Named in honor of the greatest singers on Earth, Sirena has risen through the ranks of the Mer-folk to their highest; she is one of their Tritons, which means she reigns over an entire ocean.

Spec’s:

  • 197 years old in 2017, she still looks to be in her teens, by human standards.
  • 5’9″
  • 131 lbs.
  • dark-brunette, hair left down, naturally straight at the top, then wavy
  • Caucasian, mildly sun-kissed
  • brown eyes (matching her hair)

  • often wears little or nothing underwater, and nice couture white diaphanous feminine button-down dress-shirts (and matching bikini-bottoms or see-through long-skirts) on the land
  • FEMALE MERFOLK SELKIE PANSEXUAL; she’ll have sex with just about anything.
  • FC/PB:  BLANCA PADILLA

Appearance:

In human form, Sirena holds a natural beauty. Not unnaturally so like an Undine might possess, but still appealing to the eye. Rena’s facial features are rather prominent, and her skin is undoubtedly flawless. The only significant marks being the lateral lines that run the length of her body. These small dots being slightly darker than her tan colored skin and likely unnoticed to most. Standing at a quite tall (for a humanoid female) 5’9,” the selkie sports a rather slender build. Rena possess a feminine figure with slight curves, however, she has little to no muscle on her. Though brute strength isn’t her forte, Sirena is considerably graceful with nearly every movement she does. Quick to react and even lighter on her feet, surprisingly so despite her human form being less used until recently.

The selkie’s hair is a dark shade of brown that can border black without the right lighting. The dark tresses have a natural wave to them and often hang at shoulder length. Sirena usually leaves the hair down as she doesn’t put too much time into it. Her hair tends to naturally look nice even when slightly messy. Which is fortunate for her, as she’s often too busy to deal with it. However, on some occasions, Rena will take the time to do something elaborate with it. Similarly to her hair, /come eyes are brown. Though this happens to be a lighter shade and they stand out slightly.

When it comes to her natural form, Sirena takes the appearance of an Australian sea lion. For the most part, her body is a very light tan, much like her skin in human form. However, the top of her back is a darker shade of brown. Her flippers also have this brown, but the tips slowly fade into a black shade. Rena underbelly happens to be golden brown tinge. While in this form Sirena measures a little over 5 feet. Even in her sea lion form, Sirena is still quite slender, agile, and otherwise a slippery little water doggo.

When it comes to clothes, Sirena quite frankly dislikes them. All of them. This for an actual reason though, as the selkie’s body is easily irritated. Typically the more constricting the clothing is, the more discomfort it causes her. To Rena clothing is truly a hindrance, and she’d much rather go without. However, it isn’t exactly professional for her to do so. Since clothing quite literally irritates her skin to the point it can cause rashes, she sticks to the least constricting clothing she can get by with. The less contact with her skin the better. As of yet, loose fitting dresses happen to be her favorite. When alone, or at least with those that aren’t bothered by it, it’s not uncommon that the selkie will strip off some of her outer layers. Don’t be shocked if the female parades around in a tank top and underwear… perhaps even less.

Personality:

Sirena possesses what most would call a heart of gold. She has a finely tuned moral compass that keeps her genuine, compassionate, and sincere. A polite and friendly selkie though not to the point it’s a weakness. The Triton cares deeply about the well-being of others, especially her own kind, and often more so than herself. This notable when it comes to those she cares about deeply. Despite being a selkie, Sirena doesn’t mind being around others too much. In fact, it’s necessary that her communication skills stay as strong as they are. However, every now and again, she enjoys time to herself. Reading is a favored pastime of hers, though currently, it’s a luxury when she gets the time.

When it comes to conflicts, Rena would rather try to appease others first before being forced to do anything drastic. Balanced. It’s another good term to describe her. The Triton is always looking for a balance. A compromise in an argument. The right course of action in a situation that’s rapidly declining. She’s always one to have a very controlled manner and can be counted on when the situation calls for it. Sirena is a smart individual that knows how to play her pieces correctly, and wait to do so if needed. The merfolk keeps her feelings in check as to not let them get the best of her. Thus fore it’s a challenge to get the Triton riled up. Though if push comes to shove, she’s not one to be walked on. She may be a kind hearted person, but she isn’t a pushover. Though Rena will try to satisfy as many people as possible first, she’s aware that sometimes gentle talk just won’t do it. Taking a more forceful approach if necessary isn’t beyond her.

