to be alone with Skye and remind her of the heartbeat control exercises they practiced. Skye would not calm down as Sif used her sword to break the barrier. Skye then shot herself with an I.C.E.R. to keep from harming anyone. This convinced Sif to stand down.
After Sif and Vin-Tak departed, Skye, self-conscious and hurt by the mixed reactions her powers had on her friends, retreated to the Bus‘ padded interrogation room to be alone.[34]
Therapy Session
Melinda May informed Skye that she was a part of the Index and, as a prerequisite of being an agent with powers, Skye had to have a psychological assessment. Skye protested until she learned that the one giving the interview was Andrew Garner, May’s ex-husband.
Skye constantly asked Garner about his former marriage to May, avoiding his questions. Garner demanded that she stop and take their talk seriously. Skye started to shut down and become distant until Garner started sharing tidbits about his past.
Skye took a nap, but was awakened with May, Garner, Leo Fitz, and Jemma Simmons standing over her; Skye had caused an earthquake in the Playground while she slept. Simmons wanted to give Skye drugs to keep her sedated , but Garner advised against it. Having the others leave the Cage, he talked again to Skye about her lack of control over her powers.
Suddenly the Bus shook again; it was May piloting the plane to assist Phil Coulson and Bobbi Morse against the team of powered individuals assembled by Calvin Zabo. Skye overheard that Coulson needed back-up and offered to assist; May and Garner felt that Skye was not ready for a confrontation involving her father. Skye convinced them that her relationship with Zabo could be advantageous.
Arriving at the high school football field in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Skye allowed May to present her at gunpoint to Zabo. This caused him to hesitate and explain his motives over a microphone; he wanted the world to know how S.H.I.E.L.D. treated people with powers. Zabo handed his microphone to David Angar when Zabo was teleportedaway.
Garner ushered Skye away from the field of battle as the others began to fight; she only ran a few yards before she stopped to watch. When Skye saw the ferocity that Coulson fought Wendell Levi, who begged Coulson not to hit him, an earthquake started. Everyone stopped fighting and turned their attention to her. Skye then internalized her power and fainted under the strain.
Back at the Playground, Simmons told Skye that by internalizing her power, she broke her own arms; Simmons created casts for her to wear. May let Skye know that she was proud of her and would help her however she could.[35]
The Cabin in the Woods
- “You’re one of the few people I know I can trust.”
- ―Phil Coulson to Skye
Thinking about how best to deal with Skye, Phil Coulson took Melinda May‘s and Andrew Garner‘s advice and took her off duty as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent for her and the rest of the team’s safety. He then told Skye to pack her things for a long trip. On the plane, Coulson and Skye spoke about their bad history with parents while dining on some licorice.
Coulson told Skye that Lola was so important to him because he used to fix up the car with his father, who worked on cars when he was young. He also said that although he had wanted to play outside with other kids, when Lola was finished, he was so proud and ended up keeping the beauty.
They eventually arrived at a safehouse. When they entered, Coulson told Skye that the cabin was used to house gifted people and that Steve Rogers even spent a while there after he was defrosted. Skye soon realized that she was brought along to be kept away from the rest of the team because she was becoming too dangerous. So she would not be mad about the situation, Coulson told her that it would not be as bad as she thought it would be. To make Skye feel safer, Coulson informed her that they set up a webcam that was connected to the base, and that May would check in on her every few days.
Coulson then told Skye the harsh truth that she was going to be removed from active duty. Skye did not seem surprised, citing that she probably knew it would eventually happen. He gave Skye newly improved gloves from Simmons, but not without warning her that there may be some side effects. Coulson made it clear to Skye that the time in the safe house would help her gain control of her new powers and master them. Coulson was eventually summoned back to base by May, leaving Skye by herself.[36]
Meeting the Others
Gordon
- “You can do this, Skye. I believe in you. But you need to run… now. They’re coming for you.”
“Who… who’s coming for me? Who…”
“S.H.I.E.L.D.“ - ―Melinda May and Skye
Skye tested the gloves Simmons gave her, and immediately found them uncomfortable. While adjusting, she received an unexpected visit from an eyeless man with the power of teleportation. The man introduced himself as Gordon, a member of a small society of Inhumans who understood what Skye was going through. He told Skye of his own reaction to his transformation, and offered Skye a place with them so she could truly understand how to harness her abilities. He then departed, informing her to call him when she made her choice.
Soon after, Skye removed her gloves and attempted to practice her abilities, using them to manipulate the vibrations in water from the sink. Suddenly, Melinda May called Skye and told her that a hostile force was coming for her. Bobbi Morse, leading a contingent of agents from Robert Gonzales‘ S.H.I.E.L.D., surrounded the safe house in an attempt to detain Skye. While evading her pursuers, Skye got into a brief fistfight with one of the field operatives, prompting Agent Tomas Calderon to attempt to shoot Skye; in response, Skye unleashed a massive shockwave that leveled the surrounding forests and injured Calderon. Shocked and terrified of the results, Skye uttered Gordon’s name, and the man materialized to her location almost immediately, warping her away from the area.[37]
Lincoln Campbell
Two days later, Skye awoke, nearly naked and unable to move, in a bed where Gordon greeted her, but then left her with Lincoln Campbell. Campbell explained that she had slept for so long because the shining needles that he was using on her were removing the effects of the inhibitor gloves that Jemma Simmons had given her. Skye wanted to leave to help Phil Coulson and her other friends, but Campbell reminded her that she was being hunted. Skye accompanied him to the room that she was given and slept.
The next day, Campbell gave Skye a tour of Afterlife, the Inhuman settlement. Though Skye wanted to know where it was, Campbell said that he did not know; only Gordon knew the exact location for safety reasons. As her “transitioner”, Campbell explained the rules of Afterlife and how others were jealous of her because she had her powers while many others who lived there did not yet. Campbell showed her his power but Skye did not reciprocate.
As they ate dinner, Campbell accidentally revealed that Raina was also in Afterlife. In anger, Skye left the room and stormed into Raina’s cabin. Skye confronted her, blaming her for the death of Antoine Triplett; Raina retorted that Skye followed her into the Kree City on her own volition. As Skye attempted to use her power to kill Raina, Jiaying stopped her, explaining that Skye would follow the rules of Afterlife, which included peace from persecution.
Jiaying did not reveal that she was Skye’s mother; instead she told Skye that she had chosen to be her mentor and would train her, as she hoped that the two could develop a rapport.[38]
Jiaying
Skye trained with Jiaying at Afterlife, first starting a controlled avalanche and then playing notes by vibrating water in glasses. However, Skye shattered the glasses, which brought back memories of foster homes. She told Jiaying of her childhood, and the fact that she never felt like any place would be home. She mentioned that she did not know when her birthday was, and to her shock, Jiaying told her that it was July 2nd. Skye realized that Jiaying was her mother, and hugged her, crying.
Upon revealing to Skye their relationship, Jiaying told her to be careful not to reveal it to anyone else, telling her of how the community of Afterlife did not like Inhumans going through Terrigenesis without the appropriate preparation as she had done. Skye learned of how Eva Belyakov made her daughter, Katya Belyakov, go through the Terrigen Mist despite Katya’s lack of preparation. Skye was partially familiar with the story, but from Melinda May‘s perspective. So, given that Skye got her powers without formal preparation, in direct violation of the rules set by Jiaying herself, Jiaying did not want their relationship revealed to others.
Jiaying then asked Skye for a favor; she wanted her to have dinner with her father Calvin Zabo. Though Skye was hesitant in doing this as she still believed her father was a monster, after a promise from Jiaying that she would never have to see Zabo again, she agreed. Skye went to dinner and Zabo presented with her the gift of flowers, the three talked about Skye’s birth. Zabo then told Skye the detailed story of her birth and revealed that she was born in 1988, not 1989 as she originally believed.[2]
Best Day Ever
- “You’re bored. Am I boring you?”
“No. You’re a lot of things, but boring isn’t one of them.” - ―Skye and Calvin Zabo
After the dinner, Skye realized that her father was not always a monster, and she began to worry about sending him away. She went to Jiaying, and told her of her concerns, saying that she was worried that Zabo would go insane and hurt innocent people once he realized that he would never return to Afterlife. However, Jiaying told her that it was neither her concern nor Skye’s.
Skye visited her father’s room, and he eagerly told her that he was going home to retrieve his belongings. Skye thought for a moment, then asked if he was going to China, and Zabo told her that home was Milwaukee. Insisting she come along to lessen the blow for him, Gordon teleported them both to his hometown where she learned how Zabo and Jiaying met, but when he was in an ice-cream store, she made a call to Melinda May and insisted S.H.I.E.L.D. needed to come and get her, but to be wary of her father’s temperament.
Upon learning Zabo’s real last name was Johnson, Skye figured out her true name was Daisy Johnson. However, upon discovering Lincoln Campbell had been shadowing them, Zabo realized what was happening and lost his temper before HYDRA agents stormed the building, looking for Gordon. Zabo and Campbell fended them off while Skye retreated before briefly reunited with Phil Coulson and Grant Ward. Gordon immediately teleported between them and, along with Zabo, teleported back to Afterlife.[39]
Back to S.H.I.E.L.D.
Back at Afterlife, Zabo angrily confronted his wife about his release, inadvertently revealing themselves as Skye’s parents. Jiaying told him to calm down and he was escorted away. Gordon tried to retrieve Campbell, but returned with a gash on his forehead, saying it was HYDRA that attacked them and that they had Lincoln. Skye demanded why Campbell was shadowing her and Zabo, and Jiaying admitted that she sent Campbell to watch over them and make sure Zabo didn’t lose his cool. Skye insisted on rescuing him, but Jiaying said it was too much of a risk for them.[40]
Attack on the Arctic HYDRA Research Facility
- “So that’s what happened in Puerto Rico. At least you can do is thank me.”
“How about I just don’t try to kill you again?” - ―Grant Ward and Skye
Skye asked Gordon to take her to Campbell, but he refused out of concern for her safety. Raina then told them that Skye could save Campbell, showing Skye that Raina’s power was precognition. Skeptical at first, Skye realized the truth when Raina mentioned seeing Phil Coulson and Grant Ward together. Skye and Raina convinced Gordon to teleport Skye from Afterlife. Gordon teleported onto the Bus and reunited Skye with her team including Coulson, her, Melinda May, Leo Fitz, Jemma Simmons and Ward. While promising the others answers, she was unwilling to reveal them with Ward around.
Along with the team, she infiltrated the HYDRA base. There they joined Sunil Bakshi, who was brainwashed to serve under Ward, and she used her powers to help her team. Upon finding Deathlok, he told her Campbell was not in good shape and Skye went off to find him. After fighting her way through several HYDRA agents, Skye reached a dying Campbell. With little options, Skye used her powers to jumpstart Campbell’s heart, saving his life. She and her team successfully got him and Deathlok out before Robert Gonzales blew up the base. She stayed by Campbell’s side as he recovered.[40]
War against the Inhumans
Back to Afterlife
- “You know how this works. You’re a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.”
“I don’t know what I am anymore.” - ―Phil Coulson and Skye
Skye stayed next to Campbell’s bed while he was in a coma for days. When he awoke, he was frightened when he realized he was in a S.H.I.E.L.D. base. He told Skye his fears that now, after S.H.I.E.L.D. knew about the existence of the Inhumans, they will probably search for Afterlife. When Gordon and Raina tried to retrieve the Monolith on the Iliad, Phil Coulson and Melinda May asked Skye about the Stone. Skye answered that neither she or Campbell had ever heard about the Monolith. Coulson asked if she believed Campbell, but Skye said that he and Jiaying helped her to control her powers. Coulson asked how they should call them and Skye said they call themselves Inhumans. May made it clear that they are dangerous; however, Skye retorted that May was as well. Skye told May that Jiaying had told her of what happened to Katya Belyakov and Eva Belyakov in Bahrain, revealing that they also were Inhumans.
Once S.H.I.E.L.D. located Afterlife, Skye tried to convince Coulson that S.H.I.E.L.D. should not go there. Though Coulson reminded Skye of the agency’s policies regarding powered individuals, Skye questioned them. Eventually, Skye asked to return to Afterlife with Campbell first to prepare the settlement. Coulson asked how she could be so certain that Jiaying would listen, and Skye revealed that Jiaying was her mother. Coulson agreed, and once Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons had said goodbye, she and Campbell were transported back to Afterlife by Gordon. [41]
The Arrival of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Arriving at Afterlife, Skye spoke to Jiaying about the arrival of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Though her mother was skeptical about the agency’s motivations, Skye convinced her to meet with Coulson to hear what he had to say. Skye was also present as Jiaying accused Raina of manipulating others with her powers for personal gain. Though Raina protested, no one, including Skye, believed her. Skye, her mother, and Calvin Zabo waited for Coulson; but when a Quinjet arrived, Robert Gonzales disembarked, telling Jiaying that he came with the same intentions. Gonzales asked why Zabo was there, and Jiaying told him that in return for the safe return of Skye and Campbell, she was giving up Zabo to S.H.I.E.L.D. Jiaying asked Skye to take her father to the agents outside. On the way, Zabo told Skye he was grateful to have met her; she returned the sentiment. Reaching the Quinjet, Skye asked Melinda May why Coulson had not come; May told her that there needed to be someone objective meeting with Jiaying. Skye was with Jemma Simmons and Campbell when she heard gunshots from the meeting room. Skye ran to her mother and helped her walk, shocked at blood coming from a gunshot wound in her shoulder. Jiaying claimed that Gonzales had tried to kill her.[41]
Ambush in Afterlife
As Jiaying fell, Skye asked her in a panic what had happened, and Jiaying claimed that Robert Gonzales had said that the Inhumansshould be exterminated. Jemma Simmons wanted to check Jiaying’s condition, but Jiaying rebuffed her, saying that S.H.I.E.L.D. had done enough. Skye told Simmons that S.H.I.E.L.D. should go, and Simmons asked what about her. Skye did not respond, and Simmons left.
Skye and Lincoln Campbell helped Jiaying towards a safe place, but a Quinjet fired two missiles at a house, which exploded, the shockwave causing the three to fall. Standing up, Jiaying asked Skye why she had let this happen, but Skye responded that she had had no idea what would happen. Jiaying was taken to a safe house, and Skye confronted Melinda May, who was looking for Gonzales. May asked Skye where Gonzales was so they could fix this, but Skye said that it was too late for fixing, saying S.H.I.E.L.D. should leave Afterlife. When May refused, the two women started fighting each other, and Skye used her powers to knock May out.
In a room where Jiaying was being attended to, Skye told Campbell that she had thought that, with her healing powers, Jiaying wouldn’t feel the pain. Campbell replied that was not the case and that Jiaying did feel everything. Skye asked the doctor who assessed Jiaying if she could donate blood for her mother, but Campbell accused her of planning the attack on Afterlife with S.H.I.E.L.D.. Jiaying said that she believed Skye was still with them and was as shocked by the attack as everyone else. When the argument continued to heat up, Jiaying asked for everyone to leave her in peace to recover.
Skye then visited Raina and said to her that she had already known about the attack on Afterlife. Raina admitted that she had, and that she knew that Skye came to her so she would tell her the future. Skye listened as Raina said that if she would, Skye wouldn’t believe her. Raina said that she had had a vision earlier that day, which had revealed the truth to her. Skye asked for Raina to tell her, but Raina said again that Skye wouldn’t believe her, and that her destiny was to help Skye fulfill hers. When Skye stormed out, Raina told her they would never speak again, Jiaying was misleading her people, and it was Skye’s destiny to lead the Inhumans.
