- Mer-folk (people of the sea/ocean/s)
- Cecaelia (half-octopus, ‘Sea Witch’, becomes human-model-looking (two legs) when on land)
- Bisexual
- FC/PB: Zella Day
Species Spec’s:
- no bones, very flexible
- no blood; can’t bleed out
- horizontal pupils
- can generate ink
- naturally magical
- can automatically see cloaked beings
- limb regrowth
- no need for air
- speed-swimming (no water resistance, like what mermaids and Aquaman can do)
- glamor; minor shapeshifting to look like an attractive human, etc. (thus amphibian were-humans)
- some have a poisonous bite
- reference (partially-correct information/disclosure)
- Like all good beings, cecaelia have the natural form of a healthy attractive human (a beautiful woman or a handsome man); they don’t have to shapeshift into one, and they don’t have faint evidence of hidden octopus/squid features like some humans, always lying, claimed. Cecaelia shapeshift into half-squid/octopi to assist with underwater life. That’s it.
- Their minds are not very different from others, only from the always-negative and always-wrong human minds.
–
Appearance:
Whether as a human or her natural cecaelia form, Mira has long wavy dirty blonde hair, usually decorated with shells in some fashion (like this or this). Her eyes are primarily blue, but have flecks of grey and green. In the water, her eyes look bluer, but appear greener on land. Her skin is a light tan.
As a cecaelia, her tentacles resemble that of an octopus/squid and are dark green in color. Her lateral lines, also visible in her human form, look like blue and black beads.
She has a faint scar on her upper right arm from her friend Evelyn. (It was an accident and Mira doesn’t care that she got bitten.)
Her personal fashion taste while on land is very bohemian. She detests pants and shorts. Instead she wears dresses and shirt/skirt sets. All her dresses and skirts are long and flowy. She prefers to go barefoot, but in the city she wears sandals.
–
Personality:
Mira has a quieter personality. As a cecaelia, she’s an outcast among the merfolk community. She does prefer quiet, so her preferred spot is beyond the edge of the shoal in a sea cave. Like other cecaelia, she drifts through the ocean, though she does avoid other shoals. Given that she doesn’t interact with many other merfolk, she’s a bit shy and prefers to watch others.
When she does make a friend, she is loyal for life. She will do what she can to help them out of any situation, dangerous or not, going so far as to kill for them. At the same time she is also very doting and caring to younger merfolk that she comes across. Despite being an outcast, she will help them find their swarms and shoals or point them toward the land if they are looking for it.
Morally, Mira is grey. While she doesn’t go hunting for humans, she does not advocate for a peaceful negotiation. She simply doesn’t care. She’s witnessed good and bad humans, some that she’ll go so far as to call acquaintances. By the same right, she has killed them –for various reasons. She’ll just pick the bad ones.
She enjoys human cuisine when on land, given that there are vastly different flavors that don’t exist under the water. While literate in American English, she does not care for reading, nor does she like television. She does find music enjoyable, especially the slower numbers.

Powers:
- Transformation: Merfolk have the ability to transform parts of themselves between aquatic creature and a more human appearance. Selkies are able to transform between their seal form (similar to shapeshifters) and a human form while other merfolk are more limited.
- Kiss of the Sea: The kiss of a merfolk, freely given, to a person that is underwater will allow the person’s body to temporarily change to accommodate the water. As she is a warm-blooded merfolk, the person’s lungs enlarge, allowing them to hold their breath longer. This typically lasts between five to thirty minutes.
- Longevity: Merfolk have a long lifespan, and age sporadically or else not at all.
- Enhanced Senses: A merfolk’s senses are enhanced, this includes the five senses.
- Aquatic Adaptation: Merfolk are strong swimmers, those that are warm blooded can hold their breath for long periods of time, while those that are cold blooded can form gills to breath the water.
- Lateral Line: All merfolk have lateral lines even in their human form. These lines are visible as small dots of darker skin that run along the sides of their neck, sides of their ribs all the way down to the exterior sides of their feet or tail. These lines are used for sensing movement, vibration, and pressure changes in the water or air around them. Lateral lines are particularly sensitive, and when damaged often leave the merfolk disoriented.
- Limb Regeneration: All cecaelia are able to regenerate lost limbs or tentacles. This process typically takes anywhere between several days to a week. Smaller wounds can be healed quickly, however cecaelia find it difficult to heal larger and deeper wounds so it is common practice for a cecaelia to cut off the damaged limb in order for it to heal correctly if the wound is too deep. Cecaelia can stop the blood flow to their limbs, preventing cataclysmic blood loss in the circumstance where they do need to remove a limb.
- Drown: This cecaelia is able to drown victims without the need for water. It is done by manipulating the lungs of the individual, flooding them with water. Cecaelia are only able to use this ability on those within a twenty yard radius, and can be put into action up to three times within twenty four hours.
–
Weaknesses:
- Spirit of the Water: All merfolk take their aquatic form while submerged in some type of natural water at least twice a month and for younger merfolk sometimes up to six times a month. This can be anything from the ocean, a river, or even a creek. Treated water such as the water found in a bathtub or a faucet will not work. Merfolk that fight this calling will find themselves weak and eventually will die.
- Achromatia: Achromatia is a disease that affects all merfolk and has killed off more than half their kind. It is not known how the disease is transferred or how it came to be, although many believe polluted water sources are to blame.
- Increased Sensitivity: Merfolk are particularly susceptible to chemicals and other irritants. Many drugs, poisons and even alcohol affect merfolk at a higher degree. Some merfolk find particularly industrial areas to be uncomfortable and may develop rashes or have allergic reactions to the chemicals in the air.
- Particularly high frequencies or low frequencies such as the kind one might find in sonar cause merfolk to become disoriented. A prolonged exposure to higher frequencies of noise will eventually cause merfolk to bleed from the mouth, nose and eyes, eventually becoming fatal.
- Regrown Limbs: The re-growing of limbs destroys muscle memory. A cecaelia that regrows a limb will need to retrain the muscles associated with it. When it comes to legs, it can be particularly difficult to walk again and may take a while. The same goes for arms and their ability to write.