The Triton is a strong minded individual however, she still possesses an unnatural kindness that may seem unfitting for a leader. Along with that, she has a strong curiosity for the world above her, as before she rarely interacted with them besides aiding an occasional endangered human. Supernaturals are a new concept to her because she was completely unaware of them before the incident. It’s important to note that trust isn’t something Sirena blindly hands out, despite her kindness to most all. Once Rena’s trust has been broken, it can be a trek to get it back.

Her current efforts are to repair the view of her people with the surface dwellers and patch up the chaos that the previous Triton caused. Guilt currently lurks in the woman due to the events that unfolded affecting both humans and super-naturals alike. The fondness, as some call it, that Rena has for land dwellers has led some of her own kind to despise her current course actions. However, Sirena is a being that seeks peace and tries to do what she believes is best. Being swayed by others opinions or thoughts towards her is rather rare. After lanessa’s attack, the Triton is aware that amends need to be had. Therefore she holds no ill will towards any other species, even with the current backlash directed at the merfolk. The selkie is not one to hold grudges if she can help it. Such actions aren’t in her nature.

Abilities:

  • Transformation: Merfolk have the ability to transform parts of themselves between aquatic creatures and a more human appearance. As a selkie, Sirena can transform between a seal lion form in a manner similar to shapeshifters.
  • Kiss of the Sea: The kiss of a merfolk, freely given, to a person that is underwater will allow the person’s body to temporarily change to accommodate the water. As a warm blooded merfolk, the Triton enlarges the person’s lungs, allowing them to hold their breath longer. This normally lasts around five to thirty minutes.
  • Longevity: Merfolk have a long lifespan, and age sporadically or else not at all.
  • Enhanced Senses: Sirena’s sense are enhanced, this includes the five senses.
  • Aquatic Adaptation: Sirena is a strong swimmer, as a warm blooded merfolk she can hold her breath for long periods of time.
  • Lateral Lines: All merfolk have lateral lines even in their human form. These lines are visible as small dots of darker skin that run along the sides of their neck, sides of their ribs all the way down to the exterior sides of their feet or tail. Sirena uses these lines for sensing movement, vibration, and pressure changes in the water or air around them. Lateral lines are particularly sensitive, and if damaged will leave Rena disoriented.
  • Animal control: Selkies are particularly in tune with the world around them, and are able to communicate with other creatures such as fish, or even mammals. No matter the language Sirena can speak to animals and is able to understand what they are saying. The same goes for said selkie understanding the animal itself. Although she can speak with shifters in their shifter form, Rena cannot control them like she can other animals. Nor would she want to.
  • Healing Touch: Sirena is able to heal others. This takes a great deal of energy and the worse the wound is, the more energy required. Healing mortal wounds such as deep lacerations that could eventually lead to death will leave her in an extremely weakened state. For at least three days Rena is unable to heal other wounds. Minor wounds such as scratches can be healed quickly without trouble, however, the worse the wound the longer the cool down period. Sirena herself cannot heal at an accelerated rate, and healing others requires her to be touching the individual.

Weakness:

  • Spirit of the Water: As with all merfolk, Sirena will take her aquatic form while submerged in natural water. She only needs to do this three times a month. This can be anything from the ocean, a river, or even a creek, but treated water will not work. If Rena fights this calling she will find herself weak and eventually will die.
  • Achromatia: Achromatia is a disease that affects all merfolk and has killed off more than half her kind. As a selkie, Sirena is more susceptible to Achromatia than other merfolk. It is not known how the disease is transferred or how it came to be although many believe polluted water sources are to blame.
  • Increased Sensitivity: Sirena, in particular, is quite susceptible to chemicals and other irritants. Perhaps it’s just her, but they pose a bigger threat than to most. Drugs, poisons, and alcohol affect her at a much higher degree. Industrial areas are a nightmare for the Triton as she develops rashes along with allergic reactions to the chemicals in the air.
  • Particularly high frequencies or low frequencies, such as the kind one might find in sonar, also cause Sirena to become disoriented and nauseous. A prolonged exposure to higher frequencies will eventually cause her to bleed from the mouth, nose, eyes, and will eventually become fatal.