Skye visited Jiaying again and was surprised that she had healed so fast. Jiaying told her that having her here was the best medicine she could have. Skye told her that she had spoken with Raina, but believed she should not have gone. Jiaying said that the safety of her people was more important. Skye brought up the fact that S.H.I.E.L.D. could find them anywhere, and Jiaying said that that was why they should bring the battle to them. She brought Skye a necklace, saying that if she decided to join their fight, she should bring it back to her. [42]
Witnessing Raina’s Death
Skye saw the meeting of Jiaying and Raina and how Jiaying killed her. After her mother saw her, Skye threw the necklace to the floor. Skye approached and told her that Raina had known that she would see this and that who Jiaying really was so she killed her. Jiaying said that everything she had and will do was for their people, but Skye regularized that she had killed Robert Gonzales and she wanted that a war will start.
Jiaying explained her action so the Inhumans would have the advantage, however Skye said that Gonzales had came to make peace. Jiaying said that she had build Afterlife so they will live in peace, but after S.H.I.E.L.D.found them, they will hunt the Inhumans wherever they will go or whatever they will do. Skye said what did she plan and Jiaying said their and her future. Jiaying said that after she will be gone, Skye should lead and protect the Inhumans in the way she had protected, but Skye said that if they needed a protection it was from her. Suddenly Skye was struck by one of Jiaying’s man and was put in a prison in the Iliad, after the Inhumans took over the ship.[42]
Fighting Back
- “You saw what she did with those crystals killed unarmed agents. Okay, think. Why would she want the rest of S.H.I.E.L.D. to come here? It’s not to hug it out. She wants to execute them.”
- ―Skye to Lincoln Campbell
Skye was in her cell, guarded by one of Alisha Whitley‘s duplicates, but she later was freed by Alphonso Mackenzie. He told her how many agents the Inhumans had killed and captured. He also asked her for her hacking skills. The two noticed the emergency beacon that was sent to all S.H.I.E.L.D. channels and they realized that Jiaying wanted to use the Terrigen Crystals to call to as many of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents as possible and execute them. They went to shut down the beacon. On their way, Mackenzie assured her that her mother’s betrayal was not her fault. He sent Skye to hack into the computer systems to shut down the emergency signal while he went in search of equipment.
Skye began to hacking but Lincoln Campbell confronted her and attacked her with his powers, stunning her. Skye begged him to listen to her as she claimed he had the information all wrong, and that Jiaying had murdered Robert Gonzales and staged the entire attack on the Inhumans as a way of tricking them into following her into a war. Skye explained that Jiaying had murdered Raina after she had had a vision of Jiaying’s plan. Campbell believed her, but just as he told her where the Terrigen Crystals were being kept, he was knocked out by Mackenzie. Mackenzie then went to protect the Crystals.
Instead of shutting down the beacon, Skye created a code in the beacon that warned everyone who read it about Jiaying’s plan. The code was read by Leo Fitz on his way with Phil Coulson, Melinda May and Calvin Zabo to the ship. Skye also sent another message about the Crystals. Skye then found Jiaying and confronted her, failing again. Jiaying then left with the Crystals to the Quinjets to use them to exterminate the humans and create new Inhumans. Alisha Whitley was ordered to fight Skye. Skye fought her but when she was almost defeated, May and Campbell found and helped her. May forgave Skye and Skye went to stop Jiaying.[43]
A Terrible Choice
- “It’s consumed you. You can’t even tell right from wrong. I can’t let you destroy any more lives.”
- ―Skye to Jiaying
Skye found her mother and begged her to stop, but Jiaying did not listen, saying that it was the only way to protect her people. Skye said that she didn’t want to protect her people or her, she wanted to do this because of hate. Jiaying realized that Skye would not listen, so she used her powers to suck the life-force out of Skye. However, Skye was able to muster whatever strength she had left and used it to create a shockwave that pushed the Quinjet off the ship and into the sea, causing the Terrigen Crystals to be lost forever.
With her plan in ruins, Jiaying once again tried to kill Skye, only for Skye to use her powers to try to kill her, causing Jiaying’s scars to open and bleed. The pair were interrupted by Calvin Zabo, who had escaped and begged them to stop. When Zabo said that they would not stop until one of them was dead, he pulled Jiaying away from their daughter and broke her nerve endings; he then lifted her high in the air and broke her spine, killing her, before breaking down and crying over the body of his beloved wife. The human race was saved and The Inhuman threat was over.[43]
Goodbyes
- “I know I’m going away for good, but I was hoping you might come visit, once in a while.”
“I will, I promise.”
“That would be…”
“Let me guess, the best day ever? You have a lot of those.”
“No, just one. July 2nd, 1988.” - ―Calvin Zabo and Skye
With the Inhuman threat at an end, Calvin Zabo left the Playground. As he was leaving, he was walked out by Skye. In their last few moments together, Zabo told her that she was better than he ever imagined, even though he had imagined her perfect. Assuming that he was going to be incarcerated for the rest of his life for his crimes, Zabo requested that Skye come and visit him at his prison, and she promised that she would, telling him it would be the best day ever. Zabo told her he had only had one best day, the day she was born. But instead, Zabo’s mind was erased by S.H.I.E.L.D. at a request from Skye, using the remaining resources from Project T.A.H.I.T.I., and he was allowed to begin a new and happy life as Doctor Winslow with no memory of his true past.[43]
Project Caterpillars
- “And what about you? Are you ready to refocus your energies?”
“A team centered around people with powers? How many on the list?”
“Right now, just you.” - ―Phil Coulson and Skye
Skye and Phil Coulson drove to visit her father at his new work as a veterinarian. She was happy to see him as a new person. She presented herself as Daisy, to which Winslow responded that that was a beautiful name. Skye then returned to Coulson and he asked her about her thoughts on leading a new initiative for people with powers, where they could use their abilities to help protect the world. Skye insisted that if they did this, the team should be kept a secret so the people involved could still live their own private lives. Coulson agreed, noting that his missing arm would be his personal reminder of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s past mistakes.[43]
Rescue of Joey Gutierrez
- “My name’s Daisy and I’m with S.H.I.E.L.D. and we’re here for your protection.”
- ―Daisy Johnson to Joey Gutierrez
Having fully assumed her birth name, Daisy Johnson began working with Alphonso Mackenzie on recruiting and safeguarding new Inhumans. She, Mackenzie, and Lance Hunter went to Seattle, Washington to extract Joey Gutierrez before the Advanced Threat Containment Unit could. She used her powers on the Unit’s soldiers to keep them from shooting Gutierrez. She introduced herself to the frightened man and assured him that he would be safe with S.H.I.E.L.D., sending him to the Zephyr One. Later, she explained to him that he was an Inhuman. However, when Gutierrez desired to return to his life, Mackenzie bluntly told he would likely end up dead, agitating him and causing his powers to go out of control, forcing Johnson to sedate him by blasting him against a wall.
Phil Coulson and Johnson then conversed about Gutierrez and the Zephyr One. Johnson’s main concern was how the ATCU was able to find the newly-transformed so quickly, and how they were disappearing.
Johnson and Mackenzie went to the hospital where Lincoln Campbellworked and asked him to be Gutierrez’s transitioner. Campbell refused; Mackenzie told Campbell that he was going to stay and allow his partner to speak her peace.[44]
The Coming of Lash
Before the argument of Alphonso Mackenzie and Lincoln Campbellcould escalate further, the lights began to short circuit. Running to the main lobby, the three saw a monstrous man kill a security guard while asking for an Inhuman. Campbell proceeded to fight the man; Johnson, using her vibrational powers, and Mackenzie, using his sidearm, acted as backup. The man then cut a hole into the wall and fled.
Insisting that they pursue the man, Johnson led Campbell and Mackenzie through the hospital to find him. When the man suddenly appeared and incapacitated Mackenzie, Johnson and Campbell used their powers on him simultaneously but to no avail, as the man continued his advance towards them. Johnson then directed her powers on the floor under their foe; he fell through the floor and escaped the hospital.
She asked Campbell to come to the Playground since he was now discovered with powers; Campbell refused, and fled on his own.
Returning to the Playground, Johnson went into Gutierrez’s room. As they watched the press conference of President Matthew Ellis, they sipped a beer.[44]
Return of Doctor Garner
- “This is a chance to show people they have a place to belong.”
- ―Daisy Johnson to Andrew Garner
Johnson said to Alphonso Mackenzie that she thought Joey Gutierrez was a fitting candidate to the team of powered individuals she sought, but Mackenzie did not think the same. She also said that Coulson’s team would be soon with only three people as the rest were gone, left or injured. Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter suddenly entered, rushing to the Monolith room where Leo Fitz had opened the containment of the Monolith. They found him facing it, screaming. They managed to close the containment door before the stone transformed to liquid form and then returned to solid form. Fitz said that he could not give up on Jemma Simmons. He noticed that on Morse’s finger were sand grains. He then explained in Phil Coulson‘s office that it came from another world, far from Earth and that it was proof that Simmons was out there. Johnson asked him if the Monolith was a portal, and he responded that when it had taken Simmons, it had sent the sand from the other planet. Everyone agreed they had to find out what happened with Simmons. Coulson ordered Johnson and Mackenzie to stay in the Playgroundand help Andrew Garner‘s assessment as the building of the team was still priority; he, Fitz and Morse went to ask Elliot Randolph‘s help in the case.
As Garner came to the base, Johnson offered him food and drinks, but Garner explained that, when it came to the safety of her and her team, bribing him would not make the assessment preside shorter. Mackenzie gave Garner Gutierrez’s file; when he asked how the two were doing, Johnson quickly stopped him, saying that their only conversation would be friendly. He said that that was what he meant to do. She asked him how was Melinda May and if she ever planned to return from her vacation; Garner responded that she should ask her herself. After Garner returned from assessing Gutierrez, Johnson guessed that he thought that he was not qualified to take a part in her team. Garner said that maybe in a time he would be, but Johnson said that the team should be setting up as fast as possible because the new threats that emerged. Garner said that he understood the need for the team, but he needed also to ensure their safety. Johnson said that this team could do what Jiaying had failed: to show the Inhumans that they had a place to belong.[45]
Opening a Portal
- “I can do it. I can open the portal myself.”
- ―Daisy Johnson
Alphonso Mackenzie got a call from Phil Coulson that he needed the Monolith to be brought to a room in an English castle where they could transform it to a portal. Johnson came with Mackenzie on the Zephyr One and then to the room. She wondered if there was a chance they could succeed. She then said to Coulson and Bobbi Morse the things Andrew Garner had said about them. They then activated the machines of the room that caused the Monolith, that was in a hole on the floor, to transform into its liquid state. Johnson heard a deafening noise that caused her bleeding from her nose and to faint as the machines broke.
Coulson asked Johnson if she was alright but called her “Skye”, to which Johnson responded that she called “Daisy”. She then realized that she was the only person who had heard the noise. Leo Fitz then realized that the room they occupied was shaped to send the Monolith a high frequency that would make it transform to a portal. Johnson then realized that she could open the portal with her powers. The team prepared to send through the portal a probe that so they could see the planet through it. Elliot Randolph asked what she was planning to do as Johnson started to activate her powers. The Monolith transformed again to a portal; Fitz, tied to a line, jumped through it to the other planet. While Fitz was searching for Jemma Simmons, Johnson was struggling to keep the portal open. Couslon then ordered them to bring him back. As Johnson released her powers, the Monolith exploded, but Fitz returned with Simmons back to Earth. After she saw them, she fell down but Mackenzie held her and said that she had done good.[45]
Search for Lincoln Campbell
- “You… you help people because you were meant to. You can do that with us, like you were doing at the hospital saving lives.”
“That part of my life is over.”
” No, you… you are not cursed. You are not some horrible thing. I know… because you taught me that I wasn’t.” - ―Daisy Johnson and Lincoln Campbell
Johnson entered Phil Coulson‘s office to inform him that the Advanced Threat Containment Unit had pursued Lincoln Campbelland had given his resume and photo to many agencies. She said that although he had refused S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s help, it did not mean he deserved to be hunted by the ATCU and the monstrous man. Coulson agreed they should bring him in. Johnson noted that he and Alphonso Mackenzie stared at each other and knew they were hiding something.
They then told her that Mackenzie had pinned a Tracker on Campbell at the time they had visited him in the hospital. Johnson then called Campbell and revealed that she knew where he was and they needed to bring him to somewhere safe since the authorities were searching for him, but he hung up and destroyed the Tracker. She and Mackenzie argued about what they should have done with Campbell, but Coulson calmed them and said they would figure out what to do.
Coulson then asked her to locate Campbell’s last location, but Johnson argued with him about his actions. However, eventually she agreed, but took the time to visit Jemma Simmons in her room. Simmons first called Johnson by the name “Skye” and then corrected herself, but Johnson said that she could call her whatever she wanted. Johnson said that she was there for her if Simmons wanted to talk about what had happened to her on the alien planet, but Simmons said that she would rather listen to news of the Terrigenesis outbreak. As Simmons started to speak of her experience on the planet, she was startled from the ringing of Johnson’s phone. She answered the phone, and it was Campbell, who said he had accidentally killed his friend and needed help. Johnson left Simmons’s room and informed Coulson that Campbell was waiting for their extraction and she needed to come with Mackenzie. Coulson said that it was her decision and then went to the beach to meet with Rosalind Price.
Johnson went to the apartment where Campbell was hiding, and he told her that he was really a monster. Johnson told him that she had learned neither the Inhumans nor him were a curse, because they had a place to belong and they could help people, and she said that he taught her that she had a purpose and her life was not over. They then kissed and Campbell said that he agreed to work with her, but not with S.H.I.E.L.D. Mackenzie then entered and said that there was a change in the plan as the ATCU soldiers entered and arrested Campbell, by Coulson’s order. Johnson demanded an explanation of what was happening, but Mackenzie said that Coulson said she would be safe. Campbell then used his powers to knock the soldiers out and escaped. Luther Banks then ordered his soldiers to arrest Johnson, but Mackenzie stood against him. Banks then got a call from Rosalind Price; he and the soldiers then left without Johnson.
Back in the Playground, Coulson explained that he had had to make a choice between Johnson or Campbell. He said that since the Advanced Threat Containment Unit had her picture and Campbell had escaped, he offered Price an alliance between S.H.I.E.L.D. and the ATCU, as a lesson from S.H.I.E.L.D.’s fight against Brigadier General Glenn Talbot and the fight against the other S.H.I.E.L.D. faction. After Coulson got a call from Price, Johnson then understood that Mackenzie had not told him about the romance between her and Campbell. She went to say thank you to Mackenzie before sitting beside him on the sofa and the two played a video game.[46]
Hunting Lash
- “You think the ATCU knew about him?”
“Worse. What if they’re running him?”
“I think the conspiracy nut in you had a few too many lattes this morning.”
“I did have a latte. It was a double. But if I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were defending the ATCU, or the dragon lady.” - ―Daisy Johnson and Phil Coulson
When Alisha Whitley assisted S.H.I.E.L.D. with a recruitment mission for an Inhuman couple, a monstrous man came and killed the couple and one of Alisha’s duplicates. Johnson and Alphonso Mackenzie searched for him on Phil Coulson‘s order. They followed the trail to a dark industrial place, where they were surprised by the Advanced Threat Containment Unitand Rosalind Price. Coulson joined them and said that they were helping the ATCU to find the monstrous killer. Johnson argued with Coulson about the deal he had made with the ATCU, but Coulson replied that it was a means to an end. Johnson asked if it was S.H.I.E.L.D.’s or the ATCU’s means, but Coulson did not respond.
Back at the Playground, Johnson and Bobbi Morse visited Coulson in his office to inform him that the monstrous man was an Inhuman, who Johnson could not believe had killed his own kind. Johnson also told Coulson and Morse that the couple had gotten a mysterious email that had given away their location. Coulson ordered her to send the information to the ATCU. At first, Johnson asked that they get some information as a return for their cooperation, but Coulson said that the two organizations had to strengthen the alliance between them first. Johnson agreed.