History:
When Mira was born, she was alone. The only other egg from her mother had been destroyed by a human object that had barely missed her own egg. A drifting Cecaelia found her and raised her until she could care for herself. From then on, the young cecaelia was alone. She drifted through the Pacific shoal, avoiding and human signs. Her surrogate mother had taught her what to look for and had hammered them home thoroughly.
At around 25 years, she sought out to make a home for herself. Until this point she’d been drifting and sleeping in temporary locations. After about a year, she found an unoccupied cave towards the edge of the shoal in the deeper waters. That doesn’t mean her drifting stopped, it simply meant that she had some place to return to when she didn’t want to drift through the ocean.
During her times adrift, she would enter rivers and bays at night and shift into a human form to explore. The first time she shifted, she was young and in the presence of 2 other cecaelia who taught her how to walk. She’d stayed with them until she felt comfortable using human legs. They explained the human language of the area to her, teaching her how to read and speak it over the course of several years. However, they were up in age and passed after her last visit.
One thing she learned was that humans thrive on money and that they have permanent dwellings as well as semi-permanent dwellings, which were only occupied during certain times of the year. She learned what the money looked like and began to search bodies for it when she found them. Sometimes she would kill humans, ones who’d attacked her or another being, and take their money from them. It took years but by the time she was in her early 30s, Mira had enough money to purchase a tiny, out of the way cabin on the water near the city of San Diego. Here, she stashed some of the remaining money as well as clothes and shoes to wear.
Heading back toward San Diego, she came across red water; blood. Swimming through it to find the cause, she found a new undine with claws and spikes, and a look of helplessness. Some maternal instinct took over and she pulled the young female into an embrace. Looking around, she figured it would only be a matter of time before some human investigated. So, with the undine in her arms, she slowly moved them farther out into the ocean; let the humans think it was a shark or something.
Mira took her back to her cave and taught her about what they were, how to shift, about the other undine swarms, etc. But Evelynn, or Eve; the young undine, never left. (There were still nights that Eve had nightmares and Mira would wake her from them. One time she got bitten, but Mira didn’t mind. She could heal it quickly anyway.) Instead, she became her closest friend. Sometimes, Mira saw her as a little sister, someone to cherish and protect. A few years later, Mira took her back to San Diego and showed her the little cabin. Together, they lured and killed humans, specifically the bad ones. They took their money, too, and added it to the stash.
They also went to look for Eve’s family. But it didn’t end well and Mira saw red. Her family had abandoned their blood and had called her a freak, which Mira did not understand. Family did not do that. Cecaelias literally would sacrifice themselves for the sake of family. And over the concept of sexuality, which Eve had explained to her. So, Mira took her back to the ocean and away from the city. There was hatred and anger. While she was neutral in regards to humans herself, she would not influence Eve away from her justified feelings.
She focused on protecting her, guiding her. When she got word that Triton Ianessa was calling for war and seeking fighters, she was overlooked in her cave. Not many purposefully sought out Cecaelias. When Eve remained neutral like herself, she was proud of the undine. Killing humans needlessly was a waste. However, she did agree with some of the reasoning. Mira just felt there could be better methods.
Something good did come from the attack, though; it pointed Mira to the city of San Francisco. She found a human home for herself and Eve close enough to the water, so she cleaned out the cabin in San Diego and sold it. For now, Mira decided to focus on Eve. Eve had grown up human; it was what she knew and missed, so Mira would help her live like one. And maybe figure out why she felt such an odd feeling in her chest when other humans looked at Eve with interest.

