This is one of the Colonial (Space) Marines who worked with Auz when he was serving with them aboard a USCMC war-ship patrolling Xeno-troubled areas far beyond the Earth.

Introduction:

Born in 2324, just 10 years after dragons had pushed 99% of the last humans off Earth, Wolfgang’s parents told him the story of their narrow escape; the flying beasts humans had written off as mythological… turned out to be real, after all, and nowhere near extinct or even endangered; individuals and small groups of them seemed to have sprung up everywhere, practically invading. Humanity’s high-tech defenses centuries into the Space Age did next to nothing against them, and few dared attempt a nuclear response, lest they leave nothing safe for the survivors to rebuild on. All starships that delayed up to the deadline –defiantly, lazily, or otherwise– got chased and clawed back down out of the sky. Millions died that week, and the billions who survived never went back; there was no chance of any survivors, and no way for them to help even if there had been.

“Wolf” grew up moving with his family from moon to planet, and station to starship; the first few decades following the forced emigration of humanity from Earth had everyone shifting around a lot those days. Having never known the Earth, he never felt he had something to miss, and never knew how awful its mega-cities had become. His parents, who lived through all that, were just glad to still have their family intact, and glad to be rid of those cities. They supported his decision to enlist in the off-world military forces –in no small part due to how such personnel had helped evacuate, relocate, and continue to protect ones such as them.

Seeing life as the adventure that it was for them, and keeping fit throughout his school years, Wolf was a natural choice for the recruiters. He made it through ‘the pipeline’ of courses to become an elite service member, and was running recon missions off-world within a few years.

Years of Note:

  • 2341: Boot Camp for the United States Colonial Marine Corps; USCMC. (The U.S.A. fragmented in 2013, but its secret Space program kept going, so once human cities were rebuilt in the decades following, the U.S. forces in Space did what they could to help reform the once-powerful nation. Thus, centuries later, even after the U.S.A. had again changed its form and nature in many ways, and even after its now-permanent erasure from the Earth, some organizations still included ‘United States’ in their name –though this would soon be replaced with ‘United Systems’.) Boot Camp was followed by the Basic Reconnaissance Course, then other schools in the recon ‘pipeline’.
  • 2342: promotion to Private First Class, schools in the recon pipeline still in progress
  • 2343: promotion to Lance Corporal, 1st deployment and combat action
  • 2344: promotion to Corporal, then re-enlists, 2nd deployment and more combat
  • 2346: promotion to Sergeant, and eventually gets assigned to duty aboard the same ship “J.B.” is on

Further Details:

He never had many problems with authority figures, and was promoted fairly and steadily during his first enlistment, so loyalty to the chain of command still comes easily for him –which has both pros & cons. Wolf can be described as a hard worker, self-motivator, and seasoned expert in all of the areas a reconnaissance operator is expected to know. The fellow colonial Marine named “J.B.” is a little on the wild-card & loose-cannon side, in Wolf’s opinion, but he follows J.B.’s orders and respects the bold warrior.

When Wolf isn’t training or on missions, he indulges in the bar scenes form time to time, and visits with his family when he can. Not wanting to come off like the inflexible & murderous dragons he’d grown up with stories of, he tries to use physical force as little as possible; he’ll pull the trigger or tackle someone if required, but only when all other tactics fail. On spaceships, this is slightly less the case, as seconds count more out there, and disagreements can much more easily prove fatal, but overall he is very balanced and restrained.

Not involved in ‘black operations’, Wolf is your P-C ‘cream of the crop’ in the modern Space-faring Marine Corps; he goes from spaceship to shore (now ‘planet-side’) and back, waiting on the public chain of command to give his unit their orders. He is an incredible war-fighter, but not ruthless. He follows the rules of engagement and other applicable laws governing military operations across human-occupied Space territories.

Of his few tattoos, only the one of a dragon, located over his heart, reminds him to keep his cool –quite the opposite of what most people would assume its for.

Wolf and J.B. work well together, sometimes meeting up at various spaceship- and planet-side bars. Wolf has no idea J.B. also goes by another name, and is in charge of more than just his group of Marines aboard their latest ship.

2350 Update:

Having parted ways with “J.B.” the year before, his (Auz’s) destined time in that branch of service having wrapped up, Black Op mission completed, Wolf has continued his career as a Colonial Marine.  Over the next decade, he’ll see actions across multiple solar-systems, rising through the enlisted ranks some more.  It is not yet known if he will ever catch up on old times with his former fellow Marine.