Johnson returned to Coulson after she had spoken with Luther Banks. She told Coulson that he said that the ATCU had came across that email before, but could not find the source. However, Johnson searched and found out that the emails had been sent by Dwight Frye, who Johnson thought had become an Inhuman and was hunting others. Johnson theorized that the ATCU was running this man, but Coulson did not believe that. Johnson said that she thought Coulson defended them and Rosalind Price too much. Coulson ordered her to take Mackenzie and go to Frye’s home.
Outside the home, Price and Banks waited for them. Johnson used her powers to open the door and she entered to search for Frye. She found what looked like the monstrous man’s shell after his Terrigenesis. She then found Frye in his closet, crying. When Johnson tried to help him, he yelled at her, demanding her to get out. Johnson used her powers to dash him against a wall. Mackenzie pulled him out and noticed Frye had a reaction on his face from Johnson’s presence, so she was asked to leave the room. Johnson listened to Frye as he told Coulson and Price the alliance he made with the monstrous man called Lash, and how he helped him to track Inhumans so he could kill them.[47]
Transporting Frye
- “I saw something. And I’m not sure, but I don’t think Lash is just some great white shark. I think he can turn into a person.”
- ―Daisy Johnson to Alphonso Mackenzie
Phil Coulson and Rosalind Price ordered Luther Banks to arrest Frye and transport him to the ATCU facility. However, Coulson negotiated with Price to allow Johnson and Mackenzie to accompany Banks, ensure Frye’s good treatment, and inspect the facility. Johnson and Mackenzie obtained permission to ride, but Price sent Banks on ahead of them.
In the van, Johnson’s presence continued to agitate Frye, but suddenly his pain increased tremendously as Lashripped open the roof of the van. Johnson sent a shockwave at Lash which knocked him back, but also caused the van to crash and the agents inside to be knocked unconscious. Lash dragged Frye out and killed him. Johnson awoke as Lash walked away; she stared as he looked back at her, then kept going. Johnson appeared to see Lash’s shadow shudder and shrink; she began to wonder if the killer could transform into a human. She told that to Alphonso Mackenzie in the hospital after he had gotten hit by Lash. Price them visited them and Johnson told her Coulson was after Grant Ward.[47]
Tracking Banks
- “Lash was tracking us. He knew where our truck was. He… he needed inside info for that.”
“You think he’s got access to ATCU information?”
“No, I… I think he’s in the ATCU.” - ―Daisy Johnson and Phil Coulson
With her new theory that Lash could change between a human and a beast, Johnson began to suspect that Luther Banks was the Inhuman killer. To follow up, she requested and obtained permission to track him, with Alphonso Mackenzie joining the mission. As they were about to leave, a desperately bored Lance Hunter asked to join as the driver; Johnson and Mackenzie reluctantly agreed.
Johnson, Mackenzie, and Hunter followed Banks as he drove home, then made a call outside. Johnson and Mackenzie discussed what to do, as they could not reach him. However, Johnson was surprised to see Hunter, with a bandanna over his face, walk up to Banks and shoot him with an I.C.E.R. Furious, Johnson confronted Hunter as he dragged Banks back to the van; Hunter told them that the best way to see if Banks was Lash was to test his blood for Inhuman markers. Johnson grudgingly admitted that his suggestion was smart and sent a blood sample back to S.H.I.E.L.D., asking Jemma Simmons to test it. While waiting for the sample’s results, Mackenzie and Hunter went through Bank’s phone; they noticed a text message informing Banks of a test subject being moved to a lab. Johnson traced the lab and the team decided to investigate it, leaving a still-unconscious Banks in his car.
At the lab, Johnson revealed she had a new D.W.A.R.F. that Leo Fitz had been working on but had not yet authorized for use, telling Mackenzie that she had stolen it. As she searched the facility, Johnson received a call from Simmons, who told her that the blood samples had come back fully human. Hunter stated that despite this, Banks still could not be trusted. Johnson watched the D.W.A.R.F.’s video feed as it showed something arriving at the lab: an Inhuman suspended in gel inside a cage. With horror, Johnson saw that Phil Coulson and Rosalind Price were watching also, from the floor of the facility.[48]
Fighting Lash
- “I protect people.”
“It doesn’t matter.”
“How can you say that?”
“Because for every Daisy Johnson, there’s a Lash, and it’s ignorant for you to think otherwise.” - ―Daisy Johnson and Rosalind Price
As Johnson and Phil Coulson were arguing Rosalind Price and the Advanced Threat Containment Unit intention to cure the Inhumans, he explained that he would meet with president Matthew Ellis about the Inhuman threat. He asked Johnson to talk with Price while they would head to the meeting on the Zephyr One. Andrew Garner went to do Joey Gutierrez‘s evaluation to join her project in the Cocoon. On Zephyr One, Price came on board and he told her that Johnson will show her around. The two very quickly argued about her powers and the ATCU actions against the Inhumans. As Price told her that for every “good” Inhuman there is a “bad” one, such as Lash, Johnson walked away.
Suddenly, Alphonso Mackenzie and Lincoln Campbell landed on the Zephyr, claiming that Lash was actually Garner. At first, Johnson did not believe, but Coulson ordered to find him and Melinda May, who had been kidnapped by him. With the help of ATCU soldiers, they raided an abounded building in Culver University. She warned Campbell not attack Lash until Coulson ordered that. However, he did, and a fight started between the two sides. When Lash threw Price from a great high, Johnson, without knowing she was capable to do that, saved her by making her hover slowly to the ground. May then shot Lash and he was hold in the Containment Module. After the battle, May asked Johnson’s opinion what to do with him. She agreed that keeping him inside the Module until a cure will be invented was his best option.[49]
Hacking the ATCU
- “Did you just hack the ATCU?
“No, but the Containment Module broadcasts some pretty intense encrypted homing signals. You put it inside a corporate office, and it’ll wig the I.T. department out real good.” - ―Lincoln Campbell and Daisy Johnson
Johnson and the new agent, Lincoln Campbell, were walking together in the Playground when they crossed Melinda May. Campbell told her that she gave him “hate stares” since he had joined S.H.I.E.L.D., but he was grateful having finally a place to sleep in. They talked about their kiss and their next one, but Johnson said that he needed to prepare to Phil Coulson‘s orders. Coulson briefed his agents about Operation Spotlight. He appointed her and Alphonso Mackenzie to hacked the Advanced Threat Containment Unit system through the Containment Module on Zephyr One. On the Zephyr, Johnson manged to create a security breach in the ATCU base, which allowed Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter to infiltrator the base. Johnson helped Hunter to say the correct word so he could sound as a real hacker. She then helped them to enter a room where they discovered that the ATCU tried to create many Inhumans as possible. After the two managed to escape unharmed, the team listened Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons explaining that HYDRA was an ancient organization which was founded hundreds of years ago.[50]
Secret Warriors
Attack on the HYDRA Castle
- “Seems I might just get my team after all.”
- ―Daisy Johnson
After Rosalind Price was assassinated by Grant Ward, Phil Coulson interrogated each member of his original team in order to find a weakness in Ward. She was asked by Coulson if she thought Ward had only acted like he liked her and exploited her, but she answered that she believed Ward truly liked her. She also told him that she could understand Ward’s motives, even though she would never forget what he had done
As Coulson went to searched after Ward and to kill him, Alphonso Mackenzie was appointed to the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Johnson was told by him that Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons had been kidnapped by HYDRA. She urged him to go rescue them, but he did not believe that this was a right move, so he called Coulson for an advice.
Having formed a plan to rescue their agents, Johnson and Alphonso Mackenzie entered a Quinjet where agents were loading gear. Johnson listened as Mackenzie informed Lincoln Campbell and Joey Gutierrez that HYDRA had kidnapped Fitz and Simmons and he needed their help to rescue them. Johnson was delighted when both agreed to help, knowing her dream of a team of Inhumans was coming true. Johnson fist-bumped Mackenzie and the mission began.[51]
Once outside the castle, Johnson, along with Campbell, Gutierrez, and Melinda May, searched for a way inside. Johnson spotted Giyera, whom she noted was telekinetic. Johnson ordered Campbell to shut off the lights for a better stealth entry. Inside, Johnson started hacking into the HYDRA computers. However, Giyera discovered her and tried to shoot her. Gutierrez leaped in front of Johnson to save her, but the bullets melted before penetrating his skin. Campbell knocked Giyera out as Johnson congratulated Gutierrez on his powers.
The team reunited in the portal chamber once Simmons had been rescued. Johnson stayed in the chamber as Gutierrez left to reinforce the door. Mackenzie ordered everyone but Johnson and himself to leave the castle and return to Zephyr One while they stayed to rescue Coulson and Fitz from Maveth.
Johnson waited for the two to return from the alien planet; just as the portal collapsed, the men returned. Johnson and Mackenzie got the two to the Containment Module, and Mackenzie ordered May to blow up the castle as they flew the Module back to Zephyr One. Once on the plane, Johnson happily hugged Campbell, believing that they had stopped HYDRA’s plan.[52]
New Teammate
- “You’re my new best friend.”
- ―Daisy Johnson to Elena Rodriguez
After a weaponry abduction incident in Bogotá involving an Inhumanoccurred, Johnson and Joey Gutierrez came to the National Police of Colombia station and talked to Victor Ramon about it. Alphonso Mackenzie then was kidnapped by the Inhuman, so Johnson cheeked the security cameras and found out that the Inhuman had super-speed abilities. She broke in the Inhuman’s apartment and arrested her.
In Zephyr One, the team learned that the Inhuman was Elena Rodriguez. She explained to them that she did not want to use the weapons, but to get rid of them so the police stop using them. Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter were taken by the police to the station. Mackenzie convinced Rodriguez to help them fight against them. Johnson, Gutierrez and Rodriguez used their powers together to fight the policemen, destroy their weapons and capture the Inhuman Lucio. However, as the team went with him to the custody, an HYDRA QuadCopter flew over them and took Lucio. Later, Johnson and Mackenzie agreed they should join Rodriguez to the Secret Warriors. Gutierrez took a time out from S.H.I.E.L.D.. In the Playground, Johnson and Lincoln Campbell offered him the same thing, but Campbell claimed he wanted to stay.[53]
Potential Cure
- “It’s a birthright. It is not a choice. And maybe things are getting out of whack because it’s our time.”
- ―Daisy Johnson to Lincoln Campbell
As Johnson and Bobbi Morse prepared for the “Symposium on the Alien Contagion”, the first complained about the panic Humans made of the Inhumans, and not all of them meant to harm people. Glenn Talbot then came to the Playground. He demeaned that his new bodyguard, Carl Creel, would come with him to the symposium. Johnson agreed that he should not be trusted, but Phil Coulson said that he allowed to Creel to join the mission. Coulson told Johnson that she was not in the mission, since she was an Inhuman. Later, Johnson trained Lincoln Campbell in boxing in order for him to prepare for his S.H.I.E.L.D. training at the Cocoon. The pair proved to be almost equally matched until Johnson was able to flip Campbell over and pin him to the ground as they continued flirting. Before they could kiss each other, Jemma Simmons interrupted, asking for Campbell’s help.
Johnson heard them examining Creel’s blood as a cure for Terrigenesis. Johnson entered the lab, horrified about the idea. Campbell noted that Jiaying was right about being selective for who should become an Inhuman, but Johnson disagreed. She argued it was a birthright, that Campbell was sounding like the Watchdogs and being Inhuman was not a disease. After their debate, Johnson entered her bedroom where Campbell waited for her. He told her that he was jealous that she was calm with her power, as he felt controlling his powers was like a war within his head. Johnson told him it could be good to lose control and the pair had sex.[54]
Mission in Siberia
- “You ready, sestra[55]?
“Da.” - ―Bobbi Morse and Daisy Johnson
Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter managed to follow Gideon Malick to Siberia, with the team follow them on Zephyr One. After a few hours, Johnson, Melinda May and Alphonso Mackenzie landed with a Quinjet to assist Morse and Hunter. Morse informed them that a group of Russian ministers had a meeting with Malick to see an Inhuman. They plan to get inside the compound. After they infiltrated the compound, Johnson found the main computer, but had trouble to use it since the keyboard was in Russian.
Morse managed to install a listening device during Malick’s meeting. There, Anton Petrov revealed that the Inhuman was General Androvich. Johnson said that he was the first Inhuman politician. Johnson followed the General through the security cameras. Mackenzie saw something strange in Androvich’s footage, so Johnson sent it to the Zephyr One. As the Russian Prime Ministerarrived to the compound, Phil Coulson ordered the agents to go to protract him from Androvich, since he wanted to assassinate him. The team converted to the meeting, and with a smoke bomb, Johnson, Morse and Mackenzie kidnapped Androvich. As they were walking with him, Johnson heard him threading them. Suddenly, a shadow appeared from the wall and attacked them.
The shadow was harmless to their attacks, even not to Johnson’s powers. After he knocked out Mackenzie, the shadow disappeared and so Androvich. Jemma Simmons told him that the shadow couldn’t be defeated. Morse said that only by killing Androvich the shadow would be gone. They shadow attacked again and Morse managed to leap him, but disappeared again. Johnson started to ask how could they defeat him and the shadow leafed her to the ceiling and knocked her out. Mackenzie brought her back to Zephyr One.
After Morse killed Androvich, she and Hunter where arrested. Coulosn went to free them, but he returned to Zephyr One alone. He informed that the team and they were disavowed from S.H.I.E.L.D. in order to keep it a secret. Later, the team visited a bar where Morse and Hunter were. Without directly contacting them, Johnson and the others all ordered shots for the two, saying goodbye in the only way they could.[56]
Fighting the Watchdogs
- “We’re S.H.I.E.L.D. I’m trying to save lives. I’ll use whatever advantage I have to do it.”
- ―Daisy Johnson to Alphonso Mackenzie
Following the Attack on the ATCU Headquarters by the Watchdogs, Phil Coulson sent Johnson and Leo Fitz to the scene. In the hangar, Johnson greeted Lincoln Campbell who had returned from his evaluation at the Cocoon. Johnson suggested to Coulson to bring Campbell to the mission since the leaving of Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter, but Coulson refused. At the scene, Fitz and Alphonso Mackenzie discovered that the Watchdogs had used Nitramene to collapse the building. Johnson informed Coulson about it and he suspected Felix Blake had to do with the incident.
On Zephyr One, Johnson told them that she had tracked some of the Watchdogs members and they could interrogate someone on the incident. Mackenzie, however, was against the idea she would use her power against them only for interrogation. Johnson continued her plan and took Fitz to question Dallas Wyatt. With her powers, Johnson stopped Wyatt’s car and used them to threaten him. He told her that the Watchdogs operate in Easterling Farms. She later gave the information to Mackenzie.
At night, Johnson, Mackenzie and Fitz went to farms. With one of Fitz’s D.W.A.R.F.s, they saw Felix inside a barn. Suddenly, Mackenzie’s brother, Ruben, came and attracted the Watchdogs’ attention. Johnson used her powers against them and went to the barn but could not see Blake. One of them shot a Niteramene at Fitz’s neck. Johnson tried to defect it but nothing happened to it. Inside the Containment Module, with the help of a Watchdogs member, Johnson managed to destroy the Niteramene. She told the Watchdogs member she would hand him over to Glenn Talbot, but he told her the Watchdogs were after Mackenzie as they mistook him for being an Inhuman. Mackenzie managed to deal with them, but got injured. Johnson told his brother about her partnership with him.
Later, Johnson found out that Gideon Malick supported the Watchdogs.[57]
Glimpse to the Future
- “Sir, I’m the best choice to handle this, and since Bobbi‘s gone, I’m the only one left who can.”
“You’re not unstoppable, Daisy.”
