Mountain Slope Clearing – Austin Bunton Designs

This is one of the most popular places in all of Inisfree to picnic under fireworks, auroras, two moons, and the soft, warm breath of an Inisfreean lover, along with the soft, warm wind of the Inisfreean atmosphere.

Introduction:

Most mountains in the Outlands do not have naturally-occurring clearings which look like well-groomed lawns. Such rarities make for phenomenal observation areas, though, and so it is that Inisfree has made sure to include them in its terrain and landscaping design. The largest of these is located between the Neighborhoods (Apartments) Slope and Statue Park, and it is on this clearing that the largest Inisfreean picnics and orgies underneath the starry skies, auroras, Inisfreean moon, pink midnights, and airshows launched from the Civilian Aerospaceport by their groups of outdoor love-makers occur.

Dimensions & Layout:

This clearing is roughly half a mile by half a mile; 6,969,600 square feet; 160 acres with nothing taller than little blades of soft green grass. The clearing’s highest side is 1.5 miles above the base of the mountain it is on, and half a mile below the Avalanche Wall and Snowdunes region. Its lowest side is half a mile lower than its highest; one mile above the base of its mountain. The overall slope is about 60 degrees; just right for sitting down on or lying at an incline. In the middle corner of the tree-line bordering its highest side, one of Inisfree’s signature gyms is perched with a sweeping view overlooking it all.

Special Features:

The tree-line which almost completely encloses this clearing blocks nearly 100% of the views of the structures within the first few miles, along with any ambient light they might be generating. Looking down and out from this clearing, one can see some of the Flower Towers and Welcoming Square, as well as a one-mile section of the Perimeter Wall; where its main guest gate is.

Popular Days to Come Here:

The weather is often sunny and mild all across Inisfree, even though the city is situated very close to Earth‘s south pole. You can expect it to be slightly breezy and in the 60s (°F; ~15.6 to 20.6 °C). Because of that, and of course because of the amazing views out across miles of the Inisfreean landscape in a wide field of view afforded by this location’s slope and altitude above ground-level, anytime there is a welcoming ceremony, homecoming, airshow, fireworks display, or even a distant street race on one of the highway sections a mile or more away and below, people flock here by the hundreds, if not thousands, bringing their picnic blankets and kajirae almost every time –especially on the one day each year in this realm that is a holiday reserved just for having picnics just because.

Hiking here on New Year’s Eve night to sit and watch the ‘Awesome Blossom’ rise up over downtown Inisfree (our version of the Outland humans’ Times Square ball-drop ceremony) is also very popular.

Exiting a different side (tree-line) of that greenbelt, the two of them then walked out upon the city’s most spacious mountain-slope clearing. A sloped meadow half a mile across, and more than a mile above Inisfree’s ground-level far away and below, was blanketed in a naturally-short, soft, light-green, lawn-like grass. It was easy to walk on it barefoot, and felt very pleasurable.

It was possible this was another naturally-occurring mana-spring spot, as the others spread out across it were quite relaxed and happy. Some of them were resting on picnic blankets together. A few were dancing and spinning about, giving spin-hugs from time to time. They were basking in a very positive atmosphere.

A full third of Inisfree was in view from up there, and the breeze was fantastic. They could see everywhere they’d been on the tour so far, except Waterfall City and the Shire, which were both a little out of sight, just around the right-side tree-line. Even the top of the towering perimeter wall was barely in view –if they walked up to the top of the clearing they were in.

Auz told her of the large gatherings of residents and guests here during their first few fireworks and airshows. They had been inspired, in part, by those on a similar slope and clearing in Portland, Oregon. He’d always been happy about how that experience had shown him this own clearing taking shape and finally manifesting.