Mira & Auz:
Mira got an entirely different, new, and surprisingly wonderful feeling in her chest when she met Auz. He noticed her gazing at him, almost spellbound, and the two introduced themselves. The more they talked, the more they found they had in common; both she and he were outcasts, had caring instincts for other people of different races or species, hated pants, enjoyed slow music, and would kill for those they loved. Both had lived in little hideaways, and befriended unlikely strangers. Now, both were also considered morally ‘grey’; they didn’t go out of their way to hurt the monsters known as humans, but they didn’t bother to try and help the mindless little things, either. Mira and Auz became fast friends, and she found a growing feeling spreading throughout her body; every fiber in her being sensed she could trust and count on him, and that his instincts to protect her were as strong as hers had been to protect Eve.
The weeks went by, and Auz always arrived a little early, impressing Mira with how timely, honest, and loyal he was with her; he never missed or rescheduled a single hangout. Eventually she couldn’t hold it in anymore; she finally had a real land friend, and so all her stories came gushing forth, along with endless questions about how he had managed while growing up in the land realms. Somewhere amidst all these waves of exchanged information, the two practically pounced on each other, barely making it back to her San Francisco house before they finished deliciously exhausting each other.
Mira passed out over Auz’s left side, and smiled through dozens of blissful dreams, her entire being finally relaxed and feeling at home, not just in a house. When she stirred hours later, he was still right there, and they talked for hours more before either had any thought to move. Ever the calming gentleman around worthy ladies such as her, he even offered to leave if she needed some time and space to process their first surge of bonding and secrets revealed.
Mira frowned with widened eyes, turning her head to face his, in disbelief, “…No! No; stay. …Please. …I’ve never connected with anyone like this. …I never dreamed I would, especially here on land. Stay with me, okay?” She finally felt wanted, not outcast, and it was amazing to her, like breathing deeply or seeing the Sun for the first time, and she intended to bask in this new glory for as long as he would allow.
“I promise,” he softly reassured her in his bass whisper, his eyes looking appreciatively into hers. She realized those looks of his were as calming as the familiar sea horizon during a clear day, and that he used them to help her see into his soul; it was one of his effective ways of reassuring people to the core. So again, she melted back down to drape herself across his chest and side, the two keeping each other warm and letting their breathing and heartbeats harmony a lullaby to usher them back into one more brief bonding sleep.
Having not been brainwashed by the modern human nonsense, the more she learned about Auz and his people, the more she was fascinated and falling in love. He felt the same way about her and her own kind. It wasn’t long before she was introducing him to her beloved adopted Eve, and feeling that entirely good and right feeling in her chest, including when he looked at Eve with adoring eyes just as he’d shared with Mira. Their destined threesome of three different humanoid species had begun.
And, of course, Auz’s sense of humor shone through just like it always did; clever jokes about the hentai called ‘tentacle porn’ were given at all the right moments, and the laughter that ensued helped Mira, Eve, and him finish bonding completely. Their shared laughs helped heal, stabilize, and strengthen them. They now realized and felt they could be open about anything with each other, and so they were.

2020 Update:
This sea-witch is now practicing her powers in Inisfree when she visits there, and has made a lot of love with Auz, both there and abroad. Her powers grow a little every time she does, even spiking and increasing their potential during those sexual arts. In time… she’ll help re-stabilize big swaths of the north Pacific, even gaining the ability to pre-sense and calm back down tidal (and rogue) waves.
–
2022 Update:
Having married Auz almost the moment they made it to the city he’d been telling her about, finding out everything he’d shared with her was real and good, they have stayed a firm couple for almost half a decade now, and will certainly be staying that way forevermore. She helps him whenever they are together and able to go for a swim, and he helps her with any of her land issues he can, even when that just means holding her hand or keeping a loving arm around her as they stroll. The two look at each other so dreamily for the longest moments, breathing deeply as they forget everything else that was on their minds.
Mira has a residence in Inisfree’s “Santorini II” neighborhood reserved just for her, and she has already made a lot of happy memories there, starting with Auz… and now with many of the other wonderful deities and demi-deities who visit their sacred polar realm, the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth.

2023 November/+:
Being half-octopus, it is easy for her to sense the locations of similar beings, such as the Illithids of R’lyeh and those in the deeper cave layers of The Underdark. She also feels a natural affinity to Cthulhu, leader-Titan of R’lyeh.
With modern/new/young squid and octopi, she has an even easier time finding and commanding/willing to do things to help her –thus she will become fast-friends with the kraken High Queen Ambrosia has started raising.
In time, she’ll start letting me observe in person her making love with such beings.
Cecaelia (non-psionic shapeshifting humanoid octopi) and Illithids (psionic non-shapeshifting humanoid octopi) both have subordinate brains; one per major appendage (thus 5 brains; the main/dominant one in the head, 1 in each arm, and 1 in each leg).
Dildos I got her as gifts which she loves:
