PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT
Pepper is a firecracker. She knows how to dish it as much as she knows how to take it. Pepper has worked for the snarkiest man in the universe for years and therefore has formed a very thick skin and a strong personality. She has the patience of a saint and the tolerance of one too. If she didn’t she would have left her job long before she became the CEO of Stark Industries. She is funny, sarcastic and genuinely kind. She is probably one of the kindest people in her surprisingly small world. She cares for those that she loves and cares for unconditionally. As far as she is concerned no matter what they do they are not worth abandoning. Even if she sometimes needs a break from the more ostentatious of her loved ones she will never turn her back on them when they need her most. She is the kind of person that when she says she will be there she will be there no matter what. She would give her life for the people that matter most and the people that can’t protect themselves.

Pepper’s feelings span past just the ones she cares about and fall to everyone in that she is always thinking for those around her before herself. It is a rare thing to see Pepper be selfish. She is passive by nature despite the people that she has been around for all of her life. Pepper understands the power of words. She believes that almost anything can be solved peacefully. She however is also smart enough to know that not everyone is willing to listen to words and not everyone wants to stop things peacefully. Pepper however will always try and find amenable compromises and creative ways to solve her problems and the problems of those she cares enough to help, which is honestly most people.

On the other side of the coin, Pepper is a worrier. She has a tendency to not only see the good but see the bad. She lives her life with a little bit of fear and a voice in the back of her head waiting for something to happen. Waiting for that shoe to drop and something horrible to come bursting through. The last one was the events with Killian and the next she has no idea what. She may be more than just your average human but she knows what is important to her and she can’t she living her life without any of it. She is afraid every day that everything she cares about and needs to survive will be torn away from her at a moment’s notice. She will lose the hand full of people she calls more than just friend and they will be gone forever. That is her greatest fear and the reason she does everything in her power to make sure it doesn’t happen. The things she does are dictated by that fear and her reactions to the things that happen around her are as well. She hold her breath every time the Avengers leave or SHIELD goes out to fight or Rhodey and Happy do their jobs. The men in her life all have dangerous jobs and she prays every day that they will get to go home.

ABILITIES/SKILLS

• Expert Businesswoman: Pepper has a Masters in Business Administration and has always had a mind for business. She takes to it like a fish to water. She understands the ins and outs of the industry and knows what she needs to do to get Stark Industries to the forefront even if that is just stepping back and letting the work speak for itself. Under her watchful eye the company has only grown and continues to grow under its new umbrella of bettering the world through science. And she can do all of this while being kind and looking fantastic.

• Patience: Pepper has more patience then most. She was able to put up with Tony Stark for years without quitting. She has been able to deal with the troubles that comes from running a company that has Tony as a face with grace and without losing her cool. This skill just feeds into her ability as a business woman. It has also gained her a great deal of respect from the people around her. Keeping your head even in the toughest of situations isn’t always easy but Pepper seems to manage it with grace and ease.

• Intelligence: Pepper has an intelligence that allows her to go toe to toe with Tony Stark. She has a quick wit and is capable of thinking on her feet. She has been able to anticipate need before it appears for years. She had a great capacity for problem solving and has no trouble finding solutions for the things that arise around her. She is also very good with words. She speaks with eloquence and professionalism in all things. Even if you wanted to think little of her for the people she associates with, but it can be hard if you actually meet her. Her intelligence and demeanor are, in large part, the root to her success and the respect that she has gained from it.

• Organization: Pepper is organized to a fault, if there was such a thing. She believes that everything has a place in the world and everything should be in its place. This helps her keep things in order and deal with the rather sporadic nature of her boss.

• Stubborn/Tenacious: Pepper doesn’t give up on things or people. She sticks in it for the long hall when she believes in something or someone. She is the kind of person that sticks to their guns. This comes out the most when in business pursuits and when helping someone. She cares a great deal for people and will never give up on someone she cares about.

• Grace and Poise: Pepper knows how to carry herself. She knows just how to dress for every occasion and the right things to say. She is the kind of woman you meet and wonder how the hell she does it. The truth is years of experience and planning. 20 years ago Pepper didn’t know how to talk to billionaires and businessmen beyond what she was taught in school. Now she has learned the techniques that help her come off in that way she is famous for.

• Planner: Pepper is a pro at coming up with a plan and knowing just what to say. Before she goes into any meeting she knows everything she needs to about everyone in the room. It was a skill that was indispensable to her as a personal assistant and is even further so as a company president.

• Leadership: Pepper is very good at being in charge. She uses all her skills to be a good and gracious leader in the business world and a real example to everyone below her.

• Multilingual: Because of her work as Tony Stark Assistant and with Stark Industries Pepper has learned how to speak a number of languages fluently. Other than her native English she speaks Japanese, French, Spanish, and Italian. All of which she learned for various business ventures.

• Technical Knowledge: Pepper has worked beside a man with expert skills in this area and has picked up things over the years. She can navigate simple computers and tech easily and has even shown skill in being able to hack simple computers. She doesn’t at all pretend that she is as good as an expert at these things and will never admit she can do them because she has no confidence in her skills. She can also identify a good amount of tech and easily understand how things work from experience. She is intelligent enough to catch on for those that she has no experience with well enough that she could follow along. Pepper however does not pretend she is an expert in any of it and still needs her hand held on occasion.

HISTORICAL DATA

• Virginia Ann Potts was born on May 7th 1975 to Robert and Mary Potts. She grew up in Arlington Virginia, but was named after her great grandmother not the state she lived in. Mary was a housewife and homemaker for most of Pepper’s life. She later went on to doing house staging all across Arlington after Pepper left home. Robert Potts was a three star General working for the Pentagon up until his retirement 5 years ago. Pepper looked up to her father like a hero. He went into work and saved the day as far as she was concerned. He ran a tight ship at home always wanting things spick and span. From a young age Pepper had a sense of organization and order. She was raised that everything has a place. Every object and thought and look fits into some part of her world.

• Pepper led an uneventful life for most of her child years. She lived in a stable happy home with parents that showed the proper amount of care. In her father’s case it was a when he was around. He had a busy job and traveled for weeks out of the year. Pepper was an A student who was active in after school clubs and activities. She played Volleyball and did student government. She was what one would consider the perfect child. Very reminiscent of the Pepper we see today. That was until she was a teenager and a pattern of behavior started.

• Christopher Black was a senior the same year Pepper was a junior in high school. She was smitten with him from the moment she saw him from across the room in her Calculus class. He had floppy hair and a bad reputation. It was the first time Pepper would fall for the wrong man. It was a classic case of a good girl loves a bad boy. Pepper was reasonably popular. She was the nice smart girl in the popular click. Chris was not part of that social hierarchy but Pepper was determined to get a date with Chris. She pulled out all the stops working her magic and using every trick she had in her book to get Chris to ask her out. Pepper had dated before and been asked out many times. This was all a bit old hat for her, though Chris was not the same as the others and required a bit more effort. After 4 months he finally asked her out and she turned him down, twice. She wanted him to think it was his idea and it worked. They dated until he graduated. Their relationship ended the following summer..

• After her first real relationship Pepper was determined and swore off men. She didn’t’ date again in high school.

• Pepper graduated as Valedictorian and went onto study Business and Finance at Northeastern in Boston. She went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude and go to Harvard for Grad School. At 23 she graduated Magna Cum Laude with her MBA.

• After Grad School, Pepper got a job working with Aldrich Killian. She was a low level assistant in the small startup and had taken the job for the opportunity it presented. She was the entirety of their finance department which meant long hours and very hard work. Pepper was good at it but it was rather stressful. During her time here Aldrich asked Pepper out just about every day of the year she worked there. She turned him down constantly rather put off by his awkward personality and nerdy disposition.

• After a year of never-ending stress, Pepper moved on to a job working for the Finance department of Stark Industries in New York City. This was the job she wanted and was a giant step up from her job working at the start-up in Boston.

• After only 3 months on the job, Pepper was going through the finances for months’ end and found an error made by none other than Tony Stark himself that if not addressed could cost the company millions. She tried to bring it to her boss but no one would believe that the genius Mr. Stark could have made such an error. Every one of them just brushed her off and told her that it must have been on purpose. Pepper didn’t really like this answer so she did the only logical thing. She waited until he was in the office and then marched herself upstairs and demanded to see Mr. Stark. She stated exactly the problem and got turned away at the door as if she was some common fan girl. They did exist within the company, after all; there was a number of them in her department.