“I’m willing to put that to the test.” - ―Daisy Johnson and Melinda May
While riding in Zephyr One a call came through in which Edwin Abbottdesperately called for Johnson’s help. The team went to investigate as Abbott desperately tried to explain to Johnson he had seen these events already happening in a vision of his own death given to him by Charles Hinton. An HYDRA QuadCoptersuddenly arrived and Johnson and Abbott hided behind a car, but Abbott was killed by HYDRA. Johnson, realizing Hinton was an Inhuman, ran towards him to save him, but the Extraction Claw kidnapped Hinton. Johnson touched Hinton and she revived a vision of a woman crying, Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons holding hands while the snow falls, Lincoln Campbell‘s face is covered in blood, her fighting HYDRA guards in a room, Phil Coulson shooting at her and Hinton at a roof top dying. HYDRA escaped with Hinton and Johnson was shocked of what she had seen.
The team returned to the Playground where Johnson explained her visions. They began discussing how they could try and get ahead of the vision and change the future, but Fitz insisted that it was a fixed point in time which could not be altered no matter what they did. Coulson suggested that they ensure that Johnson would not leave the Playground in order to change the course of the future. Instead, Coulson suggested Melinda May would go to save Hinton, since she had not appeared in Johnson’s vision. Johnson disagreed and said she was meant to save Hinton, but Coulson’s decision was final.
Johnson gave details of the location of the battle to Fitz and Simmons, and they used S.H.I.E.L.D. services to find it. May entered the room and demeaned they would not use all of them. Simmons explained that she and May used some of the services to find Lash. Johnson saw the women she had seen in her vision. She was Hinton’s wife and she told Johnson about Hinton’s past, his power and that everyone touching him would see someone’s death.
May approached Johnson and asked her to help her prepare the battle. With the help of Fitz, Simmons and Campbell, she began training May undergo her mission as fast as possible in order to change the vision’s outcome. Johnson made sure the room was laid out as accurately as possible to the vision she had had the agents acted as the guards who needed to be taken out. Eventually May managed to beat the time limit. They found the building where Hinton was held, which was owned by Transia Corporation. As Coulson gave his last orders to May when suddenly the alarms in the base went off, telling them that there was an intruder. Andrew Garner was brought into the base and explained that Lash was taking over and he wanted to say goodbye to May.
Coulson urged May to stay with Garner since she would not see him again. May disagreed, claiming Garner was a killer, so Johnson said she would go. At first Coulson disagreed, but Johnson explained that since Bobbi Morse had left, she was their best agent who could save Hilton, and Coulson could stay in the base to change the outcome. Coulson agreed and accompanied her to a Quinjet. He asked her to go back safe and accidentally called her “Skye”.[58]
Battle at the Transia Corporation Building
- “But now I’m afraid that she could grow up to be like me. So she will always need protection. I was hoping you could help.”
“Yes. I’ll protect her, I promise, always.” - ―Charles Hinton and Daisy Johnson
Johnson arrived at Transia Corporation building and entered the building. She went to a room and took a deep breath before entering the room and fighting the HYDRA agents. After she knocked them out she looked at a one-way mirror. Phil Coulson suddenly appeared and pulled his gun. At first, Johnson thought he aimed at her but he shot at the mirror and killed the HYDRA agent behind it. Coulson told her she needed to go to the rooftop and rescue Charles Hinton from there. Johnson asked what he was going to do and to her surprise, he told her he was going after Grant Ward.
Johnson arrived at the rooftop and saw Hinton brought to a helicopter, when suddenly Gideon Malick hit her with the Transia Corporation Exoskeleton. Johnson tired to use her power against him but she missed. Malick punched her several times until Hinton touched him. At Malick chucked him, Johnson used her power to flip him, destroying the exoskeleton. Hinton fell next to her and Johnson said she thought she was meant to save him, to which Hinton was happy to know he had changed to future. Johnson brought him his bird made of wood he had mad, and Hinton said he made it for his daughter. He told her he was afraid her Inhumans power would turn to be horrific. He asked Johnson to protect her in the future so Johnson agreed to help her. Johnson accidentally touch Hinton and saw another vision of a S.H.I.E.L.D. who dies in an explosion inside a Quinjet in space. Hinton apologized and died.[58]
Secrets Revealed
- “There’s something I have to tell you. I got another glimpse into the future. And I don’t know when, but someone on our team is gonna die.”
- ―Daisy Johnson to Lincoln Campbell
Back at the Playground, Johnson was with Leo Fitz, Jemma Simmonsand Alphonso Mackenzie in the lab and examined the skeletons they had founded in Transia Corporation. They learned that Hive had returned from Maveth inside Grant Ward‘s corpse. Johnson and the others were called for a meeting with Phil Coulson to discuss what they had witnessed at the Transia Corporation. They discussed how the being they had encountered was not Ward, although Johnson said he was creepy as him, and set up a plan to defeat their enemy. Johnson and Lincoln Campbell however were given their own mission which Campbell would take charge of to find a former ally of his.
While onboard the Quinjet, Johnson was thinking about the last vision she had seen in Transia Corporation building. Campbell explained that the Inhuman they were going to meet had never been granted powers while he was at Afterlife, explaining that during his time at Afterlife, JT James had been caught stealing by Jiaying and was banished without powers while ranting about an Inhuman who could raise the dead. Johnson was warned by Campbell about James.
Johnson and Campbell soon tracked down James in South Dakota where he was living in a hut surrounded by barbed wire. James greeted them on a loud speaker and rudely told him to leave. They entered and James stepped out with a rifle and warned them not to take another step as they would regret it, Johnson did step closer and accidentally stepped on a land-mine which James had placed down. Although Campbell insisted he was not there to fight, James claimed he had been waiting for Jiaying to send someone after him, although he’d always assumed it would be Gordon, clearly unaware of their deaths. Johnson used a shockwave to push the land-mine in place while she and Campbell stepped away to safety until they dived back to avoid the explosion. James continued to mock them, Johnson responded by sending a shockwave through the ground which caused all his land-mines to exploded at the same time. Furious at the attack, James grabbed his gun only for Campbell to fire a blast of electricity at him which sent James flying backwards and knocked him out. Johnson and Campbell then took James inside his hut and laid him on his sofa, waiting for him to wake up so he could be questioned.
When James finally awoke Campbell told him they only needed information about what he had stolen from Afterlife and what he knew about Hive. Johnson told him that Jiaying was dead and they were now working for S.H.I.E.L.D. but James still refused to give up any information in exchange for nothing, so for Johnson surprise, Campbell revealed that he had brought one of the Terrigen Crystals and offered it in exchange for what they wanted, promising to give James powers. James revealed to them that he had stolen a Kree Orb, which he explained that Hive had stolen while battling the Kree Empire with his army of Inhumans, telling them that he believed that Jiaying had no right to keep this information from them. When James demanded the Crystal, Campbell stole the Orb and threw it to Johnson. As Johnson and Campbell were leaving, James reminded told Johnson that Campbell had almost killed his last girlfriend.
Back on the Quinjet, Johnson demanded an explanation from Campbell about what James had said about almost killing his girlfriend, threatening to end their relationship if he was not honest. Campbell relented and told her how before undergoing Terrigenesishe had tried to fill his emptiness with alcohol and during one night of rage and drinking, he had driven his car with his girlfriend beside it and crashed into a telephone pole, nearly killing her before he was found by Gordon. Campbell apologized for not telling the whole truth and promised that he would never hurt her. Johnson then told Campbell that Charles Hinton had given her a vision of the future and that one member of their team was going to die soon, but she did not know who or how. As they prepared to leave and return to the Playground, suddenly they received a message from a wounded Melinda May that Giyerahad hijacked Zephyr One. Knowing that they had to do something, although Johnson’s feared, they decided it was time to bring together the Secret Warriors to save their teammates from HYDRA.[59]
Swayed by Hive
- “Daisy, he’s using you! You’re You’re sick!”
“No. I’m happier than I’ve ever been. You get it. You’ve felt an emptiness your entire life, like me. We’ve tried to fill it, but it never works. I found the answer and it’s beautiful.” - ―Lincoln Campbell and Daisy Johnson
Once the Secret Warriors was onboard, Johnson ordered the Quinjetto fly to Schoonebeek Oil Field, HYDRA‘s base. There, she split her team, sending Joey Gutierrez and Elena Rodriguez to find Zephyr One and free it while she hacked HYDRA’s computer system. However, as she worked, Johnson was confronted by Hive. Shocked to see the dark Inhuman, she did not react in time as Hive infected her with his powers. Immediately, Johnson felt as if she had filled an emptiness inside her, believing that Hive could give her the family she had always longed for and wanting nothing more than to serve him. Johnson told Hive of the Kree Orb in S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s possession, and he ordered her to retrieve it and bring it to him. With her new mission, Johnson returned to her team in time to stop Giyera from killing Gutierrez. She joined the Secret Warriors and the rescued S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and escaped the HYDRA base, returning to the Playground to follow her new orders.
Lincoln Campbell had captured Gideon Malick during the operation; Phil Coulson interrogated him, and he gave up the locations of every single HYDRA base he was aware of. Shortly after this, Johnson entered the interrogation room, having been ordered to kill Malick. Malick did not even resist, knowing that this had been inevitable, and Johnson fired a powerful shockwave that crushed Malick to death. To cover up the cause of death, Johnson destroyed the body with a bomb. Coulson realized that one of the Inhumans at the Playground had been infected by Hive; as a result, he ordered the base locked down. Knowing Coulson would determine the traitor eventually, Johnson framed Campbell, blacking out the base in an imitation of his powers and planting the Kree Orb in his locker.
Once S.H.I.E.L.D. had imprisoned Campbell and all the Inhumans and released the base from lockdown, Coulson told her he disband the Secret Warriors. Johnson managed to sneak out of the room and stole the Kree Orb and many Terrigen Crystals to bring to Hive. She visited Campbell in the Containment Module and tried to convince him to run away with her. When Campbell refused, Johnson revealed that she had been infected, infuriating Campbell, who tried to reason with Johnson. Unable to resist Hive’s sway, Johnson ignored Campbell and left the room. As she left the base to return to Hive, Johnson caused a powerful earthquake, leaving the base temporarily crippled.[60]
Kidnapping of Holden Radcliffe
- “We don’t want to hurt you any of you. But we will. This is your last warning. Next time, I snap your neck.”
- ―Daisy Johnson to Leo Fitz
Johnson went to her favorite place where Hive waited for her. They discussed why she had enjoyed the spot and Johnson told him that she was a different person now while Hive told her that Grant Wardwas fond of her, despite Johnson insisting that she was glad he was dead. Johnson told Hive that being under his control had finally filled the emptiness within her. Once Johnson had shown Hive the Kree Orb and Terrigen Crystals she had stolen, they discussed if S.H.I.E.L.D. would come looking for her, Johnson told him that Phil Coulson believed that she needed protecting and did not know how strong she really was. Johnson told Hive about the emptiness she had felt her whole life and about Jiaying and Calvin Zabo. Hive explained that they were connected now and they were going to end the war that the humans had started and turn Earth into the peaceful home that the Inhumans deserved. Johnson then rested her head on Hive’s shoulder as he held her close.
Johnson and Hive first went to Alisha Whitley, whom they knew would be targeted by Coulson, and left her doubles to ambush Lincoln Campbell and the rest of the team sent to protect her. With Whitley by their side, Johnson and Hive then went to speak to JT James, who mocked Johnson and questioned if she had broken up with Campbell. Hive then revealed himself and demanded the rest of the Kree Orb; when James refused they dropped a Terrigen Crystal, which filled the room with Terrigen Mist and forced him to undergo Terrigenesis. James emerged from his cocoon with the power to create fireballs, so Hive used his power to tame James’s suffering and put him under his control. Johnson helped Hive to find a device buried under James’ house which Hive said it was dangerous to him.
Johnson went with Hive’s team to Bucharest to kidnap Holden Radcliffe. Johnson broke into his lab where Leo Fitz was present. After Whitley took Radcliffe, Johnson used her powers to chuck Fitz and said that although she cared about her friends in S.H.I.E.L.D., she would kill them if they would come after her. She also warned him about someone in S.H.I.E.L.D. that would die. She left him and returned to Hive. Later, Johnson came with Hive and his team to Union City which he owned.[61]
Union City
- “I know this is hard for you to hear, but this is me. I’m not lost anymore. Everyone at S.H.I.E.L.D. can finally stop trying to save me.”
- ―Daisy Johnson to Alphonso Mackenzie
In Union City, Johnson and Hive took a walk down the street. They discussed their respective creators, Johnson’s being S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hive’s being the Kree. Shortly following, Hive brought in the remainder of the HYDRAinner circle to be test subjects in the rebooted Kree experiments. Johnson and Hive watched as Radcliffe’s experiment melted the faces off the test subjects. Radcliffe realized that he needed living Kree DNA in order to make the experiment work, much to Hive’s disappointment. While Hive and Radcliffe attempted to figure out a new way to make the experiment work, Johnson and Hellfire drank beer and played pinball. Eventually, Hellfire questioned how Johnson could still love Lincoln Campbell, even though he was helping S.H.I.E.L.D.’s attempts to stop Hive and the swayed Inhumans.
Johnson, under Hive’s influence, believed that she could save everyone at S.H.I.E.L.D. by turning them into swayed Inhumans. Johnson rejoined Hive as they once again discussed their creators, and whether or not Johnson could destroy what created her: S.H.I.E.L.D. Johnson told Hive her plan to save her friends, but Hive questioned what she would do if they did not comply; Johnson responded that she would rip their hearts out. The two heard an explosion, and Johnson questioned if it was S.H.I.E.L.D.; however, Hive responded that it was in fact the Kree, whom he had summoned so that he could meet Radcliffe’s requirements of Kree blood.
Johnson baited one of the Kree Reapers into the experiment room using her powers. At first, Johnson was battered by the Reaper, thrown into a gurney by the alien’s superior strength. However, Johnson eventually won the fight by breaking most of the bones in the Kree’s body, and then ordering Radcliffe to drain it. Just as the drain begins, Alphonso Mackenzie arrived to try and save Johnson. Johnson continued to insist that she did not need to be saved, taking emotional jabs at Mackenzie and the rest of her former team.
Eventually, Mackenzie realized there was nothing he can do to save her at the moment, and used a Splinter Bomb to destroy the Kree body. This infuriated Johnson, as she began to unleash her martial arts and powers onto Mackenzie. Though Mackenzie refused to fight back, Johnson continued her attack, furious that she had failed Hive and that Mackenzie had been the cause. Eventually, Johnson pinned Mackenzie on the ground and attempts to rip his heart out. However, Melinda May arrived and shot Johnson in the arm, saving Mackenzie.
Johnson regained consciousness, with Hive scolding her for being unable to secure enough Kree blood for the experiment. Johnson responded by reminding Hive that she had Kree blood running through her veins, and offered to drain herself for the experiment to work.[62]
Saved by Lash
- “Ragtag base, come in. This is Agent Daisy Johnson. I’m coming home. Repeat, I’m coming home.”
- ―Daisy Jonson
Johnson hacked S.H.I.E.L.D. and watched video feed of Lincoln Campbell while her blood was being drained. Hive entered the room, and the two discussed Campbell until Leo Fitz discovered Johnson’s hack and blocked her from viewing. Johnson’s blood continued to drain until Holden Radcliffe entered to check on her. Johnson was allowed to rest while Hive and Radcliffe continued their experiments.
Seeking to reach Campbell once more and convince him to join her and Hive, Johnson tried once more to hack S.H.I.E.L.D., succeeding and once more seeing Campbell. To her shock, he spoke to the room, asking if she was watching. Johnson immediately hijacked the room’s television and informed Campbell that she was. Once she had fed the camera a loop of Campbell sleeping, Johnson took over the video feed and was able to speak to Campbell. Johnson tried again to reach Campbell, wanting so much to have him join Hive that she lied to him, telling him that if he left the Playground, she would meet him and they would go away together. Campbell agreed, and Johnson began planning his escape from the Playground.