History:

From the moment it was discovered Sirena was a selkie she was always treated with the utmost care. It seemed that a sickness had suddenly been spreading through merfolk in the last half century. Rena had witnessed Achromatia at an early age. Her sister had been taken by it, and the young selkie had the ‘pleasure’ of watching first hand. While the disease affected all merfolk, it seemed to hit selkies the hardest –a fact that caused Sirena’s mother to worry for her daughter’s well being, though it seemed that the selkie herself never experienced symptoms of said disease.

Even from the beginning, Sirena had expectations placed on her shoulders. Her father had been working under the Pacific’s Triton for ages –not quite like the Eon, but an important subordinate nonetheless, a fact he took pride in. His talents for being a gifted healer, much like Sirena herself, were also appreciated. Now as the only child, Sirena was expected to follow a similar path. Despite being a selkie, Rena never lived an isolated life. The young merfolk was always closely watched as to keep her from roaming far. Her parents were particularly adamant on keeping her far away from the surface world. However, Sirena’s compassionate nature didn’t allow her to sit back when humans were in danger. Especially those in danger of drowning. Even when reprimanded the selkie didn’t stop, nor take much thought of it. Her caring nature was always there no matter who or what needed help. She would never hold a grudge against the humans, but neither would she go close to their domain. It was one rule she wouldn’t break.

Due to her frequent escapades, her father simply gave her more things to do. Perfecting her healing and learning to deal with political matters had been forced upon her for decades. Sirena didn’t want to disappoint either and did her best to meet such expectations. Many were impressed with the selkie’s natural ability to work through problems or develop solutions. Rena displayed incredible patience when it came to handling others. Despite her originally doing such things to only please her father, Sirena became adept at handling such matters.

Despite the constant nagging from her parents, she was content to stay where she was. Though she loved her parents to death, it was enough work as it was. Rena also didn’t believe herself to be experienced enough to on more important tasks. She wasn’t exactly the oldest of merfolk, only being about 55 years old. However, Sirena’s future was promising. Her particular talents had caught the eye of caught the eye of the both the Eon and Triton. Though before anything could come of it, death managed to find its way back into Sirena’s family.

It was no secret that Achromatia had been getting worse. The number of merfolk deaths had been increasing at a rapid rate, and selkies were becoming rarer each day. Still, the death of her father came as a surprise. Not once, but twice had Sirena watched the disease take a loved one. The event had only left her feeling guilty for surviving, and unappreciative of her now deceased father. Her thoughts focused solely on how she hadn’t done enough for him, or if she’d been stronger, maybe she could have healed him. Such thoughts had caused Sirena leave rather suddenly and without a word.

Sirena hadn’t planned on staying away for as long as she did. Days had turned into months, and then years. Strengthening her abilities was her goal, but in reality, she needed the time to find herself. The little getaway was mostly spent alone, something Rena was never fond of. In fact, being alone had put her in harm’s way on multiple occasions. Being able to rely on herself was something she learned quickly. Never was she the strongest fighter, but Sirena had up for it with her speed, nimbleness, and smarts.

However, running away from her problems forever wasn’t like her. It’d taken four years, but she returned back to her place in the Pacific. Though her disappearing act wasn’t appreciated, many were happy to see Sirena was unharmed. Returning to her position before was difficult though, but it was something she’d now wholly devoted herself into. A wish her father would have wanted, and one she would certainly fulfill. Nearly three decades passed as Rena slowly worked her way up. However, when the current Triton passed Sirena never anticipated that she’d become the next Eon. Potential. That’s what the new Triton lanessa had said. With time and a little molding, the selkie could become something impressive.

In the beginning, lanessa had been a good Triton. Sirena would have even considered the woman her friend. Each benefited and learned from the other, and did well to balance each other out. Rena’s more compassion and compromising traits helped to level out lanessa’s more assertive and aggressive nature. The Triton was never fond of the surface dwellers and the pollution they caused. Perhaps due to Sirena’s actions, the Triton hadn’t acted against them yet. Though after nearly a century passed, lanessa found humans becoming more intolerable with their actions. Every decade the pollution got worse, and the Triton’s hatred grew. After a while Sirena could only watch as things went out of control, though she tried her best to contain lanessa’s wrath. When the Eon had caught wind of the Triton’s plan to attack the surface dwellers, Sirena immediately spoke against it. Eradicating a whole species was an outrageous way to solve the problem. Yes, they were at fault, but killing them all? Ridiculous.