She didn’t listen and just kept ranting about how she needed to see him. It went so far and she ranted so loud that the security guard at the door called security to cart her away. Pepper, however was never one to give up; she reached into her bag and pulled out a can of pepper spray that she immediately used on the two large men trying to carry her away before she ran for it and pushed her way through the large wood doors of Tony Stark’s office. Pepper found Tony and Happy, his personal guard, sitting enjoying what she could only assume was alcohol at 11 in the morning. She was then scolded for pepper spraying the security guards and commended for finding the mistake.

Pepper had spent half an hour fighting to get into the office to only spend about 5 minutes in the presence of her boss. He wasn’t exactly what she expected but she in truth hadn’t really been sure what to expect, either. She had a feeling the stories she heard in the news and the tales around the office couldn’t all be true. Looking him up and down, she could tell why so many women in the company wanted to sleep with him or had some kind of crush on him. She, however, wasn’t super impressed; he was just a man like any other. Sure, he was rich and handsome and a genius, but he was still a man.

• Over the next few days Pepper was more than a little on edge. So, when she was called to his office early Monday morning she was sure she was going to be fired, but she had no regrets. Little did she know she would actually get a promotion and a nickname. Pepper was called such because of her use of pepper spray and was raised to the position of Tony Stark’s Personal Secretary.

• In 2009, Tony was lost in Afghanistan, this was the first time that Pepper thought he was dead. Pepper had always thought of Tony as her boss because he was but the thought of him being gone forever seemed to bring up feelings she didn’t know she had. She truly started to understand just how much she had come to care for Tony. It was a hard couple months working directly with Obadiah and hoping for any information that could be found about Tony’s location. During this time, she would check in with Rhodey, Tony’s best friend, regularly to see how the search was going. It was he who called her when they pulled Tony out of the desert. She felt an overwhelming feeling of relief and happiness. Tony was alive and everything was going to go back to normal and she could keep living her life as the famous Pepper Potts, assistant to Tony Stark.

• On the day of his return Pepper met Tony at the airport. The two were supposed to go to the hospital so Tony could get a proper check from a doctor, but Tony was eager to address the press. He no longer wanted to make weapons. Though Pepper was surprised there was more to it than that. She was proud of him. He had made a choice to set his own path and take this company in a new direction for a new generation. It was stupid and brilliant at the same time.

• While Pepper tried her best to rebound and help Tony achieve his new vision doing her work as diligently as possible Tony was attempting to create something that would change both their lives. It was true that she had walked in on him doing all kinds of things that she could have lived without. Pepper had seen more of Tony then she had ever wanted to admit to anyone. But this was madness. This was madness on a great scale. He, a regular person, was going to go play some kind of superhero called Iron Man and save the world. He was crazy. And from his madness he just fed a monster.

• It turned out that Obadiah Stane was the very man that had tried to use the Ten Rings to kill Tony. He just wanted the money and power that came with being in charge of Stark Industries. Tony was in the way of that. He couldn’t risk Tony finding out what he had been doing and who SI’s weapons had been really going to. Pepper had aided Tony in getting all of this information off of the company computers. She had been terrified when Obadiah walked in on her. She couldn’t’ have gotten out of that room faster if she tried. Conveniently for her there was an Agent Phil Coulson waiting for her in the lobby.

• Pepper had everything she needed to get Phil to arrest the older man and put this all to bed. Obadiah however wasn’t going to go quietly into the night. He, as Iron Monger, and Tony got into a dog fight during which Pepper was met with a difficult choice. She could either let him kill Tony or overload the reactor potentially killing both he and Tony in the process. In the end she had chosen the hard choice. She may have to say goodbye to Tony again but Obadiah needed to be stopped. She pressed the button overloading the reactor and ending it all.