Johnson formed a plan for Campbell to leave; first instructing him to knock out his guard and take his earpiece so that she could advise him continually. Once Campbell was free of the Containment Module, she took him through the base to the Quinjet dock. Johnson lost contact with Campbell briefly, but regained it as Campbell reached the Quinjet and turned off the earpiece. Johnson turned to see Hive behind her; she informed him that Campbell was coming. Though Johnson felt guilty for lying to Campbell, Hive reassured her before taking her to see the newly transformed Primitives. Hive explained that to make more Primitives, Johnson would be drained of the rest of her blood, to which Johnson agreed, knowing that serving the dark Inhuman was all she wished to do.
As Johnson was being escorted away by Radcliffe, she realized that Hive was in trouble; knowing he had gone to welcome Campbell, she went to find him. Once she reached Hive Johnson was shocked to see Lash instead of Campbell. Seeing her leader threatened by the monstrous Inhuman, Johnson fired a shockwave, only to find that she was weak from the draining that it had no effect on Lash. Collapsing, Johnson could only watch as Lash came towards her. However, Lash had no intention of killing her; his energy blast only served to draw Hive’s parasites from her body, leaving her free from the dark Inhuman’s control. Lash picked Johnson up and carried her to the Quinjet, telling her that she was now free and could return to S.H.I.E.L.D., but as he lay her down, Hellfire arrived and used his flaming chain to kill Lash.
Johnson sat with Lash as he died, comforting him in the knowledge that he had saved her. Despite her weakened state, Johnson managed to fly the Quinjet away from Hive and returned to S.H.I.E.L.D.. She was taken into custody as the Quinjet touched down and brought to the lab for medical testing, where Jemma Simmonsdeclared she was free from Hive’s control.[63]
Guilt
Revenge on Hive
- “You know killing me won’t make the pain go away.”
“I don’t want you to die. I want you to suffer.”
“It seems you’re the one who’s suffering. I’m sorry you won’t feel our connection, pieces solving a puzzle, but we must continue without you.” - ―Hive and Daisy Johnson
Johnson still recovering got an update from Jemma Simmons, Phil Coulson, and then Alphonso Mackenzie came to talk to her telling her that Hive has been successfully captured. While Simmons remained somewhat neutral towards her, Coulson and Mackenzie attempted to convince her that what she did to the S.H.I.E.L.D. team was not her fault. Even so, Johnson still believed that she needed to be locked up indefinitely. Johnson later found out that Hive had escaped with the help of former S.H.I.E.L.D. agents now turned into Primitives by Giyera and Hellfire. Johnson realized that she had told Hive everything about S.H.I.E.L.D., including the capabilities of the Zephyr One, which Hive could now use to distribute the Inhuman gas. Johnson activated the elevator underneath the containment module, bringing her into the Zephyr One cargo bay.
Johnson exited the Containment Module onto the cargo bay of the Zephyr One, calling out to Hive who was still feeling the effects of the memory machine. Hive turned around as he realizes why Johnson came to confront him. She confirmed this by kneeling on the floor and begging him to take her back under his control.[64] As Hive attempted to infect Johnson’s mind again, he was taken aback muttering that something was wrong. Johnson questions what S.H.I.E.L.D. had done to him, but Hive replied that it was not S.H.I.E.L.D., but Lash who had made her mind impervious to him.
Johnson, filled with rage began causing an earthquake, before beginning to focus her powers onto Hive. Johnson and Hive began fighting all over the hanger, with Johnson using a combination of her S.H.I.E.L.D. skills and her powers. Eventually, Johnson got a knife and begins stabbing Hive multiple times, commenting that she wanted him to suffer. Hive realized that Johnson herself was suffering, and that the knife was doing nothing to him. Johnson dropped the knife and began using her powers to break multiple bones in Hive’s body. However, Hive simply stood up and told her that bones were not what supports his structure, but multiple parts working as one. At this moment, Giyera and Hellfire arrived on an old HYDRA ship along with the warhead. This distracted Johnson long enough for Hive to render her unconscious. Hive put her in the Containment Module and used brute force to fly the Zephyr One out of the Playground.[65]
Escape from the Containment Module
- “Someone will be in that Quinjet with the warhead.”
“Only if I have to.”
“Do not go in there. That thing will fly itself if nobody touches the controls. I know. I know. I… I know what you’re thinking. You said you can’t live with what you’ve done, but you have to.” - ―Lincoln Campbell and Daisy Johnson
Johnson awoke to find herself trapped inside the containment module, guarded by an Primitive. Just as the Primitive made its way around the cargo bay, Melinda May took it out from under the floor of the Zephyr One. May and Leo Fitz climbed out of the floor and Fitz begins to open the containment module. Johnson stopped him, as she told him that she did not want nor deserved to be freed. May was fed up with Johnson’s stubbornness and reminded her that Andrew Garner had died for her, and said that she could either live in a box for the rest of her life or help them take down Hive. Just as May was about to get sentimental with Johnson, she was taken out by Giyera.
Giyera used his powers to take an automatic weapon from across the room and aimed it at Fitz. Shaking, Fitz claimed to have a weapon designed to kill Giyera, and that he would not see it coming. Giyera, having swept the Zephyr, did not believe Fitz and readied the gun to fire. Johnson tried to distract Giyera by reminding him that they share a connection, but Giyera knew that was no longer true. Fitz told Giyera once more that he had a hidden weapon on the Zephyr, and that he would be willing to show him if he allowed Fitz to put the tool in his hand down. Fitz slowly put the tool down, and slowly raised back up telling Giyera that he knew swayed Inhumans were not bad people. When Fitz was fully upright, he recanted his previous statement because Giyera had been a murderous swine before he was swayed. As Ftiz said this, he shot Giyera three times in the chest with a Cloaked Gun, much to both Johnson and Giyera’s surprise.
Fitz, clearly shaken, freed Johnson from her containment module and, together, they brought May into one of the Zephyr’s rooms. May claimed that she was fine, however, Johnson was pale and short of breath. Fitz claimed this to be a combination of the high altitude and withdrawal effects, and covered Johnson in his S.H.I.E.L.D. jacket. As May and Fitz discussed their next move, Johnson found the rosary from her vision in the pocket of the jacket. In this moment, Johnson realized her destiny.
Johnson, Fitz and May moved to the upper deck of the Zephyr where they found Lincoln Campbell, Phil Coulson, Alphonso Mackenzie and Jemma Simmons who recently arrived at the Zephyr via Quinjet after fighting Primitives at the Playground. Johnson and Campbell saw each other and smile, but the moment was short lived as Johnson realizes that Hellfire placed an explosive on Campbell.
The team dragged Campbell down to the cargo bay, where Simmons assessed his wounds and determined that he will live. Johnson asked if she had ruined things between Campbell and herself, and Campbell replied that they needed to take time to work on themselves before they can work on their relationship. While Campbell and Johnson talked, Coulson explained to the rest of the team the plan to send the warhead to outer space using the autopilot function of the Quinjet. Johnson, knowing Coulson and having seen the vision also knew what Coulson planed to do. Campbell noticed the rosary around Johnson’s neck and realized that Johnson plans to end Hive’s plan by sacrificing herself.[65]
Lincoln’s Sacrifice
- “I can’t take it if you, you can’t do this!”
“I wouldn’t have thought so either but, here I am.”
“No you can’t, you can’t do this, not like this, I can’t just, I can’t just say goodbye! I, I have too much I want to say.” - ―Daisy Johnson and Lincoln Campbell
As Johnson moved the warhead from the command center to the Quinjet, she was greeted by Hive. With the warhead securely strapped into the Quinjet, Johnson decided that her purpose as an Inhuman was to sacrifice herself to take down Hive and save the world. As the Quinjet door began to close, Hive reminded her that Grant Ward could manually take control of the Quinjet.
Johnson saw a blood trail on the floor of the Quinjet leading to the pilot’s seat and looked up to see Lincoln Campbell. Campbell explained that he had fried the manual controls and, before Johnson could say anything, Campbell used his powers to push her out of the Quinjet as the door closed. Campbell released the Quinjet from the Zephyr One, sending it on a one way trip to space. Johnson, realizing what Campbell had just done, ran back to the command center and begged him not to continue with his plan. The team, who had defeated the Primitives, also arrived at the command center at this time. Campbell stated that this was his purpose, to save the girl he loves and the world at the same time. The communications between Johnson and Campbell ceased just as the Quinjet hit space and as Campbell was trying to tell Johnson that he loved her.
Johnson turned around and begged Phil Coulson to bring the Quinjet back, as it was unfair that Campbell was paying for her mistakes. Coulson replied that Campbell was paying for all of their mistakes, and that it was both not possible and not what Campbell wanted. On one of the screens, the team in the command center watched as the Quinjet exploded, and Johnson collapsed in tears.[65]
Outlaw Once Again
Becoming Quake
- “I actually wanted to introduce you to a friend of mine, he has a practice near here, I think you’d get along, he likes animals too.”
“You’re too kind.”
“I’m just keeping a promise.” - ―Daisy Johnson and Polly Hinton
Several months after Lincoln Campbell‘s self sacrifice, Johnson had already left S.H.I.E.L.D., and went on a vigilante quest which saw her topple banks to donate illegal funds to charities and save several lives in various disasters. These actions eventually led to Johnson earning herself the name Quake. Johnson was wanted by authorities for destruction of many buildings, and they wished to register her under the Sokovia Accords which she had rejected. Her activities as a vigilante made people question the effectiveness of the Sokovia Accords.[65]
Helping Yo-Yo
- “What the hell are you doing here? S.H.I.E.L.D. assigned you to go after that weapon?”
“No, they assigned me to paperwork. S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn’t know about this, I’m here for Ramon“ - ―Quake and Yo-Yo Rodriguez
Quake eventually tracked a deal between the Watchdogs and Victor Ramon, for the Peruvian 0-8-4 that S.H.I.E.L.D. had stolen years before. Quake traveled to Baltimore, Maryland where she found the Watchdogs, Ramon and Yo-Yo Rodriguez captured, while the Alpha Dog called on his men to kill the Inhumans. Quake then knocked Ramon out and saved Rodriguez, together they fought the Watchdogs and discovered that S.H.I.E.L.D. did not actually know that Rodriguez was there and that she was there to capture Ramon.
Remembering Ramon had murdered Francisco Rodriguez during the mission when she had first encountered Rogriguez, Quake accepted this reasoning and then told Rodriguez to go after Ramon, who was attempting to escape during the chaos. To give her cover, Quake continued to fire her shockwaves from her Quake Gauntlets while Rodriguez ran out the room and after Ramon. While Rodriguez had her showdown against Ramon, Quake fought against all of the remaining Watchdogs, using both her Inhuman shockwave powers and fighting skills to overpower all of them.[66]
Quake defeated the Watchdogs and when Rodriguez soon returned with the Peruvian 0-8-4 and with Ramon now dead. While they were speaking, a S.H.I.E.L.D. Quinjet arrived and Rodriguez told Quake that Phil Coulson and Alphonso Mackenzie were tracking her powers in order to locate her. When Rodriguez offered her help her vigilante quest, Quake declared that one Inhuman fugitive is enough, but that she would find Rodriguez if she needs help during her missions, later asking for some Rapid Bone-Healing Pills. Quake left the scene before she could be found by any of her former friends.[67]
Keeping a Promise
- “Do you like animals?”
“Yeah.”
“Your dad made this. It’s a robin, like you.” - ―Daisy Johnson and Robin Hinton
Her friends and allies Phil Coulson and Alphonso Mackenzie tried to capture Johnson; they managed to catch a glimpse of her, as she was meeting with the family of Charles Hinton. Polly Hinton thanked Johnson for the money, some of which she stole from a bank in Los Angeles that she ultimately destroyed, and help that she had provided for them, with Johnson explaining that she was keeping a promise. Johnson knelt down and gave Robin Hinton the robin that Charles had carved.
Johnson told Polly that she had a veterinarian friend that she would like them to meet. Johnson decided to leave the conversation there, knowing that S.H.I.E.L.D. was closed on her tail and walked into an empty alleyway. Johnson used her powers to escape as she fired a shockwave underneath her feet and launched herself onto a nearby rooftop. Coulson and Mackenzie, who knew that they now had little chance of finding her, decided to continue their search another time, despite the new Director Jeffrey Mace ordering them to stop due to their constant failure to find and capture Quake.[65]
Encountering Ghost Rider
Daisy Johnson confronted the Aryan Brotherhood who had stolen some mysterious cargo. She bested M. Scott in a fight, only for the latter to fall on the ground asking the former to help him and telling her that he got him. Suddenly, there was a mysterious car coming towards the way. Seeing this, R. Moore fired a rocket launcher to the car, but it didn’t stop the car. The car then jumped up high and got back to the road with fire on it. It came pushing through the very truck the men were in. Fire was spread around the area where the men are. A man with a flaming skull attacked and killed R. Moore and D. Anderson by breaking their skulls, kidnapped T.Mitchell, put him into the baggage of his own car and escaped. Quake saw this in confusion, Hearing the police sirens, Quake made her escape.
Johnson went into town to learn about the Ghost Rider. There, she saw graffiti on the wall made by Felix of the Rider. Felix explained a bit about the Ghost Rider telling her of how he killed two more criminals last night. When Johnson asked for more information about the Ghost Rider, Felix correctly assumed she wasn’t from the neighborhood.[68]
Duel at El Monte Junk and Salvage
- “You don’t get to decide who deserves to die.”
“I’m not the one who decides.” - ―Quake and Ghost Rider
Johnson met Robbie Reyes, who was closing up the garage of his car in El Monte Junk and Salvage and said she was looking for man who owned a 1969 Dodge Charger and thinking the owner might have bought the parts for his car there. Knowing Johnson was looking for him and remembering her the other night as Quake, he lied that he didn’t know anyone by her description and said that he worked on nights only. Daisy decided to come back the next morning and thanked Reyes. Reyes, who upon realizing Daisy might expose him, if she came back and sensed that she was a threat decided to subdue Reyes as well to get her out of the situation. Offering her the chance to look inside the main office; a trailer, as to show her a book of sales. Johnson accepted and Reyes took her to check in the place.
Once he showed her the place, he got out his car keys out of his pocket and started tossing them making a rattling sound. Reyes started distracting Johnson by asking her if she lived around here, only for her to replied that she used to and is in town for a couple of days. He then replied by saying it is a strange place to spend her vacation and that it is not a great neighborhood. Johnson, who on hearing the rattling sound Reyes is making with his keys and remembering hearing the same sound from the other night, turned around and attacked Reyes realizing he was Ghost Rider. Reyes tried to incapacitate her, but Quake used her powers to throw Reyes backwards into a van. Getting back up, Reyes grabbed a long metal pole and lit it on fire. He then asked Quake if she had the devil inside of her and the two of them faced off.
Eventually, Quake managed to best Reyes and pin him to a barrier, all the while using her powers to hold him in place. Reyes then told her that she shouldn’t have got involved in the situation with Quake replied serial killers like him always complained when stopped. He then explained that he only kills people who deserved punishment and that it was vengeance. Quake then listed Robbie’s victims such as the detective and teacher. Laughing Reyes revealed that the detective had blood on his hands and was dirty. Quake then hit Robbie giving a cut on his face and asking about he teacher, Thomas Wright only for him explain to her that Wright was a pedophile and head butted her in the face. Quake kicked him to the ground and told him, he did not have the right to decide who lived or died.
Reyes then explained to her that he wasn’t the one who decided and transformed into Ghost Rider. Quake looked shocked on seeing his appearance. Ghost Rider then grabbed a steel beam from a car, en-flamed it, and tried using it as a weapon towards Quake only for her to use her powers to get the weapon out of his hands by tossing it backwards in the air and keeping Ghost Rider at bay, as she knew a single burn from him would proved to be fatal. Ghost Rider then furiously punched her in the torso making her fall to the ground. He then threw a large steel cabinet shelf down on top of her, only for Quake to use her powers to stop the cabinet from falling on her. Laying defenseless on the ground and knowing she did not have enough strength to push the cabinet backwards into the air, Quake begged the Ghost Rider to kill her, as she still felt remorse for the death of Lincoln Campbell, But Ghost Rider just left her having looked into her soul and determining she did not deserve death, even though Quake felt she did. Quake then rolled away just in time for the cabinet shelf to fall in her place. She felt one of her bones had been broken while using her powers and examined it at the same time, while hearing Reyes getting away.[68]
Tracking The Rider
- “You got a death wish. Coming back to find me after I let you live.”