The current Triton was no idiot though. She knew how to get her way, and Rena quickly found out that lanessa wasn’t above blackmail. The woman threatened to hurt the last of her family. It was a miracle that Achromatia hadn’t got Sirena’s mother yet, and her cousin wouldn’t be dragged into it too. Using them kept the Eon in check. In fear of the Triton taking the last of her kin, Rena watched powerlessly as the Triton tortured, blackmailed, manipulated, and brain-washed the Shoal into doing her wishes. A fact that dung into Sirena’s very core as she should have tried harder to prevent it.

When a little fishy told Sirena of a secret army forming to fight against lanessa, she opted to keep the info to herself. Tertis’ plan had been set in motion, and now it was time to do her part as well. She kept her Triton focused, and unaware as Tertis alerted the other Ocean’s Tritons. Sirena had stayed behind when lanessa began her attack on the surface. However, when Tertis and his armies arrived, the Eon finally left the water. Sirena searched for a particular demon, a specialized in the art of teleportation, in an attempt to bring the fight to lanessa. At this point, they needed all the help they could get. Sirena had stepped onto the battlefield calm and collected as she stared down the corrupt Triton. It was time to end everything now.

The battle was tough. Many were injured, and many died. lanessa hadn’t gone down without a fight, but everyone had fought valiantly to stop her. Now it was just up to Sirena to clean up the mess left behind as the new Triton. The woman had managed to placate fears and explain the situation best she could. Rena even going so far so to heal those closest to her. The battle had been won, but in turn, another had begun. Restoring their kinds’ image was the next fight to take on, and Rena’s top priority. With her new Eon, Tertis, at her side, Sirena strives for peace although the journey ahead is still long. Hiding from the world now was no longer an option.

Sirena & Auz:

Meeting on the San Fran’ beach amidst her royal guard, the two walked and talked, eventually sharing a very heartwarming and tearful hug and kiss.  Sirena was all apologies, trembling in his arms, her body overcome with thanks and relief at his understanding and adoration for her and her kind, in spite of what the other Triton had just done.  They agreed to meet again soon, and speak of their mutual care for the oceans and peoples of the world.  Soon, she offered her hand in marriage, and their realms were forever united in love and trade.

2020 Update:

She’s been working with Auz and Pele to restore Lemuria; they’re bringing back what sunk, that ocean-spanning lost-continent having finally been purified.  The true Hawaiians and Lemurians can finally be known (and they were/are nothing like what the humans tried to pretend; they are far better).  Every time these three start making love in Inisfree or out there… wonders abound, monsters forever leave their oceans, and the submerged continent of ancient gods and goddesses gets a little closer back to the surface –including the conical stumps down there of more than a hundred World Trees soon to be regrown, their protective shade and immortalizing fruits then forthcoming and abundant.

2022 Update:

They had sensed so undeniably that it was time to unite as soon as they’d met; their marriage at first had been a blood-instinct and political one, as much out of necessity as attraction.  As their first few years of unity completed, however, that blossomed into so much more; the two found they loved very much about each other, their worries due to so much contact with the bizarre invaders (humans) entirely fading over that time.  Today, they are a very warm and happily married couple, and smile into every reunion and kiss with one another, really leaning in.

Sirena maintains a permanent residence in Inisfree’s “The Palms” hotel on the beach of their city’s greatest lake.  She and Auz have made love there many times.  She’s started inviting all the other “Mers” (sea-folk, such as mermaids and cecaelia) up there to get to know her, too; everyone in Inisfree is fully compatible, bonding in every right way, just as their High King knew it was time for… and foresaw.

In the years ahead, she, he, and they will go on many more trips together, starting to ‘christen’ all her favorite places in the vast ocean she now rules and represents, further healing, restoring, and immortalizing them all.

As of the Winter of this year, she has met and started hanging out as girlfriends with Inara, the only other Selkie who has -so far- been found compatible with the Inisfreeans.

Was it her who came ashore and met me on that beach in Oregon at night with her guard-vibing guy?  I think so.  What a princess-handshake…