• During the press conference that followed and was supposed to explain his fight with Iron Monger, Tony outed himself as Iron Man to the world. From that day forward, the more he became Iron Man the less he was Tony Stark CEO. Slowly but surely Pepper started practically running the company while going to him for every little decision she didn’t have the authority to make. Tony became more and more erratic and she became more and more stressed. Until one day he looked right at her and made her CEO. She wasn’t really sure of the reason but took it with grace. This was a role she was born to play. She had already been doing all the work without any of the real power. This gave her what she needed to do the job right and well  –though this also gave Tony the license to become even more reckless. Tony did stupid thing after stupid thing, pushing Pepper farther and farther away from him. She did care for him but that wasn’t’ enough anymore. If he was going to kill himself she wasn’t going to stand by and watch.

• Pepper began separating herself from Tony, leaving him to self-destruct on his own. She had no idea that all the while he was slowly dying of palladium poisoning. She wouldn’t find out until they were in the thick of an attack orchestrated by one Anton Vanko and funded by Justin Hammer. He saved her life this time and as they stood on a rooftop overlooking what could only be called the battleground she quit her job saying this was too much stress. That however didn’t last long. The two shared an intimate moment and redefined their relationship forever.

• Pepper returned to her position as CEO and the expo was rebuilt and continued a few weeks later. With that under their belts, Pepper and Tony started on a new project, Stark Tower. It had been neglected in New York City for years. The pair went to work on making it a beacon for the new Stark Industries. The first location of many that would be completely self-sustaining with green energy from an Arc Reactor like the one that had been in California. Their celebration upon its completion was however short lived when Phil showed up. He and Pepper had become friends since their meeting years earlier. Phil had come to take Tony away on orders of Nick Fury. They were assembling the Avengers for the first time to stop Loki.

• Pepper returned to her work with no knowledge of to the extent of the problem Phil had called her boyfriend for. She would later find herself on a plane heading towards Washington watching the events unfold in Battle of New York. By then all she could do was watch in terror as the man she knew she actually loved flew into an open wormhole as it was closing. Pepper wishes to this day that she had noticed her phone when he called but it had been one of the most terrifying moments of her life. As she watched him fall out of the sky she didn’t breath. She had thought he was dead. That he was gone and the last thing she was ever going to say to him was a lude comment whispered in his ear.

• As it turned out Iron Man had saved the world that day. Pepper swore to herself to be there for him as much as she could. She moved in, they got more serious and life went on. Pepper tried her best to keep Tony distracted and happy with regular date nights and consistent attention and affection. He however wasn’t the same after New York. He threw himself into his work. It was frustrating for her but she ventured on all the same.

• Pepper continued to run the company during all of this. She went from being almost a joke of a choice to one of the most well respected women in business. This is why Aldrich Killian came to her for help with Extremis. She wanted to help the man, knowing him from years prior, but what he wanted was just too dangerous. Tony wanted nothing to do with weapons and she respected that wish. She turned Aldrich away adding more fuel to the madman’s fire.

• Happy was hurt in an explosion that made Tony do something he shouldn’t have. He gave their address out to the press threatening the Mandarin, a terrorist who was believed to be the cause of the explosion that hurt Happy. The man listened to the call from Stark and shot missiles at their Malibu home. Pepper was saved by Tony and the armor she was beginning to reset him for. He used the Mark XLII to protect her from the force of the explosion. Once she was free from the structure he took the suit back and attempted to stop the threat. He was pulled down under water and didn’t’ seem to come out. This was the third time that she thought he was dead.

• Pepper spent hours thinking Tony was dead and hoping that he had somehow once again escaped. Thankfully, he reached out telling her he was okay. He told her he couldn’t’ come back till he had dealt with the Mandarin. He couldn’t risk her life anymore. Pepper jumped into action. She knew that Maya had come to them to warn them. She just had to know why. She and Maya left to stay in a hotel where the pair could be safe.

• Unbeknownst to Pepper, Maya was working for Killian who it turns out was the real Mandarin. The pair kidnapped Pepper and injected her with Extremis on the Norco, an oil tanker that had caused an oil spill. Killian had wanted to use Pepper to torture Tony. He wanted her as a trophy to prove that he had bested the man he hated more than anyone. The process of seeing if her body would accept or reject the Extremis was excruciating. She however never lost faith that Tony would come and save her, stopping Killian in the process. Though when Tony did finally show up and attempted her rescue things started to go wrong. As he was trying to reach for her she lost her grip and fell to her death. Or at least it appeared so. The Extremis she had been injected with had given her the ability to heal so quickly that she was able to survive the fall and completely recover in a matter of minutes. She woke up just in time to save Tony from being killed by Killian, killing Killian in the process.