- ―Ghost Rider to Quake
The next day, Johnson tracked down Robbie Reyes and observed him helping his younger brother Gabe, realizing that Reyes had someone he loved and was close to. Quake followed him to Canelo’s Auto and Body, and interrogated the people who worked with Reyes, pretending to know him as a former classmate. Johnson justified her presence there by saying that her van had burst into flame the night before. While Reyes examined her van, Quake talked with him about his victims who were not totally innocent. However, Reyes threatened her and ordered her to leave. As he did not find any problem on Johnson’s van, she used her powers to do some damage on it in order to stay there a bit longer.
They discussed about the Watchdogs but Reyes denied the fact that being Inhuman, although Johnson found hard to believe that he actually sold his soul to the devil. After Canelo left them alone and Quake angered Reyes by mentioning his brother Gabe, the two vigilantes began to fight. Very weakened by her injuries Quake was knocked out. She woke up tied up to a chair, with Reyes searching any proof of guilt in her belongings. When Quake mentioned the name of Momentum Labs, Reyes quickly left after gagging her. Quake painfully broke free of her ties and followed him by jumping onto his car. However, Reyes managed to get rid of her.
Quake went to Momentum Labs, where she found Alphonso Mackenzie and Leo Fitz while they were confronting the ghost Frederick along the Ghost Rider. After the Ghost Rider killed Frederick, Mackenzie aimed at him, but Quake told her former colleague to let him go. Quake was brought aboard a Quinjet and Mackenzie banded her broken arm. Mackenzie figured out that Quake was being supplied medicines by Yo-Yo Rodriguez and Fitz angrily confronted her about leaving S.H.I.E.L.D.. Quake then left and she was found by Reyes, who told him that he thought he was the one linking all the recent deaths. Therefore, Quake got in the Hell Charger to investigate the matter with him.[69]
Los Angeles Blackout
- “You know what happens to people during a blackout? They think they can get away with whatever they want.”
“That nothing can stop them.” - ―Robbie Reyes and Daisy Johnson
Ghost Rider intended to visit his uncle Eli Morrow in South Ridge Penitentiary and Quake revealed that he knew Morrow had been charged with manslaughter. The conversation was however interrupted when a blackoutsecretly orchestrated by the Watchdogs occurred in Los Angeles. Ghost Rider and Quake drove further and Quake tried to determine the true nature of her new ally. They found Robbie Reyes‘ little brother Gabe moments before he was attacked by thugs. Ghost Rider and Quake engaged the fight against the thugs and when one of them held a gun at Gabe, Quake used her powers to take him down. Once the thugs were defeated, Quake and the Reyes brothers left for the Reyes Residence.
Being wounded since she was using her powers without her Gauntlets, Quake asked the Ghost Rider how he managed things when he got hurt while chasing criminals, but he told her that his powers were enough to make him heal fast. The Ghost Rider then left the Residence, leaving Quake with Gabe after warning Quake that Gabe did not know about the Ghost Rider.
Quake and Gabe discussed about the lives of the Reyes brothers and Gabe voiced his worries about what his brother was up to when he went out at night. When the power came back in Los Angeles, Gabe told Quake that he knew who she really was and that although he would not tell anyone about it, he did not want Quake to be near his brother out of fear that she could have wrong influence on him. Therefore, Quake agreed to leave the Reyes Residence and returned to her personal quest.[70]
Hellfire’s Betrayal
Quake kept fighting against the Watchdogs. During one confrontation, she managed to steal a list of some Inhumans targeted by the hate group they had obtained by hacking into S.H.I.E.L.D. servers. In dire need of medical attention because of the wound she got in the process and of the assistance of a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Quake tricked Jemma Simmons into visiting an apartment where Quake awaited her. After Simmons tended to Quake’s wounds, Quake explained that the Watchdogs were tapping into S.H.I.E.L.D. servers and that she needed access as well. Simmons reluctantly agreed to help her.
Thanks to Simmons’ high position within S.H.I.E.L.D., Quake got access to S.H.I.E.L.D.’s files. Quake and Simmons suspected that Hellfire was the Watchdogs’ next target and decided to take him into safety. They went to Primed and Ready Fireworks where Hellfire was working and convinced him to follow them. Hellfire told them to wait for him in the storage boxes. However, when Hellfire finally arrived, he revealed that he was actually working with the Watchdogs in their extermination of Inhumans as he was disgusted by them, including himself. Soon, Quake and Simmons were surrounded by hostile Watchdogs.
Quake used her powers to take their enemies down and she and Simmons hid in one storage box. Hellfire found them and intended to strike them with a flaming chain, but he was stopped by the Ghost Rider, who had come to the store along with Phil Coulson and Alphonso Mackenzie. While the Ghost Rider fought Hellfire, Quake and Simmons found Coulson and Mackenzie and exited the store right before the fireworks were lit on fire, causing the place to explode.
Quake went to the Zephyr One with the Ghost Rider. Coulson came to them and requested their assistance for finding the Darkhold. Although Quake was reluctant as she was keen on keeping attacking the Watchdogs, she eventually agreed to help Coulson.[71]
South Ridge Penitentiary Riot
- “That was suicidal and stupid.”
“You weren’t supposed to come back for me.”
“We just saved your life!”
“You risked your own! I never asked for that.” - ―Melinda May and Quake
Though she agreed to help S.H.I.E.L.D., Quake still insisted on remaining alone and isolated herself in the Zephyr One. She was joined by Ghost Rider and told him that he should trust S.H.I.E.L.D. Later, Quake was informed that Phil Coulson and Melinda May where trapped in South Ridge Penitentiary, where Lucy Bauer had infected the staff who suffered from demon psychosis. Therefore, Quake joined an assault team with Ghost Rider and Alphonso Mackenzie to help Coulson and May and find Eli Morrow, who they needed to find the Darkhold. To that end, Quake equipped herself with new gauntlets.
Along with Agents Prince and Davis, Quake found Coulson and May. Quake, Coulson and May then made their way through the prison to get to Morrow’s cell. However, they were stopped by Bauer who opened the cells’ doors, releasing the prisoners and causing a riot. They fled and reached the prison’s cafeteria where Quake chose to remain behind against Coulson’s and May’s will as she had discovered that many prisoners were Watchdogs recruits, meaning she had a personal reason to fight them.
Quake fiercely fought against the prisoners, taking down several of them before being outnumbered. As one of them was choking her to death, Coulson and May returned and rescued her, although Quake made it clear that she did not wanted them to. Since Leo Fitz told them that Mackenzie had found Morrow, they decided to leave the prison. Once outside, however, they discovered that Morrow was missing as he had been kidnapped by Bauer.
Back to the Playground, Quake remained alone in a Quinjet. May found her and told her that her whole plan of trying to get away from her friends for their own safety and risking her life was pointless, as Coulson would never give up on her and Lincoln Campbell would not have approved her decision. Quake replied that she only agreed to help S.H.I.E.L.D. until they found the Darkhold and that she would leave after that. Once May departed, however, Quake burst into tears.[72]
Good Samaritan Story
- “Who was this guy?”
“Don’t know. Never saw him. Just some good Samaritan. He stopped, saved us, and moved on.” - ―Quake and Gabe Reyes
Quake left to pick up Gabe Reyes and took him to the Zephyr One so he could be reunited with his brother Robbie and pretended that Robbie was actually a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, much to Gabe’s amazement. Quake and Robbie also revealed that Eli Morrow had been abducted and that Gabe had been taken to the Zephyr One for his own safety.
As Director Jeffrey Mace joined the Zephyr One to arrest Quake and the Ghost Rider, Alphonso Mackenzieinstructed them and Gabe to go into the plane’s Containment Module, which was taken down right beneath the plane’s floor so that Mace could not find them.
Gabe asked them why they had to hide from the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. if Robbie was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Quake tried to explain the situation, but Robbie decided that he could not lie to his brother and told him the full story of how he became the brutal vigilante known as the Ghost Rider. Quake carefully listened to his story as well.
However, they were ultimately found by Mace, who had the Containment Module taken back on the Zephyr. Upon hearing that S.H.I.E.L.D. had intel about his uncle, Robbie transformed into the Ghost Rider and Quake could not keep Gabe from witnessing the transformation. As the Ghost Rider broke free of the Containment Module and began fighting Mace, Quake tried to take Gabe away, but Gabe insisted on staying and seeing the fight. After Gabe managed to calm his brother down, he asked Quake to take him somewhere else on the plane.
As S.H.I.E.L.D. stormed the Roxxon Power Plant, Quake remained in the Zephyr One to ensure communications. However, Quake was unable to hack into the plant’s systems since they were not connected to the network. The more the S.H.I.E.L.D. team progressed into the plant, the more the communications were unstable and Quake ultimately lost contact with her colleagues, leaving them to face Morrow’s betrayal on their own.[73]
Keeping Faith
- “You really think he’s not gone?”
“I know the feeling when someone’s gone, and I don’t feel that now.” - ―Gabe Reyes and Quake
Quake watched the footage of Leo Fitz, Phil Coulson and Robbie Reyes vanishing in the air after Eli Morrowactivated his Quantum Particle Generator. However, she refused to believe that they were dead, recalling all the strange events they had lived or heard about, be it the Resurrection of Phil Coulson, the Rescue of Jemma Simmons from Maveth or the existence of the Ghost Rider. Quake suggested to call Jemma Simmons for help, to which Jeffrey Mace agreed.
Quake comforted Gabe Reyes following the loss of his brother, telling Gabe that Robbie loved him and that Gabe was what kept Robbie grounded. Then, they watched in astonishment as Alphonso Mackenzie abruptly left the Zephyr One with his motor bike. Deciding to figure out what was happening, Quake took the Hell Charger and chased Mackenzie in Los Angeles, unaware that the Spirit of Vengeance had taken Mackenzie’s body and that Robbie was sitting next to her in his transdimensional state, although she somehow felt his presence.
Following Mackenzie through the city, Quake arrived to the Chinatown Crew Hideout, where she took down several thugs before joining Mackenzie who was talking with Robbie, although Quake could not see the latter. When Quake told Mackenzie to come back with them, she saw her friend turning into the Ghost Rider and moving towards her. However, Mackenzie stopped as the Spirit of Vengeance returned into Robbie’s body and returned to his normal condition.
A worried Quake tried to know what had happened, saying that she had overheard Mackenzie telling that he was suffering. Despite that, Mackenzie reassured her and informed her that Robbie and the Spirit of Vengeance had gone to Hell. They then returned to the Playground, where Quake told Coulson and Melinda May about what had happened to Mackenzie and Robbie.[74]
Battle at the Chinatown Crew Headquarters
- “Time-out. “Fail safe”, “supercritical mass”. Are you guys talking about what I think you’re talking about?”
“Eli’s made his way through the periodic table, all the way to plutonium.” - ―Quake and Phil Coulson
Quake took part in S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s final assault against Eli Morrow. She teamed up with Yo-Yo Rodriguez and the Ghost Rider as the first strike team, but Rodriguez activated a trap while doing a recon, which caused a massive explosion. Quake helped Rodriguez and took her back to the other S.H.I.E.L.D. agent while the Ghost Rider went into the Chinatown Crew Headquarters to face Morrow. Along with Phil Coulson, Quake watched the feed of Ghost Rider’s body cam. Thus, she saw the giant Quantum Battery built by Morrow.
When Morrow arrived to confront his nephew, the video feed was cut, prompting Quake to leave and help Reyes. Coulson advised her against it, since they were trying to keep her involvement in the assault undisclosed. Moreover, the team was called back to the Zephyr One by Jemma Simmons and Leo Fitz, who explained that Morrow had rigged the Quantum Battery with a Demon Core, which could trigger a nuclear explosion. To avoid such a catastrophe, S.H.I.E.L.D. needed a new plan.
While S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Jeffrey Mace explained his plan to Coulson, Quake had Fitz check her gauntlets, which were perfectly adapted to Quake. Fitz also told Quake that they had the proof she was not to blame for the multiple earthquakes recorded around Los Angeles. While discussing with Fitz and Simmons, Quake also learned about the Inhuman Senator Ellen Nadeer was keeping hidden and that Mace knew about it. The conversation was interrupted when Quake felt another earthquake coming and Fitz figured out that Morrow was somewhat stealing energy from another dimension.
Quake confronted Mace about her association with Nadeer. However, Mace rebuffed her and Coulson’s critic. In the end, they agreed to let their divergences in opinion aside so that they could stop Morrow. While Coulson confronted Morrow, Quake teamed up with Fitz, Simmons, Holden Radcliffe and Aida to build an Inter-Dimensional Gate right underneath Morrow’s battery. Quake’s role was to absorb all the earthquakes erupting because of Morrow’s actions. She successfully did so, but ended up absorbing much more seismic waves.
In order to release all the seismic energy she had stored, Quake ran out of the building and released the seismic waves, which propelled her high in the sky, well above the buildings. Upon landing, Quake was found by a horde of reporters who harassed her with questions until Mace intervened, officially acknowledging Quake as an undercover S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Quake agreed to play along. [75]
Returning To S.H.I.E.L.D.
In From The Cold
- “Now that we’re all gathered, I’d like to present Agent Johnson with something. Your official lanyard. It’s just a shame Agent Koenigcouldn’t be here.”
“Level blue.”
“Thrilling, isn’t it?”
“What does that mean?”
“We have no idea.” - ―Jemma Simmons, Quake and Leo Fitz
Back to the Playground following S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s victory over Eli Morrow and the Ghost Rider‘s disappearance, Quake and Phil Coulson had a talk about the recent events. Quake recognized that she missed some things in S.H.I.E.L.D. and was shocked upon learning that Coulson had actually considered her for becoming the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Quake laughed at the idea, claiming that this would only happen in a comic book version.
Quake went to see her friends in the Playground’s common room, witnessing Alphonso Mackenzie‘s and Yo-Yo Rodriguez‘s first kiss in the process. Joining her friends, Quake was given a S.H.I.E.L.D. Lanyard, officially becoming a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and celebrating the event with her colleagues.[75]
Battling The Watchdogs
- “You want to tackle problems? The Watchdogs. Enemy number one. I believe they’re funded internationally. They have ties to people within the U.S. government.”
“I don’t want to chase conspiracy theories.”
“It’s not a theory if I can prove it.” - ―Daisy Johnson and Jeffrey Mace
Quake and Jemma Simmons discussed the Inhuman Simmons had helped with his Terrigenesis, who happened to be Vijay Nadeer, brother of the anti-S.H.I.E.L.D. and anti-Inhumans Senator Ellen Nadeer. Quake and Simmons inferred that the Senator was hiding her own brother from the public. Later, Burrows joined them and informed Quake that Director Jeffrey Mace wanted to see her.
Quake met with Mace in the aftermath of the Battle at the Chinatown Crew Headquarters. Despite their mutual distrust in each other, they agreed to set their disagreements aside and to collaborate in their fight against the Watchdogs. To that end, Quake told Mace that they had identified Vijay, prompting Mace to plan a rescue mission involving Quake, Simmons and himself. Together, they boarded a Quinjet and discussed their plan, which involved sending Simmons to the Capitol while Quake and Simmons monitored her conversation.
