This is another curious occurrence of a pilot named Rain showing up on Auz’s “radar”.  In her 20s during a rising (pun not intended) career, she was chosen as the #1 fighter ace to represent all of her people back in China.  Rain now flies missions even to and around the Moon.

Details:

Born in the ’90s, Rain Lao excelled at mathematics and other subjects that fighter-pilot training “pipelines” require in their recruits.  Joining the People’s Liberation Army Air Force, she was soon rising through its ranks and on track to becoming a Fighter Ace.  Just before The Rapture, she earned the coveted Golden Helmet, making her one of her country’s greatest flight and aerial combat experts of all time.

Being such a well-formed and exemplary person, she was first among those shepherded to the Leviathans facility deep in the northern mountains of her nation.  Both the Inisfreeans and her own government knew she was a priceless citizen critical of keeping safe for the future.  Serving aboard the Leviathan she was assigned to, she was not merely a passenger hoping to survive; she was one of its crew, and tasked with flying scouting sorties once the seas and skies had calmed enough for those flights to be possible.

Seeing her nation’s entire civilization wiped away, as if it had all been just a dream, she was, of course, shocked and emotional.  Powerless to do anything about whatever had done that to her people in the first moments of 2013, she resolved herself to continuing to be the best pilot she could be for the fellow survivors.  When her Leviathan became part of rebuilt Shensi, she was one of the pilots providing security escorts for the land and air convoys of Leviathan components and other supplies.

After more than three years of constant high-tech high-speed 3D-printing-based rebuilding, she found herself with welcome orders to patrol the skies of the new region of the world which rebuilt China now occupied.  Their work on the ground and in the skies continued that way; rapidly, cleverly, and jam-packed with all the innovations they could throw at it, …until they were once again pushing back up/out into Space.  You know the rest; you saw her contributions featured in the movie.

Rain & Auz:

After her heroism in the face of the Harvester’s mega-mothership making landfall, the Inisfreeans again took notice of this stellar Chinese girl.  She was as beautiful as when they’d first spotted her, even more experienced and proven now, and had worked very professionally with people from all other parts and walks of life; she was just the kind of young lady they were always looking for.  Meeting her in free airspace just outside that of her rebuilt country, their technopathy and “bombshell” looks did the rest; she was soon on her way to Inisfree and Auz.

2022 Update:

Her friendship and romance with Auz is progressing as expected; the two are fond of each other, and keep hanging out and sleeping over whenever they both have time.

Rain has begun practicing some of her fighter-pilot skills via his Military Aerospaceport; she takes to the skies in Inisfree’s airspace during her visits to that realm which last longer than a day or two.

She has also started joining Auz’s other Rain for romantic polyamorous threesomes every now and then.

2300 Update:

She was one of his wives who asked him for permission to tag along when part of his fleet went out to Harvester Space far across the Milky Way.  Naturally, the two of them always in love and respect since their wedding in 2026, he agreed and made her place on his ship a very comfortable –and sometimes ‘steamy’– one.  Rain got to witness how smoothly he and his kind negotiated a permanent arrangement with the species which had once almost kicked hers completely aside –and he even let her borrow one of his Inisfreean fighter-jets to fly around over some Harvester cities once his effect had pacified those creatures enough that they wouldn’t try to shoot her down.

Rain couldn’t believe how awesome this was, nor how wonderful her husband kept being to her.  She ‘thanked’ him in that fighter-jet he’d let her borrow –the very moment she returned, re-docking in its hangar bay inside the ship he’d flown with her out there in.  This lasted for many hours, leaving their perspiration, condensation, and handprints all over its round transparent-metal window-hatch/canopy.