• After the loss of their home Pepper and Tony moved into a hotel until more permanent accommodations could be arranged. Tony was able to find a way to prevent the Extremis from killing Pepper and by what he could tell he removed it entirely from her body. It had, however, completely changed her down to her DNA and it was unclear if that was completely irreversible. Really only time would tell.

• Though after months of nothing it was pretty clear Extremis was gone. Pepper now had only to live with the fact that she had killed Killian. It was fact that she hid with shame and wore as a stain on her life. She hadn’t thought that she would ever be on that side of all of this but she was. She was spiraling herself while still fighting to keep her relationship and Tony together.

• When Tony took it upon himself to create Ultron Pepper was away. Unfortunately she had been at a conference representing the company. If she had been there she would have tried to stop him. She would have tried to do something. Anything. To hold back the mad genius. Instead she got to watch from her hotel room once again as her boyfriend and the man she loved more than anything put himself directly in the line of death hoping to come out alive. She found herself silently praying that day that he would come home. The stress of this was killing her again and again. How much longer could she live like this.

• Luckily once the Avengers were settled on Governors Island Tony came home. He came home once again promising that they would take time. And one again it didn’t last. Months went by and Iron Man was called back to duty. Pepper had to sit on the sidelines like some kind of army wife as he threw himself into his suits and things for the Avengers and Iron Man over and over again.

• In the spring of 2016 Pepper did something she hadn’t expected. Ever since Sarcovia their relationship had been strained. It had been better for a time but she had been angry at him for putting her in the middle of all of this mess he created when he made Ultron. They had blown up and moved past it but something was still off. Pepper wanted more. She wanted him to make time for her instead of taking her for granted and assuming she would always be there. She had done it to herself by always being there, but now she needed Tony instead of the other way around. Pepper’s job had only become more stressful from the backlash of Ultron and she had yet to deal with the fact that 3 years ago she killed a man that still haunted her dreams. Pepper needed Tony to be there for her and he wasn’t. He was too obsessed with himself, the Avengers, and Iron Man to even notice as she fell further and further down the rabbit hole.

• So at the beginning of April Pepper packed a bag and left him. She did it for her and hoped that maybe this would teach him something. She loved him but love wasn’t enough.

• Pepper stayed on as CEO of Stark Industries and when Tony came to her with what had happened to Xavier’s school she jumped right into spear heading helping them. There was plenty of space on Governors Island and she was happy to let them take fill it. Having the school in a safe and remote location was probably the best thing for it. She just had to convince Charles Xavier of that. He responded well to her assistant and he had high hopes for his response to her. What happened however only time would tell.

RP SAMPLE

Pepper typed away at her computer as she did every day. Today however she wasn’t in her office in Stark Tower. She was instead at the Avengers Training Facility on Governors Island. Today she was finally making time to speak to Professor Charles Xavier. He and a few of his fellow mutants had been staying on the island for a couple weeks now and Pepper hadn’t yet had the chance to get over to the Island to see him. This was in part because she was busy and in part because she was trying to avoid Tony. Things were still rather strained in that department and Pepper didn’t want to deal with it. See him was harder then she thought it would be and she wasn’t sure she could hold out for much longer if she made it a regular thing.

Pepper let out a sigh as she took another sip of her coffee giving a smile to a random WATCH agent that entered the room. She had to say she didn’t particularly like WATCH. If she was talking to Tony she may have asked him why he put himself back under the government’s thumb but she wasn’t so she had no idea. She could practically read the man’s mind sometimes, but in this she wasn’t sure. Tony had fought to get out from underneath the hand of the government. She remembered a time when he had directly opposed them and she had ended up taking the brunt of it. Sure that had been the start of their relationship, but it didn’t change the amount of stress it had put on her at the time.