The team tracked down a call made by Ellen’s assistant Zach Bynumto the Nadeer Residence, where they confronted the Senator and her bodyguards. Quake recognized the weapons carried by the latter, which happened to be standard Watchdogs equipment. As Ellen refused to let the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents search her home, they prepared to leave but heard a gunshot. While Mace and Simmons looked for Vijay, Quake fought against the Watchdogs, overpowering them. Despite their best efforts, however, Vijay refused to follow S.H.I.E.L.D. and remained with his sister.[76]
Quake later journeyed to Sunbury, Pennsylvania, where a public ceremony was held to officially recognize her as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. As Michelle Caldwell, a citizen Quake had saved during the Collapse of the Edison Bridge, expressed her gratitude towards Quake and hugged her, Quake noticed a sniper aiming at Mace. Quake shielded Caldwell while Mace stopped the bullet. As Mace was evacuated, Quake used her powers to defeat the shooter, ex-HYDRA operative Yuri Zaikin.
Quake interrogated Zaikin, but to no avail, although Zaikin warned Quake and Melinda May LMD that the assassination attempt at Sunbury was only the first phase of their plan. Indeed, Quake was informed that the Quinjet carrying Mace, Phil Coulson and Alphonso Mackenzie was nowhere to be found. Following a rather unproductive talk with Glenn Talbot, who took the lead on the search, Quake boarded the Zephyr One with May LMD. As Quake did not know about the android’s nature, Quake and May’s LMD discussed about Coulson and Lola.
Agent Davis informed Quake and May LMD that they could not locate the Quinjet they were looking for. Later, they were contacted by Leo Fitz and Simmons who had successfully obtained answers from Zaikin and directed them to West Virginia. However, Quake also learned that Mace was not an Inhuman and that he could not be of help during the upcoming fight. Using the intel, Quake and May LMD managed to rescue Mace, Coulson and Mackenzie from their opponents. Back to the Playground, Quake informed May LMD that they had been called by Coulson in the Director’s office.[77]

Siege of the Playground
- “This is not a sacrifice play. You know why? Because I will beat them, you hear me? I know it, if for no other reason than this: through all the insane crap we have gone through, the one thing I’ve known without a doubt, the whole time, is that you and Fitzbelong together.”

Inside the Framework, Once Johnson and Melinda May had arrested Alphonso Mackenzie and his daughter, Hope Mackenzie, May interrogated Mackenzie, while Skye spoke to Hope. After she spoke to Hope, she went and talked to Mackenzie and he seemed to admit that he remembered the other world, but that was all a trick concocted by May to arrest Skye. She ran and almost made it to the exit before May cut her off. Several soldiers HYDRA apprehended her and kicked her into submission. Later when Mackenzie reunited with his daughter, they saw her being carried into a cell, bruised and bloodied. That pushed Mackenzie to join the resistance as a direct result.
Imprisoned at the Triskelion
- “You know, I asked for a mani-pedi, got tortured instead. BTDubs, your psycho prison sucks.”
- ―Daisy Johnson to Madame Hydra
Following her capture by Melinda May, Daisy Johnson was imprisoned and tortured at the Triskelion. She was interrogated by the Doctor, who wanted to know the whereabouts of the S.H.I.E.L.D. leader, the Patriot, and Jemma Simmons. Johnson replied that she did knot know where both were, but that she would gladly give him Simmons’ location if she knew it because she considered Simmons to be the only person able to bring back Leo Fitz, since she was in love with him and he also loved her in the real world. The Doctor, unpleased by this answer, violently slapped Johnson.
The interrogation was interrupted by the arrival of Madame Hydra, who asked the Doctor to leave since a security breach potentially threatening one of his projects had been discovered. After the Doctor left, Johnson heavily criticized the artificial world of the Framework, but Madame Hydra retorted that she was only fulfilling Holden Radcliffe‘s expectations. Radcliffe, imprisoned in the cell adjacent to Johnson’s, screamed that he had never asked for this, only for Madame Hydra to call her guards to make him shut up. She then revealed to Johnson that Leo Fitz became the Doctor after she erased his greatest regret in his life, and that everything that followed was not up to her. Madame Hydra offered Johnson to do the same for her : she could reprogram the Framework so that Johnson could live with her deceased boyfriend Lincoln Campbell, who had sacrificed himself in the real world. However, Johnson turned down her offer, since she knew she would not live with the real Campbell.
After Madame Hydra’s departure, Johnson heard Holden Radcliffe’s screaming and crying in the adjacent cell, lamenting over his ruined life. Johnson showed him no compassion since her own situation was the result of Radcliffe’s twisted actions. Johnson asked him how a transformation as radical as the one from the compassionate Leo Fitz she used to know to the ruthless Doctor was possible. Radcliffe answered that Aida had removed Fitz’s greatest regret in his life and that it was enough to change him that much. Johnson disbelieved him but Radcliffe insisted, stating that even a single sentence like “I love you” could dramatically change one’s life. Johnson then asked if Radcliffe has built a secret backdoor to escape the Framework while conceiving it. Radcliffe answered that he had, but that since Aida could not destroy this backdoor, it would be heavily guarded. He then provided Johnson with the intel she needed.
Finally, Johnson received another visitor in her cell. A troubled Melinda May, returning from a HYDRA “Enlightenment Camp” where she had learnt that HYDRA was indoctrinating children and witnessed the heroic actions and the death of the Patriot, asked Johnson if she was an Inhuman. Johnson stated that she was and in response, May rebelled against HYDRA by shattering a Terrigen crystal she had brought with her, enabling Johnson to recover her powers as Quake.
Joining the Resistance
- “Coulson, this is the only chance to actually wake people up.”
“Maybe the only way to solve our problem is to solve their problem.”
“What does that mean?”
“Getting to Radcliffe‘s coordinates right now is next to impossible. We need a way to divide HYDRA‘s forces. To save ourselves, we need to save the world.” - ―Daisy Johnson and Phil Coulson

Alternate Future
In an averted future, Johnson became part of Talbot after he absorbed her because the Centipede Serum was unavailable to her, having already been used on Coulson. Talbot used her vibrating powers to break the ground more easily, causing catastrophic earthquakes that cracked the Earth apart. Due to poor retention of historical records, Talbot’s name was lost to history and Johnson was incorrectly blamed for the cataclysm.
Personality
When first met, Skye was a confident woman obsessed with superhero culture and the shadow organizations that existed within it. She is edgy and can out-talk anyone with her unflappable nature. However, after the ordeal against John Garrett, Skye became more aloof, taking her role as a member of Coulson’s new S.H.I.E.L.D. more seriously.
Originally, Skye viewed S.H.I.E.L.D. as a “1984“, Big Brother-style government organization filled with secrets. When S.H.I.E.L.D. fell, Skye realized its place in keeping order and law enforcement. Presently, she has expressed that Coulson’s S.H.I.E.L.D. is now her life, including a desire to stand with her Supervising Officer Melinda May in an unknown situation.
Emotionally, Skye loves her friends deeply and worries for their well being. She harbors deep resentment towards Grant Ward for his betrayal. When she discovered that Simmons was a mole for S.H.I.E.L.D. in HYDRA, Skye had to be reassured by May before believing that Simmons would be safe. She noticed that something was wrong with Coulson when he needed to purge himself of the Words of Creation, though others, except for May, did not. She enjoyed her time on the Bus before the HYDRA Uprising and went there to work when it became available.
When transformed, Skye became frightened by her new powers and how people would react if they found out, especially Jemma Simmons, who had developed a hatred for those with powers after her encounter with Raina. Despite Skye’s attempts to get back into the field, she had to resort to shooting herself with an I.C.E.R. to stop herself and when trying to suppress her powers, she inadvertently injured herself in the process. Escaping with Gordon and meeting Lincoln Campbell and Jiaying, Skye soon started to accept her new powers and she was shocked to learn her true heritage from her mother. She also became more compassionate to Calvin Zabo, despite all that he had done in the past, where she also learned her true name. However, she still remains loyal to Phil Coulson as she insisted Gordon teleport her to S.H.I.E.L.D. to help him save Lincoln and Deathlok.
Having gradually accepted her new state of being and her birth name, Daisy became committed to helping other awakened Inhumans come to terms with their new abilities and help make a difference with S.H.I.E.L.D. As such, she becomes greatly emotional when Inhumans are either put in stasis, treated like a disease, or persecuted. This seems to have caused her to develop a ruthless streak, such as when she interrogated a suspected Watchdog supporter by intimidating him with her powers, her reasoning being that the Watchdogs and their supporters gave up their civil rights by spewing hate and destruction.
After being released from Hive‘s control, Daisy developed self-loathing, blaming herself for all her actions that the dark Inhuman had forced her to carry out. She was adamant that she should be punished for her actions under Hive’s sway, refused to listen any attempts by others to forgive her, and later attempted to commit suicide by fulfilling a vision Charles Hinton had shown her of a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent’s death, taking Hive with her in the process. This attempt was only averted by Lincoln Campbell, who sacrificed himself in Daisy’s place. These two combined traumas likely caused her decision to abandon S.H.I.E.L.D. and become a vigilante known as Quake. Judging by her request that Ghost Rider kill her, a request denied since the Spirit of Vengeance judged her innocent, this self-loathing still persists even after months of hunting thugs and protecting people.
Initially, Daisy didn’t trust the Framework version of Ward, believing he was just like the original. But, after spending enough time with him and seeing how much he loved her, she started to warm up to him. Even trying to stop him from staying behind to fight the Framework version of HYDRA. After an emotional talk with Ward, Daisy finally came to understand the real Grant Ward and seemed to have finally forgiven him for everything he did, realizing there was still good left in him, something that the rest of Coulson’s team believed to be highly untrue.
Upon traveling to the year 2091, Daisy was at first in denial that she would destroy the world in the future. But after seeing Samuel Voss‘s apparent proof of her future self’s last known actions, Daisy slowly began to fear the possibility, at which she refused to return to the present or even have her powers restored when the Kree implanted a power inhibitor but Coulson took the choice out of her hands. Later on, when Fitz’s Framework persona drove him to forcibly remove the inhibitor, Daisy hated him and refused to forgive or even trust him, only not killing him because of Simmons.
Despite being comfortable leading S.H.I.E.L.D. strike teams including the Secret Warriors, Daisy was least comfortable being burdened with the mantle of Director when Coulson was captured by HYDRA. This made her far stricter, especially after Fitz removed her inhibitor, with Deke Shaw remarking that she had become a “hard-ass” since that incident.
A quality unique to her is that Daisy has an incredible amount of respect for an individual’s autonomy. This is because throughout her life Daisy’s autonomy was often disregarded even by those who she trusted greatly. As a result, regardless of circumstance Daisy will always try to avoid taking away an individual’s ability to make their own choices even if others disagree. She was even willing to provide Ruby Hale with a pathway for redemption despite all the atrocities the latter had committed against S.H.I.E.L.D.. This was because she considered Hale’s abusive and misguided parenting the root cause of Ruby’s villainy whilst also seeing Ruby as a kindred soul who also had control taken away from her.
Daisy also has an immense care for children and their well-being and is surprisingly capable of handling them, she first showed these instincts with Ace Peterson and later Robin Hinton. With the former she took as many steps as possible to ensure he was least affected by his father’s new reality and with the latter, she ensured that she and her mother would be supported following her father’s demise. In addition, with Robin she displayed care and understanding of the later’s situation, never forcing her to provide answers even when she was desperate for them.

Due to an inhibitor implanted in her neck by the Kree Watch, for a period of time, Johnson was unable to use her powers while the inhibitor was active. Leo Fitz later removed the inhibitor against her will, restoring her powers.
- Vibration Manipulation: Daisy Johnson gained the ability to manipulate and enhance vibrations which can produce effects such as earthquakes and shockwaves when she was exposed to the mist from the Terrigen Crystals within the Diviner, she can also absorb vibrations, as seen in an episode when she absorbs an earthquake. According to Gordon and Jiaying, she is able to sense and tap into the vibrational energy of everything around her. The vibrations are connected to her heart rate, and as a negative result she can lose control of her powers whenever her heartbeat increases. Johnson’s body is able to withstand enhancing and releasing intense vibrational waves, however attempting to forcefully internalize or hold back her powers will put an excessive strain on her body and may lead to internal injuries like ruptured veins, hair-line bone fractures, or other severe consequences, which requires her to use casts created by Jemma Simmons. When focused, her abilities’ extend to the point that she can create both force barriers and powerful concussive waves of sheer force. After learning about her powers from Jiaying, Johnson achieved greater control over her powers and no longer loses control of them. She first used them to cause a controlled avalanche, and again to make several glasses of water ring, but ultimately ended up shattering them. In the attack on the HYDRA base, Johnson effectively used her powers to blast away her enemies and was able to use them to jumpstart Lincoln Campbell‘s heart. During the opening of the War against the Inhumans, she made an attacking agent’s gun explode and defeated Melinda May with a concussive blast. During the climax of the war, she was able to blast away Jiaying and knock a Quinjet into the sea, despite her life force being drained from her by Jiaying. A few months after the war, Johnson has learned to project her concussive waves in a more focused fashion, as when she blasted three men separately and sent an SUV spiraling down a street. She is also able to focus her power to shatter materials, as when she used it to destroy the floor underneath Lash during their first confrontation, making him fall down to the floor below. Johnson was shown to be able create platforms via blast of vibrations, as shown when Rosalind Price was falling to her death. Since sound is the vibration of air molecules, Johnson is acute to sounds that other people can not hear; when the Monolith was opened, Johnson heard sounds that Phil Coulson and Bobbi Morse did not. During her time under Hive‘s control, Johnson showed less restraint, if any whatsoever, when using her powers. She killed Gideon Malick by crushing his head with shockwaves; when Malick had a vision of this happening, he initially mistakenly believed the killer was Hive himself due to the sensation of being ripped apart from the inside. Soon after, she generated an earthquake via concussive blast to heavily damage the Playground. At various points between this and her liberation at the hands of Lash, she restricted Leo Fitz‘s breathing, drained a Kree’s spine, and attempted to cause Mack‘s heart to explode by internalizing an earthquake in his body. During her battle with Hive she showed proficiency in using her power in close quarters combat. After leaving S.H.I.E.L.D., Johnson had increased her level of control over her powers to the point of being able to target her vibrations with pinpoint accuracy, perform basic quasi-telekinetic feats, an ability that upon returning from the future and having her Kree inhibitor forcibly removed was expanded upon, allowing her to levitate and guide sensitive substances such as Gravitonium. During her time as a vigilante Johnson also learned to use her shockwaves to propel herself in the air and cushion her falls, even falls from above high-rise buildings. Johnson’s skill with her abilities has grown to the point where she can sense earthquakes before they come and absorb seismic vibrations to decrease an earthquake’s force, although this causes a great amount of fatigue, both physical and mental. When the Playground was invaded by the Life-Model Decoys, she could sense that Jemma Simmons was not a decoy by sending vibrations through her body, which allowed Johnson to feel Simmons’ bones. She was also able to concentrate shockwaves in her hands before releasing them, destroying Phil Coulson’s LMD and Alphonso Mackenzie’s LMD in the process. Johnson is also able to use her powers to apply enough force onto viscous matter such as Gravitonium, that it compresses to a degree that would be unachievable through any other means. Her powers can also be used sub-consciously as seen when the Remorath were transporting her to Taryan, she managed to break the device subduing her whilst her physical body was rendered unconscious.
- Superhuman Durability: During the Battle of Chicago, Quake was able to survive a fall from an incredibly high altitude when being forced on the ground by Glenn Talbot, which yet created a massive shockwave. Although she was rendered quite stunned by the shock and left unable to defend herself against Talbot, she walked out of it with no major injury. Daisy also survived several strikes from the superhumanly strong Hive with little damage.
- Power Enhancement: During her final battle with Glenn Talbot, she was easily overpowered by him. Using the Centipede Serum containing Jiaying‘s DNA that she found in her gauntlets, she injected it into herself and her power was enhanced, sending out a vibration strong enough to push Talbot out of the atmosphere in seconds, eventually leading to his death in space.
Abilities
- “Billions of dollars worth of equipment at your disposal and I beat you with a laptop I won in a bet?”