As she watched the agent get a cup of coffee and then leave the room Pepper couldn’t help but think of her father. General Potts probably loved this arrangement. He had never liked the idea of independent heroes like Tony Stark and Steve Rodgers. She couldn’t count the amount of times over the 6 years that she and Tony had been together that her father went on a rant about how he wasn’t’ good enough and was going to get himself killed because of his crazy ideas. Pepper had honestly thought about this herself but she was never going to tell her father that. He didn’t like Tony Stark from the first day she worked for him and she didn’t’ think he ever would no matter what happened in their relationship. Robert Potts was always going to hate Tony Stark.

Pepper looked over at her phone as it rang on the table next to her. It was James, her assistant. Pepper had to say that James had quickly become one of her favorite people. He was funny and knew exactly what she needed at every turn. He was really impeccable at his job. He was for lack of a better description her version of herself. She wouldn’t have wanted anyone else at her side. ”Pepper Potts.” She said picking up the phone.

“Hello, Miss Potts.” James’ answer was enthusiastic and bright. Pepper loved his happy demeanor. It was refreshing in the world of business. “Have you met up with Professor Xavier yet?”

“Not yet.” she looked at her watch realizing the time. She was going to be late if she didn’t hurry. She had a feeling that James may have called her to make sure she wasn’t. “I am actually getting up to head in that direction now though.” She stood closing her computer and putting it away. She would have just enough time to stow it away in Tony’s office, where he was hopefully not, before running off to meet the Professor in the lobby.

“I figured as much. I saw you were sending emails out still and thought I would check in to see if you wanted me to push back your afternoon or should we reschedule?”

“You are always so on top of it.” Pepper let out an audible sigh as she navigated the halls of the Avengers facility. She was usually so on top of things, but in the past month things had been off. She had been off. It was as if making the steps she had had just proven to throw her even more off kilter in a way she couldn’t afford. She was always so busy and one late meeting could mess up her entire day. “Let me see how the pitch for relocating the school goes. I may forgo the tour of the northern part of the island if needed.”

“Would you like me to alert your 3 o’clock that there may be a last minute change?”

“Yes please. Also can you tell Dr. Fisher to stop emailing me about his budget denial? If Mr. Stark said no, it is a no. I am not going to keep emailing him to tell him that.”

“What would you like me to tell him when he asks why?”

“Tell him his project is costing a great deal more than originally expected and hasn’t produced any results in a year. He has other projects to focus on that have far more potential.”

“You got it. Anything else, Miss Potts?”

“No that will be it for now. Thank you, James.”

“You are very welcome, Miss Potts. See you when you get back to New York.”

Pepper didn’t wait for the click as she hung up the phone as she turned the corner entering Tony’s thankfully empty office. She placed her laptop bag and purse to the right of the door before turning on her heels and heading down to the lobby.

2020 Update:

“Pepper” is also known as “carrottop”, “Auburn Bunny”, and “Gy-na” (short for both her first name, and for the word “vagina”) by Auz, and the two are often snuggled up naked together on her penthouse couch, bed, or balcony loveseat to watch the stars (and moons and aurora) in the aftermath of their Inisfree-style casual-business meetings.  Sometimes the sexiest employees of her inherited/earned company, Stark Industries, also join them there, but those other ‘office bunnies’ typically only meet with them in her Sotu office-building.  All of them have christened many Sotu hover-shuttles together as they travel in between.

Since “The Avengers” don’t usually have attractive female members, it is Pepper who represents them when she is in Inisfree.  Because of her, the Inisfreeans afford those Outlander/outsider heroes a greater degree of respect and protection.  From her, the members of that team occasionally hear glimpses about the sacred polar city which shares their calling to protect the entire world.

Outside Inisfree, Pepper spends most of her time working or with Tony, whom she still and always deeply loves.  They are starting a family together.  Their daughter is likely to become another super-genius like Valeria Richards.

2022:

Pepper has been visiting Inisfree now for four years, and has been happily married to its High King for two.  She loves her residence in his city, and keeps re-‘christening’ it with him every time they get to be together.  During a few of these ‘dates’, she and he have discussed what the first few episodes of one of his planned TV shows will be like; they and a handful of other successful reputable business executives will be starting their own version of Shark Tank.

20 September (11 Harvest on Inisfree’s calendar) is our Businesswomen Day; Pepper loves getting together with Auz and her fellow businesswomen in Inisfree for lots of celebratory love this holiday.