- ―Skye
- Master Hacker: Johnson is an accomplished computer hacker with a wide range of contacts through the Rising Tide hacktivist group. On many missions, these skills were utilized for intelligence gathering and data interpretation. Phil Coulson put her in charge of the Clairvoyant mission because she “sees things in unique ways” and was a master at pattern recognition and analysis; in other words, she picks up on patterns that others do not notice.
- Thief: She also had pickpocketing skills, managing to steal Michael Peterson‘s driving license in Los Angeles, and a set of keys from an Italian train Conductor without being noticed.
- Expert Marksman: Skye’s hesitation toward using firearms subsided following her training with Melinda May, as demonstrated by her using the Taser Projectile Launcher against Carl Creel and later as she used a sniper rifle against Donnie Gill. She displayed her impressive skills in conjunction with her close-range combat and tactical training, enabling her to take down several HYDRA operatives with only a pistol.
- “You’ve made her into quite the formidable soldier.”
- ―Hale to Phil Coulson
- Master Martial Artist: Skye was taught to fight by her S.O., using moves and skills comparable to May. She was able to have a prolonged battle with Agent 33, a person who gave May a good fight. After further training, she was able to disarm and defeat a skilled agent in battle. She displayed her impressive skills in conjunction with her marksmanship and tactical training, enabling her to take down several HYDRA operatives with only a pistol and her combat training on two separate occasions. During the opening of the War against the Inhumans, she was able to effortlessly defeat a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and hold her own against Melinda May for a time. Later, during the climax, she was able to defeat two out of five Alisha Whitley duplicates before being defeated by her superior numbers. A year following she was stated, following Bobbi Morse’s resignation, that she was the only agent beside May, capable of taking out a room of Hydra agents, solo. She was able to briefly hold her own against a Kree Reaper, and with the aid of her power, was able to defeat him. As a testament of her skills, she was able to have a prolonged battle with Hive, who had the abilities of Grant Ward, a man who had rivaled both Melinda May and Bobbi Morse in combat, combining her skills in martial artist and vibrational powers in close combat. She has even been able to outskill the Kree warrior Sinara.
- Expert Spy: Skye is skilled in deception, as she managed to trick Grant Ward to reveal all he knew about her father, before S.H.I.E.L.D. transferred him into Christian Ward’s custody. Even before her training, she was able to infiltrate a party hosted by Ian Quinn using her allegiance with the Rising Tide.
- “Military tactics 101. You never jeopardize a general when a soldier can do the job –”
“You’re not just a soldier. Not anymore. Like it or not.” - ―Daisy Johnson and Phil Coulson
- Tactician: Skye learnt to assess threats as she entered a location, scanning for exits and the type of weaponry the guards carry, even attempting to assess the personalities and skills of the people in her environment. Grant Ward commented on her ability she gained when he brought her to the Ponce de León Theater, and General Hale praised her ability to make difficult choices, and declared her to be powerful, intelligent, and calculating; in her opinion she was the optimal candidate for Project Destroyer of Worlds.
Equipment
Weapons
- “If she can learn the difference between the safety release and the magazine release, we’ll be making some real progress…”
- ―Grant Ward
During her first months of training to become a full-fledged S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Skye took some weapons training under the supervision of Agent Grant Ward. Although she used some handguns during her first missions with Coulson’s Team, she actually never fired a gun against an opponent until becoming a full-fledged Field Agent with Melinda May as her new Supervising Officer.
- IMI Jericho 941 R: Skye obtained this gun during her infiltration into his compound in Malta, as Quinn himself pointed one of these guns to Skye. She managed to disarm Quinn and pointed at him with the gun, but she fled before actually having to use it.
- Smith & Wesson Model 910: Skye took this weapon to defend herself, Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons from an attack by Akela Amador while they were performing surveillance activities inside a van. Skye took the gun, mixed up the safety release with the magazine release, and Amador managed to knock the van off the road.
- Beretta 92FS: Skye easily disarmed one of the private security agents that appeared when she infiltrated Lloyd Rathman‘s house posing as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. She quickly retrieved the gun and used it to menace his partner, managing to tie both up.
- Glock 26: Skye tried to take a Glock 26 from the Bus when she discovered that Grant Ward was actually a HYDRA infiltrator and she played along with his plans in order to buy Phil Coulsonand the rest of the team time to locate her. However, Ward took the weapon from her, telling Skye she would not need it.
- Smith & Wesson M&P: The Smith & Wesson M&P pistol is the standard sidearm carried by S.H.I.E.L.D.agents, and, as such, Skye used it as her sidearm, pointing at Grant Ward when he boarded the Busfollowing Daniel Whitehall‘s orders, or using it to kill many HYDRA operatives in a mission to rescue Deathlok and Lincoln Campbell in a HYDRA base in the Arctic. Despite preferring to use her powers as an offensive weapon, once she accepted her identity as Daisy Johnson, she continued to carried a Smith & Wesson M&P as her standard weapon, though keeping it holstered most of the times. She drew it while she searched for Lash following the Assassination of Shane and Lori Henson, coming across operatives of the Advanced Threat Containment Unit instead.
- Smith & Wesson M&P Compact: Skye used the Smith & Wesson M&P Compact pistol during her training at the shooting range of the Playground, demonstrating to her Supervising Officer Melinda May both her accuracy and her ability to keep her heart rate low.
- FN Five-seven: Skye obtained a FN Five-seven, the standard sidearm used by HYDRA security officers, when she was kidnapped and taken to the Ponce de León Theater in Puerto Rico. She used it to shoot at Grant Ward and to threaten both her father and Raina moments after her liberation.
- Heckler & Koch MP5K-PDW: Johnson was given one of these weapons by Lance Hunter and Joey Gutierrez, who took many of them from the HYDRA operatives they had already knocked unconscious in order to barricade themselves inside the portal chamber of the HYDRA Castle. Johnson stayed in the chamber with Alphonso Mackenzie to protect the portal, with orders to shoot anything that came from the portal if it was not Phil Coulson or Leo Fitz.
- Nemesis Arms Vanquish: Skye began training with this sniper rifle per Melinda May‘s suggestion in order to get used to its recoil, and later used to shoot at Donnie Gill to prevent him from freezing May and Lance Hunter on the Maribel del Mar freighter.
- Night-Night Gun: Skye used a Night-Night Gun to infiltrate Ian Quinn’s Villa in Italy, shooting at the guard at the gate many times before actually hitting him. She continued to carry the weapon inside the compound, but she was disarmed by Carlo Mancini before she could shoot Ian Quinn.
- I.C.E.R.: Skye, as every other member of her team, used I.C.E.R.s to incapacitate her targets, carrying one of them when she infiltrated the Cybertek Manufacturing Facility with Melinda May and when she followed an erratic Phil Coulson that lost control of himself following unlocking his erased memories about Project T.A.H.I.T.I.. She even used it on herself to prevent damaging others when she lost control of her powers when she learnt its origin from Vin-Tak and Lady Sif.
- Taser Projectile Launcher: Skye became a full-fledged field agent with Melinda May as her Supervising Officer, and used the Taser Projectile Launcher to launch taser-like rounds in order to subdue Carl Creel during one of her missions.
- Shotgun-Axe: Having taken the weapon from Alphonso Mackenzie’s LMD, Quake stormed forward and shot Jeffrey Mace’s LMD multiple times before attempting to destroy him with the axe blade.
Uniforms and Gloves
- Power-Inhibiting Gloves: In order to negate Skye’s abilities, Jemma Simmons constructed a pair of gloves for Skye to wear. The gloves were quite uncomfortable to wear, as they were tight, scratchy, and produced a nauseous feeling in the wearer. However, the gloves damaged her Terrigenesis.
- Quake Gauntlets: After learning how to control her powers, Daisy Johnson began to wear a pair of metal gauntlets with her uniform which helped her focusing her powers. These also greatly reduced the strain Johnson’s powers enacted on her bones, which became apparent when she refused to wear them after abandoning S.H.I.E.L.D.; without them, bone fractures accumulated to the point where even a weak shockwave was painful for her.
- First S.H.I.E.L.D. Uniform: During her time working as a field agent under Coulson’s S.H.I.E.L.D., Skye wore a specific suit for operations that consisted off black jeans, a blueish-gray zip-up jacket, a side holster, fingerless gloves, lace-up boots, and a chest harness with a hood attached.
- Second S.H.I.E.L.D. Uniform: After gaining powers as a result of Terrigenesis and returning to the field, Daisy Johnson began to wear a black uniform made up of a jacket and pants, with yellow piping and grey detailing. She also wore metal gauntlets on her lower arms.
Other Equipment
- Backscatter Glasses: Skye briefly tested the Backscatter Glasses during a game of poker, in order to help Leo Fitz trick Grant Ward; Fitz abandoned the room when Skye jokingly revealed that she could see under their clothes, and she continued to look when Ward was left alone.
- Tracking Bracelet: Skye was forced to carry one of these bracelets to monitor her activities when she seemingly betrayed her teammates in order to warn Miles Lydon that S.H.I.E.L.D. was about to arrest him. She wore it during some time, until her key role in finding Phil Coulson when he was kidnapped by the Centipede Project made her gain his full trust.
- Inhuman Control Device: Daisy Johnson was implanted with an Inhuman Control Device when she was captured by Kasius. The device removed her powers with a push of a button, so Johnson would be restrained. Due to the device activated by Faulnak, she was regularly powerless for some time. Johnson had no intentions to remove it because of her fear that she would cause the Destruction of Earth with her powers. The device was eventually removed by Leo Fitz, who due to a personality split, painfully removed the device out of Johnson so she would use her powers to compress Gravitonium.
- Centipede Serum: During the Battle of Chicago, Johnson fought an enhanced Glenn Talbot and was easily overpowered by him. Using the Centipede Serum containing Jiaying‘s DNA that she found in her gauntlets, she injected it into herself and her power was enhanced, sending out a vibration strong enough to push Talbot out of the atmosphere in seconds, eventually leading to his death in space.
Vehicles
- “Hey, no joy rides, okay? It’s my house.”
- ―Skye to Technician
- Daisy Johnson’s Van: To be added
- Bus: To be added
- Zephyr One: To be added
- Hell Charger: To be added
Facilities
- Providence: Along with the rest of her team, Skye sought refuge in the secret base Providence because of the HYDRA Uprising. Unlike her teammates who left for another mission, Skye remained in Providence with Eric Koenig and Grant Ward. However, she soon discovered that Ward had murdered Koenig, but she managed to convince Ward that she still believed him to be a loyal S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and left Providence with him, though not before carving a warning message for her teammates to find when they would return.
- Playground: Skye was among the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who took possession of the Playground to replace the lost S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters at the Triskelion. However, due to the trouble she experienced in controlling her recently acquired Inhumanpowers, she was asked to leave the Playground to find shelter in the Retreat. She later returned in the Playground as Daisy Johnson, having sufficiently mastered her abilities to be put in charge of her own team, the Secret Warriors. Johnson seriously damaged the Playground after having been swayed by Hive, who had asked her to retrieve the Kree Orb in the base. She left the base to join Hive, but returned and was locked in a Containment Chamber once Lash put an end to Hive’s influence over her. Due to the loss of Lincoln Campbell, Johnson left the Playground after the final battle against Hive to become the vigilante Quake, but later returned as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent under Jeffrey Mace‘s directorship. When the Playground was infiltrated by Life-Model Decoys sent by Aida, Johnson was able to hide from them and to fight them and managed to escape from the base which was destroyed by Melinda May’s LMD.
- Retreat: Skye was sent to the Retreat by Phil Coulson so that the could take the time to gain control over her powers without harming anyone, all the while being protected from other threats. She was visited by the Inhuman Gordon, who offered to take her somewhere else, but she initially declined his proposal. However, when S.H.I.E.L.D. agents sent by Robert Gonzales attempted to capture her, Skye left the Retreat thanks to Gordon.
- Afterlife: Following her escape from the Retreat, Skye was taken to the Inhuman settlement of Afterlife. This was a decisive moment in Skye’s life in many aspects: she was reunited with her biological mother Jiaying, she met and befriended Lincoln Campbell, and thanks to their help she learned to control her powers and learned about her true identity of Daisy Johnson. Johnson began considering Afterlife her new home to the point that she sided against S.H.I.E.L.D. when the War against the Inhumans, which had been secretly staged by Jiaying, erupted. However, Johnson eventually discovered her mother’s true motives upon witnessing the murder of Raina, and she was subsequently captured by Jiaying and forced to leave Afterlife to be locked up on the Iliad.
- Lighthouse: Johnson was the last S.H.I.E.L.D. agent to be sent into the 2091 Lighthouse by Enoch. In an attempt to find her friend Jemma Simmons, Johnson was captured by Kasius, who decided to put her up in an auction and implanted her with an Inhuman Control Device to suppress her powers whenever necessary. Johnson was interrogated by Kasius about her presence in the Lighthouse and was forced to duel against the formidable Sinara, but she was eventually able to escape thanks to Simmons and Leo Fitz. Once they returned into their time, Johnson remained at the Lighthouse, being reluctant at the idea of going outside due to her belief that she could cause the Destruction of Earth. However, she later joined her friends in their new missions in order to help avert the catastrophe. After having been captured by the evil personality of Fitz, The Doctor, Johnson had her inhibitor removed and used her reacquired powers to seal the Fear Dimension rift in the Lighthouse’s basement.
In the Framework
- Triskelion: When she plugged herself in the Framework, Johnson discovered that her alternate reality incarnation was a HYDRA agent stationed at the Triskelion. Johnson tried to maintain her cover as long as possible, but her Inhuman nature was eventually discovered and she was locked up in a cell in the Triskelion by Madame Hydra and The Doctor, who tortured her and interrogated her. Nevertheless, Johnson was able to escape thanks to Melinda May, who shattered a Terrigen Crystalin her cell, triggering her Terrigenesis and granting Johnson back with her powers.
- Playground: Following her Escape from the Triskelion, Johnson went to the Playground, the headquarters of the S.H.I.E.L.D. resistance against HYDRA. She reconnected with her friends Jemma Simmons and Phil Coulson, as well as Grant Ward, who learned that the person he considered his girlfriend had been replaced.

Daisy & Auz:
They met years after the Rapture. Daisy had taken up work for one of the 39 kings Auz had installed, never knowing who Auz was or how the global purge of humanity had been orchestrated. He seemed like just any other guy on the rebuilt streets, and so she paid him little attention. Then, in the presence of her latest employer; the king of that rebuilt human city, her mouth fell open when she saw the king bow his head slowly and very reverently to him, then embracing him as a brother-in-arms, far more bonded than any political equal or rival would have been. She had to ask who he was.
The years went by, and Daisy began to use her pre-mutation computer skills to find out all she could about Auz –and it wasn’t easy; his origins and current work seemed to have been completely scrubbed from the Internet, if those details had ever been there at all. Bravely trying her luck with the king she worked for, she started just asking direct questions about him, and the king just smiled and said, “Ask him yourself.” The next time Auz returned to that city, she did.
She was surprised when Auz made no effort to hide anything, not using a single mind game or any wordplay on her. He explained that he’d done some computer digging, too, curious about her probably as much as she had become about him, and he’d come to respect and admire her –for her work both before and after her shift, and for what she’d made it through. If she wanted to test the truth behind his answers, she was welcome to join him on his next flight back home.
Since then, Daisy has been invited to show off her abilities in, around, and beyond Inisfree; Auz has hired her to test both his own private networks (such as FOB-Net and the I.N.N.) and the earthquake-defeating devices his city was specially built for. There are also many expeditions she has been a teammate on, helping to locate (via living ground-penetrating radar methods) and unearth ancient ruins. She has even been told about the secret exclusive dimension his kind is making, and, if she accepts, she’ll get to help shape many of the landmarks of its more than 200 man-made worlds, leveling-up with her ‘quake’ ability like never before. The trade-off for all this? Nothing; Auz loves her and wants her to succeed.
